Not Tonight 2 Review

Not Tonight 2 is a narrative-driven document checking game from developer PanicBarn and publisher No More Robots. The game is a sequel to 2018s Not Tonight and was released on the 11th of February on Steam. The trailer immediately piqued my interest with its excellent pixel art mixed with oppressive dystopian themes. Can Eduardo's friends break him out of a Miami detention centre? Find out below in my Not Tonight 2 review. If you're not on the list, you aren't coming in! We start the game during a protest in Seattle. Suddenly a van draws up to the protesters and bundles one of them inside. This poor unfortunate is Eduardo, who ends up all the way across the country in a Miami detention centre. Fortunately, Eduardo has three loyal friends, Malik, Kevin and Mari, who embark on three separa...

Dexter Stardust Review

An enjoyable debut from newcomers Dexter Team and published by Flynn’s Arcade, Dexter Stardust: Adventures in Outer Space is a point-and-click adventure game set in the world of tomorrow and inspired by the greats of yesteryear from LucasArts and Sierra.  Get Ready For Some Familiar Space Adventures! Indie point-and-click adventures have seen a tremendous boost in popularity in recent years, even with those new to the genre. And classic fans have found those elements that give them the adventure fuzzies come back with a bang. Dexter Stardust: Adventures in Outer Space is a love letter to all of those elements: kitschy 4th wall breaks, on-the-nose in-jokes and all. Space exploration is now an everyday occurrence for humanity. But the discovery of ‘Planet X’ or ‘Vrees’, the 10th planet...

Little Orpheus – PS4 Review

For me, gameplay is always king. Being a rare exception to this rule, Little Orpheus is the first game I can think of that flips this train of thought on its head. It surprised me in such a delightful way. "And it happened like this" - Ivan Ivanovich Developed by award-winning Sumo Digital subsidiary The Chinese Room, this title began life as a mobile game. The Brighton-based studio is quickly garnering a reputation for having a penchant for epic storytelling, with previous titles such as Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther. This console &  PC port was handled by the team at Sockmonkey Studios and it launches on Playstation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch on Sept 13th 2022. Played here on PS5 in backward compatibility, the PS4 title has an install size of 6.95GB. ...

Grapple Dog Review

Grapple Dog is a unique 2D action-platformer developed by Medallion Games and published by Super Rare Originals. Released 10th Feb 2022, this appears to be the first title from Medallion Games. It's currently on Steam for £11.99. 2D or not 2D If you've followed my previous reviews on Thumb Culture, you'll notice I tend to go for open world 3D games over 2D platformers. The last platformer I played was a fantastic little game called Hoa. Inspired by this, and armed with a new outlook on 2D platformers, join me as I delve into the world of Grapple Dog. Gameplay "Jump, Swing and Zip your way through colourful worlds and exciting challenges in this unique 2D action-platformer! Master the power of the Grapple on your adventure to save the world!" First of all, the title 'Grapple Dog' tel...

Uncharted: Legacy of Theives – The Lost Legacy Review

Having played the original release of The Lost Legacy (read our review here) when it launched back in August 2017, I was excited when the Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection was announced. I loved the switch to a new, yet familiar lead character. To steal a quote from protagonist Chloe Frazer  - "when people have low expectations, it's much easier to take them by surprise".  A truer word couldn't be said about this cinematic story-driven action-adventure, as it did take me by surprise and stands as one of my favourite games in the Uncharted series to date. Recharted - The Lost Legacy Developed by PlayStation first-party studio Naughty Dog, this remaster collects PS4 titles A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy in one package and brings them natively to the PS5. There's a welcome upgr...

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is the latest instalment in the Atelier franchise. It continues the trend of single-player RPGs in a somewhat open-world akin to late 1700s or early 1800s Europe. It was developed and published by Koei Tecmo who have been part of the series since it began on the PS1 in 1997. I was excited to play the game after having enjoyed the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack. If you are a fan of the series then I have no doubt you will too. And if you are interested, you can read my review here of the original Atelier Mysterious Trilogy here. The Adventure Continues! Atelier Sophie 2 is available on February 25th on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4 & PS5. The TC team and I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on Atelier Sophie 2. So d...

Edge Of Eternity Review

Developed by Midgar Studio and published by Dear Villagers. Edge of Eternity is an action RPG that was released on the PC back in 2021. Then later ported to the Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, Series S/X and another port coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. So lets dive into the Edge of Eternity. Edge Of Eternity Xbox Series X Review There isn't a year that goes by without a quote saying "Is this the new Final Fantasy?" Now with a game franchise like Final Fantasy, it would have to take one hell of a video game to get close to it. But that doesn't stop developers from making excellent RPGs. If you enjoyed this review then why not check out my latest one here. You can also catch up with what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to via our social media channels. Unbound: Worlds Apart Review

There is a narrative these days that "games are too difficult". While there are challenging titles out there, gamers are more blessed than ever with features and resources that help tackle the difficulty. I remember when games didn't have any saves. All you had was your 3 lives and no matter how far you had advanced into a game, once those lives were gone it was truly Game Over. Unbound: Worlds Apart is the ultimate test of your platforming skills. Unbound precision Unbound: Worlds Apart is a challenging precision platformer from Indie studio, Alien Pixel. The Romanian team has grown from 2 people at its inception to now having a core of 8 devs now working on this title.  The game is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC. Paper Dolls 2 Review

Chinese first-person horror adventure Paper Dolls 2 is out now on consoles. Waking up in the aboding Yin Mansion, your goal is to uncover what happened to the famous Yin family. Paper Doll 2 - Twist and Turns Await I enjoy the horror adventure genre and I was hopeful that Paper Dolls 2 on the PS5 by developers Beijing Litchi Culture Media Co would bring some jumps and scares to the year. Gameplay Having made the move from VR in the original, the sequel has aimed for a wider audience. The game starts at the base of a set of stairs, without any explanation or goal. This pushes towards a heavy aspect of the first-person puzzle. Who you are, what are you looking for and how does everything link together? Aside from the dark and mysterious mansion, there is a sprinkling of horror in ...
