Shantae And The Seven Sirens Review – Shantae, You Stay

Don’t you just love it when a game packs a surprisingly fun punch? Personally, I’m always a big fan of getting my preconceived notions smashed to bits, and suffice it to say that WayForward’s Shantae And The Seven Sirens has done exactly that. As a complete newcomer to the Shantae series, I had no idea what to expect. In fact, the opening titles of this instalment left me wondering if I’d accidentally stumbled into an actual anime cartoon at first. However, on jumping into my first playthrough, I found myself more than pleasantly surprised at this single-player platformer’s box of tricks (with a few caveats, but more on that later). Time to release this Half-Genie from the bottle and discover what makes Shantae And The Seven Sirens a refreshingly enjoyable game. Gameplay Shantae ...

Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics Review

With a title that rolls off the tongue and boasting an impressive amount of games, Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics could be the perfect purchase to keep you entertained during these unprecedented times. However, with 51 titles, are there more duds than Classics? Gameplay Fitness games, party games and even cardboard, Nintendo’s innovation is evident with the Nintendo Switch and here we are again with another niche entry into the Nintendo Switch library.  51 Worldwide Games is simply essential for families. It’s approachable, inclusive and a ton of fun. Similar to previous Nintendo titles such as NintendoLand and Wii Sports, anyone can pick up a joy-con and play. Playing with others is simple, create a lobby and your friend can just simply join. Yes, it’s that simple, which ...

Cranked Up Early Access Review – Rolling Around

BBlack Studios bring us Cranked Up, the mesmerising adventure of a doughnut trying to get dunked into coffee. If that isn't enough to sell a game, then I dunno what is. Actually in hindsight, I don't like coffee, but I'm all over the sugary goodness that is doughnuts. So I decided to pop to the local doughnut shop and stock up for the adventure of a lifetime, and probably gain a pound or two as well. Gameplay I honestly do'nut know where to start with this. Cranked Up has left me in a little bit of a state if I'm honest. I kind of feel like I took a lot of acid before I had sweet cravings and the result may just have been the inspiration for this game. After several hours of phone-based therapy at huge cost I feel like I am now human enough to continue. Fortunately there is a tuto...

Get Packed Review – Car Crashes And Forklift Fumbles

Developed by Moonshine Studios and published by Coatsink, Get Packed is a manic packing game with some interesting concepts. You see slides, forklifts, and hordes of black Friday shoppers, But will any of these get in the way of your job? If not then your friends and family might! Get Packed is currently only available on the Google Stadia as an exclusive. Gameplay Get Packed is a fun and very fast-paced packing game. You play as a part of a removal firm, the aim of the game is to quite simply pack as many items as you can. Whilst playing you receive regular prompts from your clients requesting that certain items be packed ASAP. This sounds easy but it is a lot harder than you think! The slightest knock of an ancient artifact and it breaks into pieces! Each level has its own theme...

Gigantosaurus: The Game Review – Roarsome Fun!

Gigantosaurus: The Game developed by Wildsphere and published by OutRight Games is a fun, family-friendly game set in the prehistoric world of the Gigantosaurus cartoon found over on the Disney channel.  The dino tale is a mixture of part saving the world and part super race and features four playable dinos; Rocky, Tiny, Mazu and Bill who each have their own special ability. Gameplay Before I go on I must say this.  Gigantosaurus is for young children.  From the opening animated scene, you will able to tell from the slow rhyming narrative that what lies before you will not be the hardest of challenges for you, but for younger people, you may need to offer some assistance on occasion. Gigantosaurus feels and plays a little like Spyro as you run around the cartoony map littered with...

Moving Out Review – PIVOT!

Packing its bags and setting up residence on the Nintendo Switch is Moving Out. Taking inspiration from the fantastic Overcooked, the crazy, chaotic multiplayer is available on April 28th but is this worth the relocation fee? Gameplay You work for a professional removal service and your task is simple. You need to ensure that the identified items are moved from the house (or other crazy locations) to your truck. Although this may sound simple, I guarantee you, it isn't.  As a family, we sat together, joy-cons in hand, excited to experience the co-op fun. Smiles beamed across the kids’ faces as the bright lights of the title screen sparkled in their innocent eyes. 5 minutes later… “I said grab the f**king sofa! Come on! Pivot! PIVOT!” At this point, I realised that the Mov...

Bug Academy Review – Swarmy Study Buzzies

If you had asked me a while back if I would play a game about insects, my answer probably would have been; "Sim Ant?!". Since I was a young boy, I've enjoyed weird little games where you play as insects doing insect stuff. Sim Ant was semi-educational and fun. Bug Academy takes the idea of insect gameplay and adds a whole lot of fun physics. Developed by Igrek Games, and published by Ultimate Games for Microsoft Windows via Steam for a measly CAD$ 11.49, Bug Academy came out on January 14th, 2020. So, without further delay let's jump in and see what the BUZZ is about. (hehe, see what I did there?) Gameplay Bug Academy is a physics puzzler where you control a buzzy swarm of insects to complete various tasks. Igrek Games have laid out Bug Academy as a series of lessons about the various ty...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Switch Review

This is my first ever Animal Crossing game. Somehow previous titles have flown under my radar. Quarantined within a fairly small flat with a health pandemic circling the globe and many economies in free-fall, the carefree socialisation and mingling in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons trailers looked massively appealing. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is like a tiny ray of sunshine peeking through ever-darkening clouds. On your not-quite-deserted island nothing can (seriously) hurt you, and the only bugs you can catch are those which are too slow for your net. You don’t need to get into arguments about who is in charge or worry about where your next pay cheque is going to come from. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is exactly what isolated, confined, frightened people need right now. It’s q...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX Review

The Pokemon series has had a plethora of spin-off titles ranging from Picross to Pokken. As the Switch enjoys recycling games more than Snorlax enjoys a snooze, we were bound to get more remasters. Next on the long list of ports and re-releases is Spike Chunsoft's remaster of their first two Pokemon Dungeon games, which have been re-worked into one complete title: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX - catchy right? Gameplay The game starts with a personality test. You answer a range of questions to determine your spirit Pokemon. "Psyduck? What the..." but don't worry, if you are not happy with the Pokemon selected based on your answers, you can select one of the 16 Pokemon as your main character and an extra one to take the mantel of being your partner. The plot is at the forefro...

Clumsy Rush Nintendo Review – Stumbling Out Of The Gate

In Clumsy Rush, which was developed by NerfGame and published by RedDeerGames, you play as a feckless hippo whose goal is to reach the end of an obstacle course whilst wearing a crown over a series of 47 levels. Clumsy Rush released on Nintendo Switch at £4.99 on December 23rd 2019. Gameplay As the title suggests, controlling your hippo is intentionally challenging. You control your movement by using the L2 and R2 buttons to pivot upon your left and right legs respectively. There is a button that will cause you to rush forward, but if you are wearing the crown it will fall off immediately, rendering this move useless in single-player mode. Each level has a series of hazards that are designed to impede your progress. Unfortunately, games that revolve around clunky control schemes ca...
