Broken Blades Review

Broken Blades is the debut game from developer Pirates Game Studio and is published by Golden Eggs Studios & West Wind Games. It is a 2D rogue-like platformer set in a fantasy dungeon full of various creatures and monsters. After the tutorial, I learned the game doesn't waste time. Right away I was in control of the protagonist in a world deep underground but with no understanding of who I am and how I got there. Fighting various monsters along the way as well as dodging the various traps, I only know hopefully there is a way out. Broken Blades - The Sword Is Definitely A Fixer-Upper From my first-hand experience and the general opinion of other players, Broken Blades is very difficult so bear that in mind. You can pick the game up on PC where it is available now. Platformers aren't ...

Arboria Review

Developed by Dreamplant and published by All in! Games, Arboria is a dark fantasy rogue-lite. Entering early access on Steam in May 2020, the game will release fully September 9th 2021. Gobbok And The Evil Hat We begin our journey as a Yotun warrior birthed from the father tree with a singular purpose - to hunt down Gobbok. Gobbok is another Yotun, who's been corrupted by a cursed hat and who's fled the village against the will of the elders, descending into the Durnar. After we too become corrupted by defeating Gobbok and equipping his hat, we find ourselves back at the troll village once again being birthed a Yotun from the father tree. What do you think about a character's death being permanent? Gameplay Arboria is best described as souls-like, with elements of the game bearing r...

Dice Legacy Review

Dice Legacy takes tabletop games in digital form to a whole new level. It uses dice-based mechanics to gather resources, defend your settlement, and expand into the unknown while also being a challenging survival city builder. It is developed by DESTINYbit (Empires Apart) and published by Ravenscourt (Redeemer, Road 96, Kona). Dice Legacy was released on September 9th, 2021 on PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic as well on Nintendo Switch. Dice Legacy is a Challenge in Strategy and Luck One of the biggest problems I find with tabletop games is that reading through the instructions for most of them seems to take forever. Even after reading them, I usually still have no idea what I'm doing and learn best by playing. Dice Legacy does just that; gives you the tips and info you need for gameplay ...

Road 96 Review

The world of rogue-like games is ever-expanding and evolving, but I've never seen the concept used quite like this. Road 96 takes procedural generation, unlockable upgrades, and the concept of multiple playthroughs, and adapts them to a narrative-heavy adventure game. It comes from developer Digixart whose previous games were Lost in Harmony and 11-11 Memories Retold. With an authoritarian government in control of the country and the prospects of their future seeming bleaker and bleaker, teenagers are heading to the border in their droves. Can you help any of them make it past the border wall and security into a better country, a better life? While modern American political influences are seen in the game, the narrative was shaped from stories told by staff at 11 Bit Studios in Poland a...

Jupiter Hell Review

Welcome to my review of Jupiter Hell, which is available now on PC via Steam and GOG! Brought to us by developers ChaosForge (Doom The Roguelike) and publishers Hyperstrange (Postal: Brain Damaged, Frozenheim). What Jupiter Hell can promise is that it's a roguelike turn-based strategy game like no other! Jupiter Hell - Not For The Faint Of Heart! Will I survive the hordes of demonic forces? Or will I fail and hit that eternal permadeath wall? If you enjoy this review, please feel free to check out my previous preview here, where I played Draft of Darkness. Gameplay As with most games, we start off with a pretty basic tutorial that teaches us the basics of the game. The game quickly teaches us that it is a turn-based strategy game that is set on a grid format, with permadeath. That's ri...

Draft Of Darkness Preview

Welcome to my preview of Draft of Darkness. Brought to us by Crawly Games, who published and developed Draft of Darkness. This game will be available on Steam Early Access on 30th July 2021. Draft of Darkness is a survival horror game that has deck-building features as well as exploration through roguelike dungeons. I was seriously surprised to learn that Crawly Games is actually a one-man team. When you play this game it definitely does not feel like the work of a single person. Think along the lines of how polished Stardew Valley felt when it first came about. Draft of Darkness - Take A Wrong Turn And It Might Be Your Last! Can we make it through the dark and dank corridors? Continue reading to find out. If you enjoy this preview, please be sure to check out my previous review here whe...

Curious Expedition 2 Review – An Enjoyable Journey

Curious Expedition 2 is a turn-based narrative roguelike adventure game that is set in a recreated version of the late 19th century. It is brought to us by independent developers Maschinen-Mensch (Curious Expedition) and publishers Thunderful Group (Lonely Mountains: Downhill, Say No! More). Curious Expedition 2 is a follow-up to Maschinen-Mensch's first game, Curious Expedition, that was brought to us in 2016. Curious Expedition 2 - Most Definitely An Enjoyable Journey I played Curious Expedition 2 on PC, but the game is coming to consoles later this year. Some 5 years after the original, can Curious Expedition 2 be as successful? Read on to find out more. If you enjoy this article, please check out my previous articles here. Gameplay The game gives a choice of three difficulties w...
