Red Solstice 2: Survivors Preview Event

I was lucky enough to attend an exclusive 505 game Zoom presentation where I got the chance to look at Red Solstice 2: Survivors and how the game was coming along.  If you don't know anything about Red Solstice 2: Survivors, it is a Strategy RPG Real-Time Tactics style game (think of XCOM) based in the future; well year 117 after Earth's STROL mutant invasion and your tasks to assemble to counter the threat. The developer Irownard split the preview up into 3 sections: introduction to the 6 classes,  showing the strategy layer of the game, and then the player experience. The Classes Assault: The assault class are experts in the frontline and excels in any frontline activity.  They are commonly deployed to secure territorial gains or clear perimeters. They are highly trained opera...

The Hand of Merlin Preview

Knights, archers and wizards circle around for I, Jas of House Thumb Culture, have been recently spending my time on turn-based rogue-lite RPG The Hand of Merlin.  Currently available on Steam in early access, The Hand of Merlin is developed by Croatian-based Room-C Games and Croteam.  Although loosely based around the Arthurian legend, this is certainly a game with a slight twist! The Hand of Merlin - Arise and arise a lot more! Can you make the treacherous journey with the holy grail or will you be killed by the local yobs or alien monsters?  Yes, you heard me correctly!  Game on! Gameplay When I first had the opportunity to review The Hand of Merlin, the first thought that I had was of commanding a gallant King Arthur and his comrades X-com style across an olde world land.  Litt...

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Review

It's been roughly three years to the day since I first properly played a Mass Effect game, and then Mass Effect Legendary Edition drops into my lap.  Yeah, I was very late to the party with this trilogy. I had tried it before, but action RPGs just weren't really my thing at the time. Fast forward to 2018 and I am a different gamer, a more developed and mature gamer. So when I played it back then, I could have kicked myself for not playing it before. Instead of playing the usual first-person shooters, I could have been playing this space epic! Mass Effect opened my eyes to how truly diverse the RPG genre can be. "Just another routine mission. Why do they always say that before a mission?" For a while, Bioware had been teasing something about Mass Effect all over social media. Fans were le...

Biomutant Review

Biomutant from new development studio Experiment 101 (ex Just Cause developers) and publishers THQ Nordic has recently released. It's worth noting the Experemont 101 is a team of only 20 people. We've played it and we have some thoughts to share with you. Available now on PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox series X|S, PS4, and PS5. Biomutant is an open-world RPG game, filled with missions, side quests, and collectibles to keep you busy for hours! Biomutant Review - It's like Ratchet and Clank meets Devil May Cry - But cuter Ever since the reveal trailer in 2017, I have been very excited to play Biomutant. It struck me as a zany, over-the-top, open-world adventure game, and I instantly fell in love with the art style and the gameplay I saw. I couldn't wait to play it! Do I still feel the same exc...

Solasta: Crown Of The Magister Review

In the debut game from indie developer and publisher Tactical Adventures comes Solasta Crown of the Magister. As a fan of tabletop and video game RPGs, Solasta definitely caught my eye. So much so that I also wrote the Thumb Culture preview which you can find here. A single-player turned based isometric RPG set in the world of Solasta. The game takes place in a fantasy world following a devastating magical cataclysm from which it has not fully recovered. Solasta Crown of the Magister is available now on Steam and GOG. Solasta Crown of the Magister - Heavy is the head that wears the crown The Kickstarter campaign was incredibly successful and made the game possible. A tactical RPG combined with 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, Solasta measures up against similar games such as Baldur's ...

King Of Seas Review

King of Seas is developed by 3D clouds, and they have brought us a single-player open-world RPG. They previously made car-based games so have leapt to sailing the seven seas. They, alongside Team17, a well-known indie publisher who previously brought us the Overcooked! series and Worms WMD. Following the popularity of games such as Sea of Thieves, the pirate genre is growing. And I believe that King of Seas is only the most recent addition to the genre and is a quality one at that. King of Seas is available now on Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Series X|S, and PS4. If you're still deciding after my review you can find the preview to King of Seas written by Martin here. King of Seas - I'm the captain now! You begin King of Seas as a newly minted captain and playing in a third-pers...
