Wonder Blade Review – Streets of Blade?

If you’ve played Streets of Rage or more recently and fittingly, Castle Crashers, then Wonder Blade will seem very familiar to you. This is a 2D side-scrolling brawler that doesn’t do much to separate itself away from other games of it’s kind. That’s not to say this is a bad game, but there is no new ground broken here. Filled with pop culture references and comical cartoon violence. It’s hard not to enjoy the simplicity of mashing hordes of enemies and bouncing around the screen in this colourful adventure. Having won iOS GOTY in 2018 from Reddit, TouchArcade and AppAdvice, Wonder Blade makes its way to Playstation 4. If you've had a chance to play Wonder Blade, I'd love to hear what your take on it is. Don’t forget to let us know your thoughts in the comments below! As always, y...

Lair Of The Clockwork God Review – Point And Quip

Lair of the Clockwork God is brought to you by BAFTA-winning indie developer Size Five Games. Initially released on Steam in February 2020 and now available on PS4. It offers a never before seen mix of mechanics. On one hand, it's a point and click puzzle adventure in the vein of LucasArts classics such as Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle. On the other hand, it's an indie darling platformer complete with double jumping and Naruto running. The blend of gameplay approaches itself creates new ways to pose, and solve puzzles. You'll play as both Dan and Ben and will find yourself switching between the 2 frequently in order to utilise their skill sets. You'll have a blast as Dan and Ben muddle through old school adventure puzzles and platforming sections. Together you'll need to tea...

Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition Review – Not For The Faint-Hearted!

If like me, you remember the release of the shaky camcorder movie Blair Witch in the cinemas back in '99, you will know all too well the psychological horror that lies within this game.  Developed and published by the Bloober Team, Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition puts you in the woods, more or less on your own, in VR.  What could possibly go wrong?! Gameplay I must admit, receiving this game to play for the Quest 2 was at first "yay this is going to be amazing!", then it dawned on me that I was going to be the only one in the house that night.  With the static crackles on the baby monitor and the cats seemingly creaking on the floorboards louder than usual, I went from a bold character to a jumpy wreck before I had even got going! I really enjoyed Blair Witch: Oculus Edition whe...

Let’s Sing 2021 Review – Does It Hit The High Notes?

Indoor entertainment has never been more popular than in 2020. Especially if you live in a household with several people where maybe morale is running low. Fortunately for us, Voxler have coupled with Koch Media to bring us this superstar simulation. Let's Sing in...Let's Sing 2021 A music simulator is a fairly straight-forward genre, you sing, a microphone picks up your voice and then a bar shows you what pitch you're singing at and what you actually need to be hitting. A score keeps track of your accuracy and how well you've stuck to that pitch. So does Let's Sing 2021 hit the high notes? Let's find out! Gameplay As most karaoke games do, Let's Sing 2021 has several different game modes. The most notable being Classic in which you choose a song and sing to try for a diamond record. T...

The Falconeer Review – Sky Of Thieves…

The Falconeer is the debut title from Tomas Sala, an independent Dutch developer. Published by Wired Productions and launching for the Xbox Series X. The Falconeer is an open-world, flight game. You wouldn't be remiss to note the style is of course similar to Xbox's own Sea of Thieves, only instead of a boat you have a mighty falcon! This is one of the few games landing on the Xbox Series X that isn't on Game Pass. Fortunately though it's unique enough to not have been buried and also lands at a respectable £24.99 RRP. Currently it is exclusive to Microsoft and at this stage it's not clear whether or not there are plans for a PlayStation or Switch launch in the future. The Falconeer - The next generation takes flight... Admittedly The Falconeer was not on my radar until quite clos...

Fuser Review – Rhythm Revitalised

If you've been looking for something to fill the hole left by the beloved rhythm game-era of titles like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, you're going to love Fuser. Developed by Harmonix and published by NCSoft, Fuser is a creative musical outlet that makes the art of deejaying available to everyone. This Fuser review is going to take a deep dive into a fun, fresh and vibrant game that's breathing new life into a much-missed genre of gameplay. Fuser Review - What's All The Noise About? I found Fuser to be a lot more enjoyable than I was first expecting. I also found it to be creatively challenging, but I'd love to hear what you think if you've had the chance to play it. Don't forget to let us know your thoughts in the comments below! As always, you can catch up with me and the rest of the Thu...

Xbox Game Pass – What Is The So-Called “Best Deal In Gaming”?

Xbox Game Pass is branded by Microsoft as the "best deal in gaming". I personally believe they've earned that title. In fact, it's become almost a parody at this stage how much we, at Thumb Culture, love Xbox Game Pass. Not only does it provide a lot of content at an affordable price, but it also delivers it across multiple platforms. Originally announced, rather unceremoniously via an Xbox blog post, it was immediately apparent that it was going to be a good deal for gamers. The service has grown a lot since those days, and is talked about weekly by media and gamers at large. This is thanks to the regular updates and content provided by Xbox and their partners. What is it? Xbox Game Pass is a subscription model; just like Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime. It offers a list of games t...

Colourblind and Gaming

I first discovered I was colourblind at the age of 7 while in class at primary school, looking at a chalkboard and struggling to read the yellow writing. After this incident, I went to have my eyes checked and sure enough, I was diagnosed as colourblind. In this post, I'm going to be looking at what it's like being colourblind and being a gamer. What is ColourBlindness? Colourblindness affects 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women. Until recently, I had believed that colourblindness only affected men. This was the common belief when I was growing up. But we now know that even though it is a lot less common for women, they can also suffer from this type of visual impairment. The classic colourblindness test can be carried out using Ishihara plates. If you can’t see the number 3, then you’re pro...

Tetris Effect: Connected – Not That Effective…

Tetris Effect: Connected is the follow-up to Tetris Effect. It's actually mostly the same game, only with the addition of all-new co-op and competitive online modes. These modes can also be played locally and are probably where the game really excels. If you're reading this, heck if you're human then you'll know what Tetris is. If you don't know what Tetris is then there's likely a whole lot more to this planet that you've never seen. I'll pause here a moment to let you go learn about things like the sun, air, trees and sandwiches. Now that we're sure you know what Tetris is, what makes Tetris Effect: Connected different? The whole shtick of the game is that it's Tetris with moods. As you manipulate the tetrominos on-screen they'll influence the beat, and the surroundings to help en...
