The Innsmouth Case Review

The Innsmouth Case is a text-based, choose-your-own-adventure game based on The Shadow over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft. The genre of Interactive Fiction is one of the oldest in video games, stretching back to the 1970s with Adventure. Technological advances mean these types of games are no longer restricted to a text-only experience and are often supplemented with images, animations and music.  Let's dive into Robot Pumpkin Games' horror comedy mystery adventure and see what's going on, shall we? The Innsmouth Case - There Cod Be Something Fishy Inn This Plaice I recently played Arcade Spirits, which is another example of an Interactive Fiction game and was very good. Other recent games include Doki Doki Literature Club+ and Overboard. Have you played any of these or others? Let us know...

Road 96 Review

The world of rogue-like games is ever-expanding and evolving, but I've never seen the concept used quite like this. Road 96 takes procedural generation, unlockable upgrades, and the concept of multiple playthroughs, and adapts them to a narrative-heavy adventure game. It comes from developer Digixart whose previous games were Lost in Harmony and 11-11 Memories Retold. With an authoritarian government in control of the country and the prospects of their future seeming bleaker and bleaker, teenagers are heading to the border in their droves. Can you help any of them make it past the border wall and security into a better country, a better life? While modern American political influences are seen in the game, the narrative was shaped from stories told by staff at 11 Bit Studios in Poland a...

Glitchpunk Early Access Review

Welcome to my review of one of the latest games to hit Steam Early Access, Glitchpunk. It is brought to us by developers Dark Lord and publishers Daedalic Entertainment (Deponia, Unrailed!, State of Mind). The game is a top-down shooter/fighter akin to classics such as GTA 2 on the PlayStation. You play as an android bounty hunter earning a few bucks from doing missions for gangs just to get by. Glitchpunk Takes Me Back To Those Classics Whilst Glitchpunk certainly has a classic top-down vibe to it, can it really keep you entertained long enough to want you coming back for more? Let's find out in my early access review. Check out my previous review here if you like this one. Gameplay Glitchpunk starts us off with a basic choice, which city to start on. This choice is very limited to on...

Seed of Life Review

Seed of Life, developed by MadLight studio and published by Leonardo Interactive, became available for purchase through Steam on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021. Though Wednesday releases aren't common, this game is fairly unique as well. Seed of Life is an action-adventure puzzle game that will have you asking how much it takes to save a planet. MadLight studio, a small indie developer from Spain, sets up Seed of Life to be a visually pleasing and emotional journey. Sometimes the Hardest Puzzles to Solve are the Easiest in Seed of Life Over my thirty-some years of gaming, I can't say puzzle games fall high up in my library. The two main ones that stand out in my mind are Portal and Portal 2. Both felt mostly like puzzle games with a bit of story. However, Seed of Life is much more of a...

Anna’s Quest Review

Almost exactly 6 years later, Anna's Quest has made the jump from PC with a direct port to console. From developer/publisher Daedelic Entertainment we return to this 2.5D point & click puzzle game. Beyond that, it is also a hand-drawn adventure game depicting Anna's journey and adventure. And featuring a melting pot of elements from the world's fairy tales, folklore, and mythology. This Anna's Quest review is based on the Switch version and is also available on PS4 and Xbox One. Alex Kidd In Miracle World DX Review

The story of Alex Kidd goes back all the way to 1986 with his first and most popular appearance on the Sega Master System, otherwise known as the Sega Mark III in Japan. The first game Alex Kidd in Miracle World was such a success for Sega that another 5 games were released with the final one, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World being released in 1990. It's also well known that Alex Kidd in Miracle World was built into some versions of the Master System II. But, as the 8-bit era draws to a close, Sega's mascot had to make way for a certain blue hedgehog. Did Altered Beast predict his death in 1988? I'll let you decide. JAN-KEN-PON! So here we are, 21 years after the release of Alex's last game with Alex Kidd In Miracle World DX, a remake of Alex's first game. Developed by Merge Games (Streets...

It is an action roleplaying sandbox game. It has you building in a fantasy land that is threatened by an evil cult. Can we build on this Dragon Quest Builders 2 review or will we crumble? Dragon Quest Builders 2 - Who Needs Minecraft As somebody who absolutely loves JRPGs. I had a feeling that Dragon Quest Builders 2 was going to be right up my street. I admit I never played the first game but my expectations were high, as all the Dragon Quest games are brilliant. But I never expected it to be a side step from the usual Dragon Quest games that I'm accustomed to. But if you enjoy this review then why not check out my last revie...
