Playing Doom…30 Years Later – A Retrospective Review

Almost 30 years ago, id Software released what is still considered one of the most defining and important games in video game history. I am of course talking about Doom. Doom is an FPS action game developed and published by id Software and was released on December 10th, 1993. The game was originally published with only the first nine levels on MS-DOS but due to its success, the full game was later ported to Windows 95, the Sega 32X, Atari Jaguar, Super Nintendo, and then pretty much every well-known game console you can name. Not to mention ATMs, barcode scanners, and...pregnancy tests. If you played video games in the early '90s and you had a computer, you most definitely played Doom. This game defined a generation and set the standard for FPS shooters. It was one of the most talked...

Evercade Premium Pack Review

It had been 30 years since I last opened a brand new 16-bit system. That system was the Atari 520STE, and I loved it. It arrived in the household a year after the Sega Mega Drive. A lot of the kids at school were talking about a game called The Secret of Monkey Island, which they would be playing on their Amiga 500. I had to play it! Everyone had Amigas, I had the Atari, and to be honest, I was not disappointed. So my heart pumped with nostalgic joy when I was sent the Evercade Premium Pack to review. The Evercade was released in May of 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic. Lots of people were finding video games again and if this release date was part of a late move in the business strategy...Bravo! It's also a risky move considering the Nintendo Switch has a vast library of retro ...

Space Invaders Invincible Collection Releasing Digitally August 17th

Yes, that's right. There is a "new" Space Invaders game releasing in 2021. Well, I say new, it's actually a new collection of Space Invaders games. The Space Invaders Invincible Collection is coming real soon to Nintendo Switch. The collection will launch digitally on August 17th for the aforementioned Nintendo hybrid handheld. Taito and ININ Games are pleased to announce this, and I can understand why. Space Invaders is genuinely a game that holds a special place in a lot of peoples hearts, especially in the hearts of the retro fans among us. The thing about Space Invaders is not the fact it's such a classic franchise. It's the fact that over the years it has made such a name for itself that everyone has heard of it. Gamers or not. Gotta love pop culture. Space Invaders Invincible C...

Wonder Boy: Asha In Monster World Review

The story of Wonder Boy is one that has spanned five decades.  It started life in the arcades just at the latter end of the golden age of arcade video games. Between the years 1986 and 1988, Sega had published three Wonder Boy games which were ported to everything from the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum, to the TurboGrafx-CD. It made the move to home consoles in 1989, starting on the Master System before moving on to the Mega Drive. It would be 22 years before we heard from the boy of wonder again. Fast forward to 2016 and the retro gaming scene is booming! At the turn of the century, gaming tech had advanced hugely, and consoles like the Super Nintendo were just 'uncool' with their primitive and antediluvian graphics. But now that has been turned upside down thanks in part to a huge ...
