Pokémon Brilliant Diamond Review

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, from developers ILCA for Nintendo, was released in November as the latest Pokémon remake. The original game has always had mixed responses from fans. The pixel art was a thing of beauty, but the Gen4 dex was underwhelming. Still, there was plenty of excitement at another Pokémon getting remade to modern standards for the Nintendo Switch. Remakes of classic games are a tricky thing – do you just update the graphics, or do you also make some little improvements to the general gameplay and story? We saw with Lets Go! Pikachu/Eevee that the update in graphics was wonderful. Seeing wild Pokémon walking around instead of random spawns was an upgrade I never knew I needed. The mechanics like throwing a ball to catch a Pokémon though became quite tedious and the old-s...

Fantasy Town Regional Manager Review

Fantasy Town Regional Manager (FTRM) is a town builder sim developed and published by Caps Collective. Caps Collective are an Australian company with FTRM as their debut game available now on PC. I quickly learned that the title hits the nail on the head as a description. The game begins with you as the unwitting person in charge of building a town on the ruins of the old. Set in a fantasy world, the town and people are plagued by various monsters and potential disasters. As your town expands however you will gather more residents and adventurers to avert these disasters. Each day brings new challenges and so new choices from focussing resources to diplomatic decisions with the goal of literally avoiding ruin. Though it's currently only available on Steam, it is possible that the game may eventually release on mobile and Switch as well similar to Despotism 3k. Despot's Game of Puny Human Carnage If you enjoy this review, be sure to check out my other reviews here. I haven't played Konfa Games' previous game, Despotism 3k, but just comparing screenshots to Despot's Game I'd take a wild guess that the two are related. Both seem to relate to the spurn toward hum...

Red Ronin Review

Red Ronin is a tactical turn-based slash and dash game (try saying that ten times) from Brazilian developer Thiago Oliveira and Wired Dreams Studio. Initially released on PC in 2020, the bloodthirsty Samurai is back! Catch her if you can on PlayStation, Xbox One/Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Keep Ronin, Ronin, Ronin I'm reviewing Red Ronin on Nintendo Switch, mainly handheld, which feels like a great match for a game that lets you dip in and out with ease. With its bloody pixel art and brutal challenges, Red Ronin has major Hotline Miami vibes. If you've yet to play the Hotline series, you can check out our review of the cult collection here. If you're excited to give Red Ronin a spin, give us a shout in the comments below. Played the original PC version? Let us know how you think it co...

Ghostrunner Review

Ghostrunner has received its PS5 and Xbox Series X release taking the originally released game to new heights.  Developed by One More Level, Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms, this cyberpunk parkour-samurai-ninja foray looks stunning.  With so much history steeped into the development companies, I was excited to get my PS5 switched on so I could get going! Encased Review

Encased has officially broken out of Early Access as of September 7th, 2021. It can be found on Steam and Epic as well as GOG. The game is a single-player tactical sci-fi RPG that is set in an alternative timeline of the 1970's, after the Cold War. Encased began as a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017 for developer Dark Crystal Games and is published by Prime Matter (Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Outward, Kingdom Come: Deliverance). Explore the Dome in Encased I wasn't entirely certain what to expect from Encased when I first took a look at it. I don't have a whole lot of experience with turn-based combat or tactical games such as XCOM or Gears Tactics. What I do love is games that make your choices matter and offer alternative endings and gameplay based on those choices. So I was pleasant...
