Conway: Disappearance At Dahlia View Review

Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View, by devs White Paper Games, is a dark detective thriller.  Set in 1950's England you play as retired detective Robert Conway.  The game is available now on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch. Conway: A Spectacular Who-Dunnit! I do enjoy a game with an enthralling storyline, let's get sleuthing!  If you enjoy this review check out my others here! Gameplay In a nutshell, Conway is a point-and-click adventure-style game.  As the story begins (and I promise no spoilers), you discover that a crime has happened within the private estate below your flat.  Your character, a wheelchair-bound Robert Conway gets his camera and begins to survey the scene.  Using your mouse you navigate the camera lens around while zooming in and out using the keyboard.  As yo...

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries Review

In a surprise turn of events MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries arrived onto PS5. This was the first time the series had been on PlayStation consoles since MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. For those of us old enough to remember that was on the original Playstation back in 1995.  Craig reviewed the PC version back in 2019 where he awarded it the Thumb Culture GOLD award.  To see his review click here. Mechwarrior 5: "Systems Are Critical" Sadly there was a rough first impression that gave me cause for concern when I sat down to experience Mercenaries and all of the available DLC packs. Several crashes caused me to uninstall and reinstall. It is worth noting here that this was after the game had officially launched. Hardly the start to the series that I was looking forward to.  My game-breaki...

Demolish & Build VR Review

Demolish, construct and grow your business! Developed and published by UltimateVR. You are thrown into the world of a construction simulator. Welcome to Demolish & Build VR Is it the foundations of something great or simply still half-built? Why not check out our previous review of Demolish & Build from the 2020 console edition here. Gameplay Following in the same footpath as the original PC and console versions we start at the Casino. The opening scenes are some communications between us and the oddly scripted "Boss" figure who seems to have the same amount of business knowledge as I actually do. We are given our first tasks and somewhat left to our own to get on with them. It starts simple enough, pull out wires and discard some stools in the skip. After completing this w...

Far Cry 6 Review

By now you've seen the comments on social media. "If you've played one Far Cry game, you've played them all". "It's just the same game in a different location, sometimes with the same topography". "It's just Assassin's Creed but with a different skin". But do you know why Far Cry 6 is going to do so well? Because it is a winning formula. Much like Grand Theft Auto and The Elder Scrolls series, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Far Cry 6 - "Rule #1 - A Good Guerrilla is a Hidden Guerrilla" Far Cry 6 is an ahem...far cry (I'm sorry) from its first game released in 2004 which was developed by Crytek who is more known for the Crysis series. Look out for the Crysis Trilogy Remastered review coming soon. The first game is the only one Ubisoft had nothing to do with. In total there have been six...

Youtubers Life 2 Review

Youtubers Life 2 is a single-player life simulator from Spanish developer U-Play Online & Raiser Games. U-Play also made 2017's Youtubers Life and also brought us Esports Life Tycoon. After character creation, the game starts with an invitation to live in the fictional NewTube City. Home to a community of YouTubers, you choose which type of content you want to create and record your way to the top. Youtubers Life 2 is similar to the original game and the world expands outside the character's home. I and my drone companion could take photos and film vlogs outside too. There are also quite a few pop culture references and some tongue-in-cheek humour to be found. Interacting with the other residents of NewTube City is a major part of the game. I even ended up meeting real-life YouTuber...

Diablo II Resurrected Review

If you were playing any looter game in the early 2000s, it was probably Diablo II. This game, back in the day, was considered a masterpiece and now it has a fresh coat of paint, and boy does it look good! I was studying in music college at the time and discovering new and old metal bands. These bands were my soundtrack to Diablo II, and they still are for Diablo II Resurrected. Many of my acquaintances had sunk thousands of hours into this genre-defining game, right up until the release of Diablo III. Diablo II Resurrected - "Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" As you probably know, Diablo II Resurrected is a role-playing ARPG developed and published by Blizzard. Vicarious Visions also had a hand in its development regarding the 3D implementation. Its original iteration was released in ...

Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition Review

Welcome to my review of the Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition PlayStation 4 version, played on the PlayStation 5. This game is brought to us by developers Snapshot Games (Chaos Reborn) and publishers Prime Matter (Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Kings Bounty II). Snapshot games is founded by Julian Gollop, who is known for being the creator of the legendary series of X-COM games, and David Kaye who is known for being a co-founder of Iron Realms Entertainment (Lusternia, Aetolia). Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition is a turn-based strategy RPG game. Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition Proves It's Not All About X-COM So with two big hitters in the gaming industry behind Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition, can it hit as hard as some of the X-COM games have done in the past? Continue reading to find out. You...

Broken Blades Review

Broken Blades is the debut game from developer Pirates Game Studio and is published by Golden Eggs Studios & West Wind Games. It is a 2D rogue-like platformer set in a fantasy dungeon full of various creatures and monsters. After the tutorial, I learned the game doesn't waste time. Right away I was in control of the protagonist in a world deep underground but with no understanding of who I am and how I got there. Fighting various monsters along the way as well as dodging the various traps, I only know hopefully there is a way out. Broken Blades - The Sword Is Definitely A Fixer-Upper From my first-hand experience and the general opinion of other players, Broken Blades is very difficult so bear that in mind. You can pick the game up on PC where it is available now. Platformers aren't ...

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan Review

Rainbow Billy is a colourful, wholesome, fun-packed game developed by ManaVoid Entertainment. It was originally a Kickstarter project back in May 2018 but has since won Ubisoft Indie Series Grand Prize and received funding from the Canada Media Fund. Looking back at the Kickstarter after having played the game it's easy to see where the extra time and funding have been used to improve the initial showing. The World of Imagination has fallen under a curse, cast by the monochromatic, evil Leviathan. The Leviathan is determined to make Billy and the rest of the world abandon their hopes and joys in favour of accepting a bleak reality. It's up to Billy, and their friends, to travel around the world, cheer everyone up and restore the colour. Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan - In A ...

Xuan Yuan Sword 7 Review

Developed by DOMO Studios, SOFTSTAR, DOMO Production, and published by Yooreka Studio and EastSoftAsia. Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is an action roleplaying game that is rooted deep in Chinese history and mythology. Xuan Yuan Sword 7 - Sun Tzu Would Be Proud The fact that the Xuan Yuan Sword series has been around for 30 years and I've never heard of it has blown my mind. With this instalment being the first one to hit the west. I'm sure there will be many more fans of the franchise because it just seemed to be overshadowed by other RPG juggernauts like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Maybe it's time for this game to step out of the shadows. As usual, if y0u enjoyed this review then you can check out my latest one here. You can also check out what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to on...
