Hell Let Loose Review

On Tuesday, July 29th Hell Let Loose rolled out of Early Access and into its 1.0 release with its Update 10. A hardcore, first-person shooter set in World War 2, Hell Let Loose is the flagship game of developer Black Matter Studio and published by Team17. It prides itself in being a realistic multiplayer shooter, with open 50 vs 50 battles. These consist of infantry, armour and strategy. There is also a resource-based meta-game. Other titles in the World War 2 setting simply don't compare to the simulation of war brought forth by Hell Let Loose. Originally developed for PC in Unreal Engine 4 and is available for purchase on Steam. Black Matter Studios has announced plans to port the game to the latest Xbox and PlayStation platforms as well. PREPARE FOR THE BRUTAL, REALISTIC PAIN OF WAR IN...

Lemnis Gate Preview

Lemnis Gate, by devs Ratloop Games Canada is a tactical first-person shooter at heart, but with one hell of a twist.  I was lucky along with a few other of the TC staff to take part in the recent Beta and with the game being deployed across PC, Playstation, and Xbox on the 28th of September it was time to get this preview written! Lemnis Gate - COD Meets Time Travel, Can Your Reality Survive? If you enjoy strategic turn-based fps-styled games, read on but be warned, all is not as clear-cut as it seems! Gameplay Lemnis Gate comes with 4 game modes across 7 maps at launch featuring ditties such as seek and destroy, domination, retrieve XM (capture the flag), and deathmatch.  With single-player, co-op, and PvP, every eventuality is covered.  The team that you control currently consist...

Dude, Where Is My Beer? Review

Dude, Where Is My Beer? An old-school point and click adventure game about finding a pilsner in the confusing world of unnecessary craft beers and snobby hipsters. I got the thrills for the pils! Dude, Where Is My Beer? Was released on Steam 4th November 2020 and holds a "Very positive" ranking in the Steam review section. Developed and published by Arik Zurabian. This is the first game listed on steam by the developer. Let's check it out and see why it has held such a high ranking. Gameplay On first loading the game you are met with a small cut scene. You are dropped off in the town of Oslo by tour bus. You have a quick chat with the driver and decide to head off. Your quest is to head off to the pub for a pint. simple right? Wrong. Things quickly take a turn for the worse whe...

Bloodroots Review

Welcome to my review of Bloodroots. Developed and published by Paper Cult Inc, which is known for Fat Mask and is an indie game developer based in Montreal, Canada. Bloodroots is an action-packed game where timing is key in your survival to progress through the game whilst taking down foes. Bloodroots - Take Down Your Foes With Anything You Please The chosen platform here was the Xbox Series X. This is with thanks to it being added to Xbox Game Pass on the 15th of July. If you enjoy this review please check out my previous review here, where I played Open Country on the PlayStation 4. We're also very active on social media, you can find our links down at the bottom of my review. Gameplay We start Bloodroots in a bad way, our protagonist, Mr. Wolf, has been betrayed by his clan. But all...

Red Solstice 2: Survivors Review

Fresh from the loins of devs Ironward Games and published by 505 Games, Red Solstice 2: Survivors is one heck of a futuristic blood bath!  Falling into the real-time top-down tactical genre there is a real feel for this sequel of a mash between Diablo and Xcom 2. The number of times I died I really want to add Cannon Fodder to that list. Red Solstice 2: Survivors - Real-Time XCOM I couldn't wait to see how this game played having heard a few good things from fellow writers.  Time to blast some zombie mutant aliens!  If you like what you see, remember to give us a like, share and follow so that you don't miss out on all things TC! Gameplay The year is 117 AE (After Earth).  With a virus threatening to end mankind (sounding familiar?) it is down to you and your squad to fight mutants...

Terra Nil Preview

From developers, Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital, available for Windows (Steam) comes Terra Nil. Free lives are more known for their wacky games, that don't take themselves too seriously (Cricket through the ages, Gorn and Broforce) They've taken a slightly more serious approach for Terra Nil. If you're a fan of city builder games, you'll love this, It offers a different spin on the genre, which is new and refreshing. Rebuild the wasteland Being a fan of city-building/management games, I was very interested in the opportunity to check out Terra Nil. After seeing the launch trailer I was keen to jump in. Carry on reading to find out what I thought of this early preview build. If you enjoy this article you can check out my previous review for Lumberhill here. As always you can...

Red Solstice 2: Survivors Preview Event

I was lucky enough to attend an exclusive 505 game Zoom presentation where I got the chance to look at Red Solstice 2: Survivors and how the game was coming along.  If you don't know anything about Red Solstice 2: Survivors, it is a Strategy RPG Real-Time Tactics style game (think of XCOM) based in the future; well year 117 after Earth's STROL mutant invasion and your tasks to assemble to counter the threat. The developer Irownard split the preview up into 3 sections: introduction to the 6 classes,  showing the strategy layer of the game, and then the player experience. The Classes Assault: The assault class are experts in the frontline and excels in any frontline activity.  They are commonly deployed to secure territorial gains or clear perimeters. They are highly trained opera...

The Hand of Merlin Preview

Knights, archers and wizards circle around for I, Jas of House Thumb Culture, have been recently spending my time on turn-based rogue-lite RPG The Hand of Merlin.  Currently available on Steam in early access, The Hand of Merlin is developed by Croatian-based Room-C Games and Croteam.  Although loosely based around the Arthurian legend, this is certainly a game with a slight twist! The Hand of Merlin - Arise and arise a lot more! Can you make the treacherous journey with the holy grail or will you be killed by the local yobs or alien monsters?  Yes, you heard me correctly!  Game on! Gameplay When I first had the opportunity to review The Hand of Merlin, the first thought that I had was of commanding a gallant King Arthur and his comrades X-com style across an olde world land.  Litt...

Solasta: Crown Of The Magister Review

In the debut game from indie developer and publisher Tactical Adventures comes Solasta Crown of the Magister. As a fan of tabletop and video game RPGs, Solasta definitely caught my eye. So much so that I also wrote the Thumb Culture preview which you can find here. A single-player turned based isometric RPG set in the world of Solasta. The game takes place in a fantasy world following a devastating magical cataclysm from which it has not fully recovered. Solasta Crown of the Magister is available now on Steam and GOG. Solasta Crown of the Magister - Heavy is the head that wears the crown The Kickstarter campaign was incredibly successful and made the game possible. A tactical RPG combined with 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, Solasta measures up against similar games such as Baldur's ...

Siege Survival: Gloria Victis Review

Today we have my review of Siege Survival: Gloria Victis, a strategy role-playing game from developers Fish Tank Studio and publishers Ravenscourt, which is a subsidiary of Koch Media. Let us know in the comments what you think, and as always, check out my previous review here of a fun little game called Sockventure.
