LEGO Pokemon Brings The Fight

LEGO has recently been announcing new sets like crazy. With some of those sets being more exciting than others. One of the IP's in that is Pokémon. With the LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set, as well as LEGO Eevee, we have seen an exciting shift in LEGO's favour. The real question, though, is just how good are these sets? Thankfully, LEGO sent us a couple of sets for us to build, and wow, we were impressed. Who's That Pokemon? The third set of the Pokemon drop is a monster, with the final evolutions of the Kanto starters costing you near £700. That is, if you can find it! Pikachu and Poke Ball #72152 Weighing in at 2050 pieces, priced at £179.99, this set depicts Pikachu being launched from a Poke Ball on a lightning shaped stand. If you don't fancy having the sizeable stand on your shelv...

New LEGO Star Wars Smart Brick Sets Review

We are massive fans of LEGO over at Thumb Culture, and when it was announced that the new LEGO Smart Brick was coming, we were dubious. We took the plunge and purchase the LEGO Smartbrick Set #75423, Luke's Red Five X-Wing. It came with a Smart Brick, and was an absolute joy to build. Bringing the inner child out of me with it creating sound effects for me, instead of me having to do it. Fast Forward a short period of time, and LEGO were great enough to send us through two other Smart Brick sets. May The Force Be With You They dropped on us the Luke's Landspeeder and AT-ST Attack on Endor sets. Both don't come with a Smart Brick, but they are compatible with them. How were they to build and just what do the new LEGO Smart Bricks bring to your imagination? Let's find out! #75424 - AT...

LEGO Italian Riviera Review

As I look out into another September rainy day I long to be somewhere else. Like a Mediterranean coastline town. Where I could watch life bustle by as I sit in a café admiring the pastel buildings and the turquoise blue of the sea. Unfortunately, I am not lucky enough to be there. Fortunately, I am lucky enough that there is a LEGO set of this exact scene though, the LEGO Italian Riviera. And I got one to review. La vita è bella The LEGO Italian Riviera was a LEGO Ideas set submitted by Fan Designer, Alex Sahli. And it wowed voters along with the committee enough to be made into a fully fledged set, much like the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine! Talking about his design Alex said, “I've always been passionate about travel, and Italy stands out as my favourite destination. Its blen...

LEGO Jango Fett’s Firespray-Class Starship Review

If you're a LEGO and Star Wars fan then you've probably spent some time drooling over the Ultimate Collector Series. It's the pinnacle of detail within the Star Wars LEGO space, but these big collector pieces come with big price tags too. It doesn't stop me staring at them every time I'm in a LEGO store though. Which is as frequently as you may imagine. And so when Thumb Culture got the opportunity to get hands on with the newest addition, the LEGO Star Wars Jango Fett’s Firespray-Class Starship I yelled "Yes" faster than Boba shouted "Dad watch out!". I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe This is not a set for casual builders. At 2970 pieces and priced at £260 on the LEGO website, this is a collection piece. Which you probably guessed by the fact it is part of the ...

LEGO Game Boy Set Revealed

Back in January we broke the news that LEGO had teased a new console set. Now we're back with the full reveal of this LEGO Game Boy set! Playing with Brick Power Before we go into the details of this set, I need you to watch the reveal trailer that LEGO and Nintendo shared. It is rad as hell and full of nostalgia joy. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LEGO (@lego) Nostalgic Nintendo Bricks Now I know what one of your first questions may be. And don't worry this is not an undersized set at all. In fact the LEGO Game Boy is built with a scale of near 1:1. Whilst there are no light, sound or display play functions, this doesn't matter at all. Because this brick-built replica comes with all the features ...

LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine Revealed

The latest LEGO Ideas set has been revealed, and it's none other then the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine set. With a classic retro-inspired vintage style this buildable vending machine is a conversation-starting display piece. The set was submitted by Belgium-based Fan Designer, Rob Vangansewinkel, as part of the LEGO Ideas programme. Talking about his design, Rob said, “As a kid, I had a real vending machine at home and loved it - so the idea of creating a working LEGO brick version that dispenses minifigures just clicked. I started with a digital version of the model and posted it on LEGO Ideas. But I wasn’t sure if the dispensing mechanism would really work, so I spent about two months testing and refining the design with actual LEGO bricks. I even took apart my old vending mach...

LEGO Beauty and The Beast Castle Full Build Review

Once upon a time in a land far away, I wrote a preview of the newly released LEGO Beauty and The Beast Castle set. The time has come for me to share the full build with you all. Let's not wait for the last petal to fall, let's get into this review. Tale As Old As Time This is not a small set, but being a Disney castle would you expect anything less? The 2916 bricks are divided across 21 bags. Whilst the instructions span 2 thick booklets. For those interested in scale, or indeed shelf space requirements, this is smaller then the now retired LEGO Disney Castle 71040 set. In fact you'll spot a nice side by side just below! However, this is still a beast of a build. Fully built the LEGO Beauty and The Beast Castle is 53cm in height, 33cm wide and has a depth of 15cm. So plan shelf spac...
