Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries Review

In a surprise turn of events MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries arrived onto PS5. This was the first time the series had been on PlayStation consoles since MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. For those of us old enough to remember that was on the original Playstation back in 1995.  Craig reviewed the PC version back in 2019 where he awarded it the Thumb Culture GOLD award.  To see his review click here. Mechwarrior 5: "Systems Are Critical" Sadly there was a rough first impression that gave me cause for concern when I sat down to experience Mercenaries and all of the available DLC packs. Several crashes caused me to uninstall and reinstall. It is worth noting here that this was after the game had officially launched. Hardly the start to the series that I was looking forward to.  My game-breaki...

War Mongrels Review

Today I bring you my review of a new PC game named War Mongrels. This game was released on to Steam on October 19th, 2021, and is brought to us by developers Destructive Creations (IS Defense, Ancestors Legacy, Hatred) and publishers Surefire.Games (Heroes of Hammerwatch). War Mongrels is a real-time tactical action game akin to others like Commandos, Desperados, and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Take control of a group of German, Polish, and Lithuanian freedom fighters and help them fight through German outposts, patrols, and villages. War Mongrels Give Plenty Of Bite Check out my previous game review here where I played Nuclear Blaze. If you would like to follow us on social media there are links at the bottom of this article. Back 4 Blood – Team Review

Its time for another TC Group review, and this time it's Back 4 Blood that gets the treatment! Check out what the members of the TC team thought of this from developers, Turtle Rock Studios. What We Thought Martin During my playtime of the beta of Back 4 Blood open beta, I did not enjoy this game. However, upon playing the game on full release I can safely say that I was very wrong with my opinion. Back 4 Blood is a brilliant game. The gunplay is great, each weapon feels completely different, and the tools and accessories you can use vary quite a lot. The horde of Ridden charging at you is intense and will get you sitting on the edge of your seat especially when the "Special Ridden" come for you. These range from massive "Exploders" who are actually more dangerous when they get kille...

Crysis Remastered Trilogy Review

We are swimming in a sea of remasters at the minute. Everywhere you look there is something getting the treatment. Are we just pining to stay in the past? We are also spoilt for choice with first-person shooters, with Call of Duty and Battlefield leading the charge. So we have to ask ourselves, do we need another remastered first-person shooter? Well in terms of Crysis, yes, I believe we do. Crysis: Remastered was available on its own last year, but now we have all three games in the Crysis Remastered Trilogy. Crysis Remastered Trilogy - But Can It Run Crys... Oh, Forget It! When Crysis first came out in 2007, a lot of people didn't get to play it for fear of their PCs bursting into flames and melting into a miserable pile of circuit boards. This may be the opportunity that people never ...

Red Ronin Review

Red Ronin is a tactical turn-based slash and dash game (try saying that ten times) from Brazilian developer Thiago Oliveira and Wired Dreams Studio. Initially released on PC in 2020, the bloodthirsty Samurai is back! Catch her if you can on PlayStation, Xbox One/Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Keep Ronin, Ronin, Ronin I'm reviewing Red Ronin on Nintendo Switch, mainly handheld, which feels like a great match for a game that lets you dip in and out with ease. With its bloody pixel art and brutal challenges, Red Ronin has major Hotline Miami vibes. If you've yet to play the Hotline series, you can check out our review of the cult collection here. If you're excited to give Red Ronin a spin, give us a shout in the comments below. Played the original PC version? Let us know how you think it co...

Far Cry 6 Review

By now you've seen the comments on social media. "If you've played one Far Cry game, you've played them all". "It's just the same game in a different location, sometimes with the same topography". "It's just Assassin's Creed but with a different skin". But do you know why Far Cry 6 is going to do so well? Because it is a winning formula. Much like Grand Theft Auto and The Elder Scrolls series, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Far Cry 6 - "Rule #1 - A Good Guerrilla is a Hidden Guerrilla" Far Cry 6 is an ahem...far cry (I'm sorry) from its first game released in 2004 which was developed by Crytek who is more known for the Crysis series. Look out for the Crysis Trilogy Remastered review coming soon. The first game is the only one Ubisoft had nothing to do with. In total there have been six...

Ghostrunner Review

Ghostrunner has received its PS5 and Xbox Series X release taking the originally released game to new heights.  Developed by One More Level, Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms, this cyberpunk parkour-samurai-ninja foray looks stunning.  With so much history steeped into the development companies, I was excited to get my PS5 switched on so I could get going! Ghostrunner - The Ultimate Version of Bop It! Should you have the PS4 version already then it is refreshing to know that the PS5 version is a free upgrade.  I wish others would follow suit! After playing the likes of Mirror's Edge, could I transfer any of my building leaping skills to Ghostrunner?  Let's get it on!  If you enjoy my review be sure to check out my past articles here. Gameplay Set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk w...

Gley Lancer Review

As is the case in the 90's, many games weren't available to us here in the UK, and Gley Lancer was one of them. Originally it was published by Masaya and released in 1992 on the Sega Mega Drive and got ported to the Wii Virtual Console in 2008 with a translation in the manual. Now nearly 30 years later, the 16-bit shooter Gley Lancer has reached western shores fully loaded and fully translated. Gley Lancer - A New Enemy Approaches Ratalaika who are known for publishing ports and indie titles are present while Shinyden handles the porting duties. Gley Lancer will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 15th, 2021. Shoot 'em ups were ten a penny back in the day, so what makes this one stand out? Read on to see what I thought of the...

G-Darius HD Review

Not to be confused with the Pop Idol finalist Darius (remember him?), or the one-hit-wonder Dario G, who coincidentally released their hit 'Sunchyme' in the same year, G-Darius is originally an arcade game released in 1997. A year later the original PlayStation received a port and that is how I played it back in the day. I say that, I played a demo of it. In fact, I still have the demo from Official PlayStation Magazine with Tombi on the front as the main featured demo. G-Darius - Ain't No Sunchyme Here I remember enjoying it but I could not find the game anywhere, and it is still quite uncommon today. Since then it has been released on a few compilations. G-Darius was the first in the Darius series to use 3D polygons, but the gameplay remained in 2D. By 1997 shoot 'em ups were getting t...

Broken Blades Review

Broken Blades is the debut game from developer Pirates Game Studio and is published by Golden Eggs Studios & West Wind Games. It is a 2D rogue-like platformer set in a fantasy dungeon full of various creatures and monsters. After the tutorial, I learned the game doesn't waste time. Right away I was in control of the protagonist in a world deep underground but with no understanding of who I am and how I got there. Fighting various monsters along the way as well as dodging the various traps, I only know hopefully there is a way out. Broken Blades - The Sword Is Definitely A Fixer-Upper From my first-hand experience and the general opinion of other players, Broken Blades is very difficult so bear that in mind. You can pick the game up on PC where it is available now. Platformers aren't ...
