Cloud Gardens – This is Art-A-Stack…

Cloud Gardens is an incredibly relaxing, diorama creating puzzle game from Noio Games. Their first game since the excellent Kingdom franchise debuted; Cloud Gardens is what I like to call a seed 'em up. It's an incredibly different pace compared to their more roguelite, tower defence style of the Kingdom games. Giving you small urban wastelands, that you can manipulate and grow plants in. Your goal is to populate and produce a diorama. That is until you achieve a certain level of foliage and you're able to progress. You quickly realise Cloud Gardens is just an incredibly relaxing puzzle game, with some clever engine design too. Gameplay Cloud Gardens starts up and you're just given a voxelised space to examine; it is up to you to work out how to play the game. In fact the first level is ...

Tamarin – Cutesy Shootsy

Chameleon Games is a small studio made up of some Ex-Rareware developers founded in 2013. Their game, Tamarin was made to be reminiscent of 3D Platformer collectathons like Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 or Jet Force Gemini. Developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC, Tamarin released on September 10th, 2020. For this review, I'll be taking a look at the PC version of the game, so let's get into it, shall we? "Explore, leap and shoot to save your family from the insect invasion! Leap with the agility of a tamarin as you journey into the Northern wilderness, in a world full of exploration, 3D-platforming and bug-splattering action!" - Steam Store Gameplay Tamarin is a 3d Platformer sometimes. Other times it's a third-person shooter. You begin the game with a short cutscene of a nice peaceful ...

Swords ‘N Magic and Stuff – Skyrim Meets Minecraft

Developed and published by Kindred Games comes Swords 'N Magic and Stuff. Made over two years by just three people; following Kindred's vision and made possible with a very successful Kickstarter campaign. Kindred set out to make the kind of video game that could be enjoyed with people of all ages. Inspired by open-world fantasy RPGs like the Elder Scrolls series and sandbox games like Minecraft. Swords 'N Magic and Stuff blends these elements and, like the title suggests, offers many options with how to play from slaying goblins to treasure-seeking. Willy Morgan & The Curse of Bone Town – Hey You Guuuuyyyyssss!

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town by Italian devs Imaginarylab and publishers VLG is a point and click adventure game that beautifully blends together a fantasy pirate-themed world with the modernism of today. Initially available on PC today (11th of August), and later coming to all consoles, I was lucky enough to play through the complete version of the game that delves a lot further into the story than the demo. Don't worry there won't be any spoilers me hearties! Gameplay You play as teenager Willy Morgan as he uncovers the story surrounding his famous archaeologist Father's mysterious disappearance ten years ago, all thanks to a well-timed letter dropping through the letterbox. What ensues is a very alluring plotline that takes you to Bone Town, a quaint pirate vil...

Paper Mario The Origami King – Lets Unfold This Game

Paper Mario The Origami King was released on the 17th July 2020. Published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, it is also compatible with the Switch lite. Paper Mario The Origami King was developed by Intelligent Systems, the same developer as previous Paper Mario games. They have developed games across many previous Nintendo systems. Paper Mario is a role-playing game that combines 2D characters with 3D backgrounds and it does so brilliantly! It's a turn-based role-playing game combined with features from previous Mario games. Mario and Luigi have been invited to the Origami Festival at Princess Peach's castle, but on arrival, they quickly realise something is amiss. Folded soldiers want to remake you into the folded glory that is origami! You'll find yourself in the dungeon...

Trackmania – Trackmildia

When I hear the word Trackmania, all I can think of are those really crazy looking tracks where all you have to do is press GO, and you'll race fairly automatically through a series of cool jumps and narrow holes. Admittedly this is my first foray into the Trackmania franchise, Though I've been interested for a long time. It's a franchise that's been ongoing for nearly two decades now, with various iterations and versions of the game released on a bunch of different platforms. The latest Trackmania is a remake of a previous title, called Trackmania Nations. It a free-to-play starter version or you can choose to subscribe to a yearly pass or buy the standard edition. Subscribing to the pass allows you access to all the online club events and social aspects, like customization of your car li...

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom – Re-hydrated Review – Fun Sponge

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, originally released way back in 2003, was that rare beast; a licensed title which delivered both in terms of quality and adherence to the source material. The colourful 3D platformer brought over everything which was great about the first three seasons of SpongeBob, including the various exotic undersea locales and the crazy characters which inhabit them. In spite of mixed reviews from the critics, fans were besotted, and it sold so well that it was added to the classic ranges for Gamecube, Xbox and PS2. Publisher THQ Nordic is in the business of fishing up quality properties from yesteryear, and they are now ready to unleash Purple Lamp Studios port (hoho), SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom - Re-hydrated upon the world. Is...

Shantae And The Seven Sirens Review – Shantae, You Stay

Don’t you just love it when a game packs a surprisingly fun punch? Personally, I’m always a big fan of getting my preconceived notions smashed to bits, and suffice it to say that WayForward’s Shantae And The Seven Sirens has done exactly that. As a complete newcomer to the Shantae series, I had no idea what to expect. In fact, the opening titles of this instalment left me wondering if I’d accidentally stumbled into an actual anime cartoon at first. However, on jumping into my first playthrough, I found myself more than pleasantly surprised at this single-player platformer’s box of tricks (with a few caveats, but more on that later). Time to release this Half-Genie from the bottle and discover what makes Shantae And The Seven Sirens a refreshingly enjoyable game. Gameplay Shantae ...
