Malum Review

Releasing September 2nd with a retail of £3.99, Malum is a cooperative horror survival game for up to 4 players, Developed and published by MalumGames. Malum features procedural puzzles which players must solve while being stalked by a range of gruesome monsters. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope! Whether it's a scream, a shout, or a little cry.. we all have our own way of expressing fear, our own little quirk. For me it's repeatedly saying "Nope!" while running in the opposition direction, and that's something I did ALOT during this game. What's your quirk? Let me know in the comments below. Gameplay First of all, the game is very simple in its design - something that I feel is reflected in the £3.99 price tag - we'll circle back to this later. It appears to have been built atop an Unreal ...

Top 10 Horror Games So Far

Welcome to my top 10 horror games which are made to keep you on the edge of your seat, get that heartrate up, and scare the pants off of you. Gareth recently wrote up a feature about his top 10 mobile games that can be played offline, check that out here. So I was asked to write up what I thought were my top 10 games in the horror genre. Some of these are not solely in the horror genre but are survival horror games. These are mostly modern games as I've only in recent times been playing horror games. Now let us get straight into the list of games. 10. Blair Witch Brought to us by Bloober Team nearly two years ago, Blair Witch originally came to PC and Xbox One. Bloober Team has since released various versions of Blair Witch on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and even VR platforms ...

Observer: System Redux Review

Way back in 2017, hot off the heels of Layers of Fear, developers Bloober Team continued the psychological horror trend with Observer. It would seem they have found their niche because Layers of Fear 2, Blair Witch, and The Medium followed. Observer: System Redux is the base game but with additional story content and improved graphics. The game itself is evidently influenced by things such as the George Orwell book Nineteen Eight-Four, the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop role-playing game, and the movie Blade Runner. It even stars our favourite replicant, the late Rutger Hauer as Daniel Lazarski, the titular Observer, or neural detective. More on that later. Observer: System Redux - "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain" - Rutger Hauer Observer: System Redux was initiall...

Blair Witch: PCVR Edition Review

On November 20th 2020 I foolishly decided to review Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition. I was sort of nominated for it. Having scared myself silly while playing the game, the people over at TC HQ thought it would be a great idea for me to take a look at the Oculus Rift version as well! Blair Witch PCVR Edition - All the scares with more clarity! How is the Rift version in comparison to the Quest? Let's see what Bloober team got up to! Gameplay Running games on VR via your PC has both upsides and downsides.  Better graphics are to be had however at a penalty of requiring a semi-decent graphics card. While the Quest is clearly the easiest VR unit to work with as it is standalone, it does suffer from the restrictions that are lifted by having a high-powered gaming rig. Of course, the Q...

Draft Of Darkness Preview

Welcome to my preview of Draft of Darkness. Brought to us by Crawly Games, who published and developed Draft of Darkness. This game will be available on Steam Early Access on 30th July 2021. Draft of Darkness is a survival horror game that has deck-building features as well as exploration through roguelike dungeons. I was seriously surprised to learn that Crawly Games is actually a one-man team. When you play this game it definitely does not feel like the work of a single person. Think along the lines of how polished Stardew Valley felt when it first came about. Draft of Darkness - Take A Wrong Turn And It Might Be Your Last! Can we make it through the dark and dank corridors? Continue reading to find out. If you enjoy this preview, please be sure to check out my previous review here whe...

Chernobylite Review

Chernobylite is a single-player, science fiction survival video game developed by The Farm 51 and published by All In! Games. The game is out now on PC for £23.99 and is coming to PlayStation 4 & Xbox in September 2021 and next-gen consoles are yet to be announced. AN ALTERNATIVE LOOK AT THE CHERNOBYL DISASTER! I have always been fascinated by the Chernobyl disaster and horror games. Discovering Chernobylite I was instantly drawn into the way The Farm 51 took this and made it a truly unique storyline and allowing players to visit Chernobyl in the comfort of their own homes. Follow me, as we embark on a grueling story of discovering what happened to Igor's Fiancée. Gameplay Chernobylite takes a lot of inspiration from the classic post-apocalyptic game setting, but they make ...

The Persistence Enhanced Review

The Persistence Enhanced a stealthy first-person shooter where you need to harvest the stem cells from your opponent's spine. Yes! you read that right, stem cells are the main requirement for progression within the game. Have you got the spine to survive this nightmare? Thank the team at Firesprite for sending the code for Persistence for an honest review of their title. I jumped at the chance to be thrown into space aboard a stranded ship with no engine, all while currently orbiting a black hole!! Playing the role of Security officer Zimri Elder, things are already stacked against you. In addition to this, you are dead along with the rest of The Persistence crew. Gameplay In a setting that reminded me of the 1997 film 'Event Horizon' the ship's cloning machines have gone into o...

Song Of Horror Review

The horror genre is a bit of a strange subject for me. I love horror in all media; movies (especially foreign), games, books, and so on. But, it's rare that something comes along that gets under my skin. I desperately want to feel fear as I play, yet few games have been able to satisfy my morbid hunger and my gluttony for gore. This is thanks in part to my wholely responsible father exposing me to movies like Aliens, Poltergeist, and Children of the Corn at the age of six. I can recall only one game that made me turn it off after every checkpoint because of the sheer anxiety it bestowed upon me. That game was Outlast. A game that can be done in one sitting, took me about 3 years to finish. But, I DID finish it. I still haven't played the DLC or the sequel...but I did finish the first ga...
