Astro’s Playroom Review – A Celebration Of Sony’s Legacy

Sony's latest mascot is a little robot called Astro. Astro debuted in a strong, PlayStation VR game called Astro Bot Rescue Mission. This was a critical and commercial success right out of the door, offering a charming 3D platformer with a VR twist. Despite being a full game, it was arguably the flagship tech demo for the VR unit itself for a long time.  Well SIE Japan Studio is back, and their Asobi Team has put Astro right back in the spotlight. A self-proclaimed tech demo designed to show off the features of the new DualSense controller. This actually undersells Astro's Playroom, which in realistic terms is a competent platformer with a slew of Easter eggs to keep any Sony fan smiling. Check out what we made of it in this Astro's Playroom review. Astro's Playroom Review: A Tech Demo Wi...

Let’s Sing 2021 Review – Does It Hit The High Notes?

Indoor entertainment has never been more popular than in 2020. Especially if you live in a household with several people where maybe morale is running low. Fortunately for us, Voxler have coupled with Koch Media to bring us this superstar simulation. Let's Sing in...Let's Sing 2021 A music simulator is a fairly straight-forward genre, you sing, a microphone picks up your voice and then a bar shows you what pitch you're singing at and what you actually need to be hitting. A score keeps track of your accuracy and how well you've stuck to that pitch. So does Let's Sing 2021 hit the high notes? Let's find out! Tetris Effect: Connected – Not That Effective…

Tetris Effect: Connected is the follow-up to Tetris Effect. It's actually mostly the same game, only with the addition of all-new co-op and competitive online modes. These modes can also be played locally and are probably where the game really excels. If you're reading this, heck if you're human then you'll know what Tetris is. If you don't know what Tetris is then there's likely a whole lot more to this planet that you've never seen. I'll pause here a moment to let you go learn about things like the sun, air, trees and sandwiches. Now that we're sure you know what Tetris is, what makes Tetris Effect: Connected different? The whole shtick of the game is that it's Tetris with moods. As you manipulate the tetrominos on-screen they'll influence the beat, and the surroundings to help en...

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time – Something Old, Something New

Imagine a world where The Wrath of Cortex, Crash Twinsanity and Crash of the Titans doesn't exist.  Are you there?  Good!  For the purpose of this review, we will remain in this ideal world.  It isn't that they are bad games, it's just they are not good either. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is first and foremost, the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 PlayStation game Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.  Since the days of being in the hands of developer Naughty Dog, it has moved about a bit but is now firmly in the grip of Toys For Bob.  Toys For Bob have had recent successes with the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, so it seems only fitting that they take the reigns again for this original entry into the franchise.  Once again published by veterans Activision, C...

Cloud Gardens – This is Art-A-Stack…

Cloud Gardens is an incredibly relaxing, diorama creating puzzle game from Noio Games. Their first game since the excellent Kingdom franchise debuted; Cloud Gardens is what I like to call a seed 'em up. It's an incredibly different pace compared to their more roguelite, tower defence style of the Kingdom games. Giving you small urban wastelands, that you can manipulate and grow plants in. Your goal is to populate and produce a diorama. That is until you achieve a certain level of foliage and you're able to progress. You quickly realise Cloud Gardens is just an incredibly relaxing puzzle game, with some clever engine design too. Gameplay Cloud Gardens starts up and you're just given a voxelised space to examine; it is up to you to work out how to play the game. In fact the first level is ...

Tamarin – Cutesy Shootsy

Chameleon Games is a small studio made up of some Ex-Rareware developers founded in 2013. Their game, Tamarin was made to be reminiscent of 3D Platformer collectathons like Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 or Jet Force Gemini. Developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC, Tamarin released on September 10th, 2020. For this review, I'll be taking a look at the PC version of the game, so let's get into it, shall we? "Explore, leap and shoot to save your family from the insect invasion! Leap with the agility of a tamarin as you journey into the Northern wilderness, in a world full of exploration, 3D-platforming and bug-splattering action!" - Steam Store Gameplay Tamarin is a 3d Platformer sometimes. Other times it's a third-person shooter. You begin the game with a short cutscene of a nice peaceful ...
