The Division 2 PS4 Review – Welcome to DC

The Division 2 is here finally and as you all probably know this is Ubisoft's latest work. So with nothing else to say let's dive straight in shall we? Gameplay The Division 2 is a tactical cover to cover shooter. You can choose to go in all guns blazing..... but why? I'm sure everyone has played the first game which was set in New York with a smallpox epidemic and if not then where have you been? Well anyway The Division 2 is set in Washington DC and smallpox is no longer the issue but instead you now have the green poison. Lovely isn't it? Story-wise this isn't as good as the original Division game. But this is a beautiful game with a really well thought out open-world that begs to be explored. Your choice of weapons vary also depending on how you play the game. In the or...

Attack of the Earthlings PS4 Review – Reverse XCOM

Very rarely does one video-game inspire others with its mechanics. Off the top of my head, I can only think of a handful that has had any lasting effect on the video-game industry. Gears of War popularised the cover-based shooter, Arkham Asylum invented a combat system that is widely used amongst many developers, Dark Souls was groundbreaking when it came to game design and difficulty, and XCOM practically invented a whole new form of strategy in a genre that needed something to shake up the formula. All of these games have inspired smaller developers to take their mechanics and turn into something new. Attack of the Earthlings, developed by Team Junkfish and published by Junkfish Limited, was definitely inspired by the latter. Gameplay You play as an alien race that is going ab...

Crimson Keep PS4 Review- Keep On Dying?

Crimson Keep is a first-person action-packed RPG game created by Merge games. Released for many platforms such as PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox one. With three options of what kind of "survivor/warrior" you are, it will help with how hard your gameplay is and what your starting weapon is. The aim of the game is to find the "sunken remains" so that you can cleanse it and free the trapped people staying alive trying to use any of the items you find. Gameplay Starting at the main menu you are offered a choice in which to start, you can choose to play as either The Berserker, the Witch or the Drifter Which gives you all the same start to the game besides your inventory. For example, your witch is given a wand, Berserker is given an axe and your drifter is just using their fists. I fe...

Beat Cop PS4 Review – I Am The Law!.. Well Sort Of..?

Beat Cop is the newest release from Pixel Crow. It's very much a Police themed time management game where you take on the role of Jack Kelly, a disgraced Homicide Detective reduced to a ‘Beat Cop’ while trying to clear his name of a murder he didn’t commit. Set very much in the 80s, Beat Cop aims to take players through the world of those classic cop shows we all know and love (or at least those old enough to remember them); Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues etc. The biggest question; does Beat Cop fill that nostalgic void of a time long past? Or, does it fade into the background like those '80s shows that no-one remembers (Hollywood Beat anyone?). Gameplay Right at the start of Beat Cop as the game is loading, you are greeted with a screen explaining how the game is based on 80's cop ...

LEGO Movie 2 PS4 Review – Is Everything Still Awesome?

Hot on the heels of the new LEGO Movie 2 film is, of course, the latest game for pc and all consoles.  Developed by TT Fusion and published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, what can we expect of this latest LEGO offering? Gameplay Ok, confession time, I have played all of the LEGO games so far, partly due to having children and also due to a wife that loves most things LEGO.  I am used to the way they all play and so far most have seemed very similar in gameplay style with the exception of LEGO Worlds which was the first LEGO game to allow you to freebuild and do almost whatever you wanted while taking on the role of a Master Builder. I was expecting to play LEGO Movie 2 on my Playstation with the same old family friendly tried and tested game mechanics of the previous LE...

The Forest PS4 Review – Sun, sea and suspicious people.

Have you ever wanted to just get on a plane and head out anywhere? How about you hop on a plane, it crashes, you survive and land on the most beautiful little island you have ever witnessed? As much nature as a David Attenborough documentary and beautiful scenery. Sounds amazing right? how about if it means your only child was missing on the island, and the other occupants of the island are slightly cannibalistic and deformed, just slightly... Endnight Games, an independent games studio bring us their second title The Forest. The Forest is available on PC, Ps4, although it is not yet released for the Xbox one there are speculations and also questions as to if it will ever be available for the Microsoft platform.   Gameplay Playing as Eric, a loving father who wants to tak...

Riot: Civil Unrest PS4 Review – Clash Of The Pixel People

Riot: Civil Unrest is, as it sounds, a game based on riots.  Developed by Merge Games you get to play as either the Police or angry protestors in scenarios that simulate actual events around the world.  Cue some Kaiser Chiefs, I predict a riot? Gameplay On initial thoughts of what Riot: Civil Unrest could entail, I found myself really looking forward to getting stuck into a real-time riot simulator as it is something I have never taken part in in the real world.  You see riots all the time reported in the media, therefore taking control of one of the sides involved in an attempt to win the clash was an interesting idea. Reading into the background bumf to the game, you learn that the creator of Riot: Civil Unrest, Leonard Menchiari has experienced rioting first-hand at the NoTAV p...

At Sundown: Shots in the Dark PS4 Review – A 90’s style stealthy shoot-em-up

At Sundown: Shots in the Dark is a hide and seek style multiplayer shoot-em-up stealth game created by mild beast games and Versus|Evil. At sundown is available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo switch and PC. It’s available through local play,  training and also you can unlock different game modes as you level up. If you’re looking for a 90’s vibe gaming this may be a game for you! This screams SEGA gaming to me! Gameplay In the game, the light is your enemy, the best thing to do is keep hidden, and if you see any enemies shoot them and return to the darkness. Keeping away from any bullets that may be coming your way you can also collect small crates that give you options such as infinite ammo, a shield and other fun things. You can level up your guns meaning your rev...

Pode PS4 Review – Teamwork Has Never Felt So Rewarding

Pode, by independent developer Henchman & Goon, is an amazing co-operative platform puzzle game that has been inspired by Norwegian culture.  Available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch this exploration game is quite simply amazing and a breath of fresh air to me. Gameplay Pode features two main characters; a little rock called Bulder and a fallen star called Glo, together they must work together as they wander through the mysterious and magical Mount Fjellheim in a mission to help Glo get back into the sky.  Incidentally, Pode is Norwegian for "Graft"! Playing as either two-player co-op or in single player you must utilise each of the character's special abilities in order to activate and reach the exit on each level.  In the early stages, the basics of movement and jumping ...

Hitman HD Collection PS4 Review – You Are In My Crosshairs

Hitman HD Collection by IO interactive is available now for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Gameplay Hitman HD Collection is two games in one. Firstly you have Hitman: Absolution and secondly is Hitman: Bloodmoney. Both these games have been remastered to 4k resolution with enhanced graphics with 60fps. Now I am a longtime fan of the Hitman series since the original PC releases, so I was very happy to receive a review code to revisit my time as Agent 47. All the classic weapons are here from your Silverballers to fiber wire and poisons. Depending on how you choose to play each of these games will change your experience as Agent 47. Personally I love to take my time and wait for the perfect moment to strike. There is nothing better than treating each hit provided like a work ...
