Wonder Boy: Asha In Monster World Review

The story of Wonder Boy is one that has spanned five decades.  It started life in the arcades just at the latter end of the golden age of arcade video games. Between the years 1986 and 1988, Sega had published three Wonder Boy games which were ported to everything from the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum, to the TurboGrafx-CD. It made the move to home consoles in 1989, starting on the Master System before moving on to the Mega Drive. It would be 22 years before we heard from the boy of wonder again. Fast forward to 2016 and the retro gaming scene is booming! At the turn of the century, gaming tech had advanced hugely, and consoles like the Super Nintendo were just 'uncool' with their primitive and antediluvian graphics. But now that has been turned upside down thanks in part to a huge ...

Frontier Developments has recently introduced an exciting expansion to the game with Odyssey, out now for PlayStation, Xbox and PC. ELITE DANGEROUS: ODYSSEY, JUMP AROUND! The release of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey sparked my interest in the game all over again. I was keen to dive in and explore the vast system of different planets, ecosystems and Starports. All three of these games originally came to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with Ninja Gaiden Σ being a port of Ninja Gaiden from the original Xbox. I had the chance to play this remastered collection on the PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility for the PS4 version of the game. What did I think? Continue reading to find out...

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Review

It's been roughly three years to the day since I first properly played a Mass Effect game, and then Mass Effect Legendary Edition drops into my lap.  Yeah, I was very late to the party with this trilogy. I had tried it before, but action RPGs just weren't really my thing at the time. Fast forward to 2018 and I am a different gamer, a more developed and mature gamer. So when I played it back then, I could have kicked myself for not playing it before. Instead of playing the usual first-person shooters, I could have been playing this space epic! Mass Effect opened my eyes to how truly diverse the RPG genre can be. "Just another routine mission. Why do they always say that before a mission?" For a while, Bioware had been teasing something about Mass Effect all over social media. Fans were le...

Beautiful Desolation Review

Beautiful Desolation is a story-rich, 3rd person, sci-fi adventure. Developed by THE BROTHERHOOD and published on Switch and PS4 by Untold Tales. The game was also self-published by the developers on Steam in Feb 2020. It features point-and-click mechanics, branching conversations, choices, and lots of exploration. The gameplay has a relaxed, slow pace to it, that allows you to really soak into the atmosphere and story. Beautiful Desolation - I bless the game down in Africa When I think of games that focus a lot on the narrative rather than being packed full of action it's things like Telltale games and Life is Strange. What are some of your favourite story-heavy games? Let us know below in the comments! Also, if you do like games that focus a lot on telling a story, you can check out my...

Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards Review

Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards is a role-playing action-adventure game developed by N-Fusion Interactive, Digiart Interactive LLC and published by Digiart Interactive LLC. It was released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 26th. There have been interviews and behind the scenes footage all over the developer's channel. They've even announced a tie-in comic book. That is dedication to your game! "I will do all I can to make sure that when I'm done, all will know my name" I've been playing video games my whole life and I've never once played an action RPG. I've played the regular RPG's like Final Fantasy X and Chrono Trigger, but never an overhead action RPG. It just never seemed like my type of thing. But I was looking forward to giving one a shot. Aluna: Sentinel of...

King Of Seas Review

King of Seas is developed by 3D clouds, and they have brought us a single-player open-world RPG. They previously made car-based games so have leapt to sailing the seven seas. They, alongside Team17, a well-known indie publisher who previously brought us the Overcooked! series and Worms WMD. Following the popularity of games such as Sea of Thieves, the pirate genre is growing. And I believe that King of Seas is only the most recent addition to the genre and is a quality one at that. King of Seas is available now on Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Series X|S, and PS4. If you're still deciding after my review you can find the preview to King of Seas written by Martin here. King of Seas - I'm the captain now! You begin King of Seas as a newly minted captain and playing in a third-pers...

Erica PC Review

Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and originally released as a Playstation 4 exclusive, Erica, an interactive thriller film, is now available on PC. Falling somewhere between a video game and a film, this feels like an evolution of the visual novel genre. I'd say the mechanics are somewhere between Bandersnatch and a Telltale game. Let's dig in and see what Flavourworks have cooked up for us. Erica - You're my butterfly, sugar baby Have you played many full-motion video games? It's probably not many people's favourite genre. What do you think these games could do to boost their profile and appeal? Leave a comment below with your thoughts. Gameplay Erica opens with a scene where she and her father are discussing Erica's mother. Here we learn that her mother and father met ...
