Solasta: Crown of the Magister – A Roll Of The Dice

Developed and published by Tactical Adventures, Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a third-person turned-based fantasy RPG. Like the Divinity:Original Sin series it uses an isometric viewpoint with the adventuring party. Solasta is their first game and made possible by a successful Kickstarter campaign. 1000 years after the Cataclysm, you become part of a group tasked with keeping the uneasy peace. Using Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition you create your party to make the game your own from skills and abilities to character personalities. Still in early access so with more to come from Tactical Adventures. "Roll for initiative, take attacks of opportunity, manage player location and the verticality of the battlefield in this Turn-Based Tactical RPG. In Solasta, you make the choices, dice...

Airplane Mode – Are We There Yet?!

Grab your luggage, we have a flight to catch. Airplane Mode is a simulation game available on PC from developers Bacronym, and publisher AMC. Airplane Mode can be purchased on Steam for £9.29 at the time of writing. We are told that "Airplane Mode delivers all the thrills of a real-time, six-hour commercial airline flight—in Coach. At least you've got a window seat. Buckle up.", let's see what I think. Gameplay When you first start Airplane Mode you are greeted with the main menu which consists of language, graphical, resolution options and two flight options. Available is 2 hours and 5 minutes, and 5 hours and 45 minutes. These are real-time, not in-game time like we see on some other simulation games. I chose the shortest of the flights at 2 hours and 5 minutes. I was then inside an...

Baldur’s Gate 3 – Back from the Underdark

Baldur's Gate 3 is the latest entry in the storied Baldur's Gate franchise from Forgotten Realms. Developed and published by Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3 has big potential to be the next great RPG on PC. I received a key to take a deep dive into the early access release of the game, So without too much blithering, I'm just going to jump right in. Given that this is a look at the in-progress development of the game, there won't be a score at the end, just my honest opinions. Let's get down to brass tacks, shall we? Gameplay Baldur's Gate 3 is the latest turn-based tactical RPG from Larian Studios, the developers behind the brilliant Divinity: Original Sin games. Based on the 5e Dungeons and Dragons ruleset, Baldur's Gate 3 really captures the spirit of the tabletop dice rolling RPG an...

Hellbound – Can I Get A Hell Yeah?

Before getting into the review let me take you back to the days when multiplayer was in person and not online. You have had an awful day at school and the one thing that could put a smile back on your face was MS-DOS (Yes you read that right, MS-DOS). You are probably lost by now, to be honest, so am I. I am in fact eluding to the amazing title that many gamers love, DOOM. It was the original, However, Saibot Studios took the concept and made Hellbound, what I can only describe as HELL LIKE METAL MAYHEM. Keep reading to find out how I got on. Gameplay As per Saibot Studios, you are a Huge-*** Mother****** killing demons in hell. And to be quite honest although that does cut straight to the point that is what it is. No cut scenes or anything unnecessary to start off with it is just st...

The Outer Worlds – An Adventure In Hyped-Up Space

Am I the only person in the known universe not to enjoy The Outer Worlds? It certainly feels that way! On paper, everything about The Outer Worlds should be right up my street. Developed by Obsidian and published by Private Division, this space opera-themed action-adventure RPG was probably one of my most highly-anticipated games to play of 2019. So, what went wrong? In this post, I'm going to be taking a look at The Outer Worlds in a bit more detail and putting it out there as to why it's got a lot more to do for me to fully get on board with The Board and all it's trappings. What's Not To Love About The Outer Worlds? I feel like I should preface all this with the obvious caveat; my take on The Outer Worlds is precisely that - my take. I appreciate that many others will (and do) abso...
Hades – Best Hack ‘n Slash Ever?

Hades – Best Hack ‘n Slash Ever?

Hades, developed and published by Supergiant Games (Pyre, Transistor and Bastion) is a colourful and humorous rogue-lite dungeon crawler based around Greek Mythology.  Do not think for a second that this is an RPG turn-based affair as while the influence may be loosely based on the strategy genre, the actual experience you have is a mixture of Supergiant's previous games.  Let's take a look! Gameplay In Hades, you play as Zagreus who is the son of Hades.  The aim is simple, escape from the underworld.  What proceeds is a very fast-paced hack and slash dungeon run whereby you get through as many rooms as you can before you inevitably die.  Don't worry, this is all part of the story, and it is through perishing that you progress the story. You begin the game in Tartarus, a deep ...

SpellForce 3: Fallen God is the second standalone expansion of SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest, which means that it can be played without owning the SpellForce 3 main game.  No prior knowledge of SpellForce 3, Soul Harvest or other SpellForce titles is required to understand and enjoy the storyline. "Your dwindling, nomadic tribe of trolls has just one goal, survival.  Plagued by vicious poachers for your precious tusks and weakened by disease, hope is almost lost- until an enigmatic Elven stranger offers you, the young chieftain Akrog, a path to salvation: you must resurrect a fallen god." Star Wars Squadrons – Pew Pew Pew

Within gaming, Star Wars titles seem to be extremely popular with some but not others. It is highly possible they could be Trekkies but there really is a mixed bag. As a big Star Wars fan myself, I can't help myself. It was exactly the same with Battlefront, I had to get my hands on a copy. Star Wars Squadrons is the latest title to be released by EA, and unlike Battlefront this time you are solely in crafts/ships (whatever you like to call them) in a fast-paced aerial battle. Star Wars Squadrons Is This The Game You Are Looking For? Having been excited for this release for a while it is finally here. Let's find out how I got on and don't forget you can always catch up with us on social media. If you have already had some hands-on time with Star Wars Squadrons do let us know your thought...

Going Under – Add Monster Slayer To Your CV

Taking inspiration from their own experiences in Seattle, Aggro Crab with a team of six people made Going Under. Inspired by their own experiences living in Seattle and the tech industry. The game revolves an unpaid intern named Jackie on their first day at Fizzle and parent company Cubicle. Quickly unfolding as a beat-em-up rogue as Jackie explores the ruins of business start-ups in the basement. The present day setting and satirical plot makes for a unique rogue dungeon crawler as Jackie swaps her marketing degree for melee weapons. This review was based on the PC version of the game but Going Under is also available on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. "Going Under is a satirical dungeon crawler about exploring the cursed ruins of failed tech startups. As an unpaid intern in the ...
