Population Zero Preview – Zero Or Hero

A couple of months back, Enplex Games blessed us with some news of a new release. That new release is what we are looking at today, the MMO Survival, Population Zero. Originally released on Steam Early Access reviews started to come thick and fast. This, is to no surprise and survival games are extremely sort after, and decent ones at that. Read on to find out how I get on! Gameplay We all pretty much know by now what an MMO Survival game is going to be like. This includes gameplay and mechanics, they are all near enough the same in some shape or form. Obviously storylines can differ vastly. Keeping it simple, you are stranded on Keplar and alien planet. Your ship was destroyed and you have 7 days (168 hours) until human extinction. Meaning you have to repair the reactor and restart ...

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom – Re-hydrated Review – Fun Sponge

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, originally released way back in 2003, was that rare beast; a licensed title which delivered both in terms of quality and adherence to the source material. The colourful 3D platformer brought over everything which was great about the first three seasons of SpongeBob, including the various exotic undersea locales and the crazy characters which inhabit them. In spite of mixed reviews from the critics, fans were besotted, and it sold so well that it was added to the classic ranges for Gamecube, Xbox and PS2. Publisher THQ Nordic is in the business of fishing up quality properties from yesteryear, and they are now ready to unleash Purple Lamp Studios port (hoho), SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom - Re-hydrated upon the world. Is...

Gloomy Eyes PCVR Review – This Little Gem May Leave You A Little Watery Eyed…

Gloomy Eyes is an immersive narrative VR experience about the sun giving up on mankind and going into hiding; this leads to the world being plunged into darkness with humans and zombies having to co-exist. Gloomy Eyes tells the story of Gloomy and Nena forming a bond and playing out a story in an almost Romeo and Juliet like tragedy. Gloomy Eyes is the debut title from 3DAR in collaboration with Atlas V; it features a unique art style and the voice of Colin Farrell to narrate the tale. Gloomy Eyes has won multiple awards across the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and the SXSW Film Festival; not to mention a plethora of award nominations at various events. Gameplay With Gloomy Eyes being a 3 episode short film, it doesn’t have any gameplay; your only real interaction co...

Those Who Remain Review – Worth Sticking Around For?

When I heard there was a game coming out called Those Who Remain I was concerned that somebody had done the unthinkable and made a game about Brexit. Fortunately that was not the case. Developed by Camel 101 and published by Wired Productions Those Who Remain is the latest entry into the crowded horror/survival game genre. It is described as "an up close psychological horror set in the sleepy town of Dormant. (where you)Confront uncomfortable horrors, keep your sanity in check and survive the night." So is Those Who Remain an exciting, groundbreaking new entry into a crowded genre? Read on and find out. Gameplay Those Who Remain sees you playing as Edward, your stereotypical mentally tortured horror game protagonist. You join him as he sits at his desk contemplating taking his own li...

Railway Empire Review – I Choo Choo Choose You

Toot toot!  For the last few weeks, I have been testing my haulage skills on Gaming Minds Studios and Independent Arts' strategy tycoon game Railway Empire, out on the Nintendo Switch today!  With great memories of Transport Tycoon flooding back to me, how was this railway escapade going to play out, especially without a mouse in sight! Gameplay Set in 1830's United States you enter the playing field at one of the most exciting times in Railway history.  If you want to earn big then you need to think fast, build intuitively and get those trains on the rails before a rival does. On the face of it, a train tycoon sim may not float your boat as it were but I was pleasantly surprised with how energetic the intro scenes were and also how well the tutorials guided you at the very start....

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Review – Definitively Monado

Originally released in June 2010 for the Nintendo Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles is a JRPG developed by Monolith Soft and Monster Games. It didn't sell as well as some other games on the Wii, but the fact that they decided to remaster and re-release it on the Nintendo Switch as Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition should say a lot about its popularity.  I, for one, missed out on Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, so when I saw a remaster coming out I was pretty stoked to get my hands on it. After playing the sequel on Nintendo Switch, I just had to get myself a copy. When I was offered a review code to take a look, I leapt at the opportunity. Strap in, we're about to get into Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Gameplay The story begins with a battle between two Colossal titans called...

Shantae And The Seven Sirens Review – Shantae, You Stay

Don’t you just love it when a game packs a surprisingly fun punch? Personally, I’m always a big fan of getting my preconceived notions smashed to bits, and suffice it to say that WayForward’s Shantae And The Seven Sirens has done exactly that. As a complete newcomer to the Shantae series, I had no idea what to expect. In fact, the opening titles of this instalment left me wondering if I’d accidentally stumbled into an actual anime cartoon at first. However, on jumping into my first playthrough, I found myself more than pleasantly surprised at this single-player platformer’s box of tricks (with a few caveats, but more on that later). Time to release this Half-Genie from the bottle and discover what makes Shantae And The Seven Sirens a refreshingly enjoyable game. Gameplay Shantae ...

Cranked Up Early Access Review – Rolling Around

BBlack Studios bring us Cranked Up, the mesmerising adventure of a doughnut trying to get dunked into coffee. If that isn't enough to sell a game, then I dunno what is. Actually in hindsight, I don't like coffee, but I'm all over the sugary goodness that is doughnuts. So I decided to pop to the local doughnut shop and stock up for the adventure of a lifetime, and probably gain a pound or two as well. Gameplay I honestly do'nut know where to start with this. Cranked Up has left me in a little bit of a state if I'm honest. I kind of feel like I took a lot of acid before I had sweet cravings and the result may just have been the inspiration for this game. After several hours of phone-based therapy at huge cost I feel like I am now human enough to continue. Fortunately there is a tuto...

Climbros Review – Why Climb The Switch? Because It Is There

It can't be an easy life for my hands. When I'm not giving them blisters from overly long gaming sessions, I'm destroying them at the climbing gym. Thanks to lockdown, I've not been able to hit the walls for a while now. So you can understand my delight when I saw Climbros coming soon to the eShop . An arcade climbing game that will let me run riot on routes in a way I can't in real life? Harness me up! Well, the time is now. Climbros launches on Switch today. Read on to find out if it's worth your time to tie in and crush this route. Gameplay First things first, this isn't a true climbing experience. If you don't know an ATC from a GriGri, or a crimp from a pinch, then don't fear. Climbros will prepare you for climbing as much as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater will prepare you for doing ...

Saints Row: The Third Remastered Review- Saint or Sinner?

Remastered versions of the previous generation's classic games are all the vogue at the moment. Some welcome, some not so. It seems as if developers are holding back the brand new games for the much anticipated new generation of consoles (although the current Covid-19 pandemic has not helped!). The next game hot off the remastered production line is Saints Row: The Third Remastered. Published by Deep Silver and developed by Volition the much-loved game first released in 2011 gets a makeover for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Having played the game the first time around on my PS3 I was keen to revisit Steelport and see if it was still fun to rampage around the city in a crazy costume wielding the legendary Dildo Bat (no that isn't a typo!). Read on to find out how I got on. Gameplay If you...
