Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition Review

Welcome to my review of the Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition PlayStation 4 version, played on the PlayStation 5. This game is brought to us by developers Snapshot Games (Chaos Reborn) and publishers Prime Matter (Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Kings Bounty II). Snapshot games is founded by Julian Gollop, who is known for being the creator of the legendary series of X-COM games, and David Kaye who is known for being a co-founder of Iron Realms Entertainment (Lusternia, Aetolia). Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition is a turn-based strategy RPG game. Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition Proves It's Not All About X-COM So with two big hitters in the gaming industry behind Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition, can it hit as hard as some of the X-COM games have done in the past? Continue reading to find out. You...

Encased Review

Encased has officially broken out of Early Access as of September 7th, 2021. It can be found on Steam and Epic as well as GOG. The game is a single-player tactical sci-fi RPG that is set in an alternative timeline of the 1970's, after the Cold War. Encased began as a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017 for developer Dark Crystal Games and is published by Prime Matter (Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Outward, Kingdom Come: Deliverance). Explore the Dome in Encased I wasn't entirely certain what to expect from Encased when I first took a look at it. I don't have a whole lot of experience with turn-based combat or tactical games such as XCOM or Gears Tactics. What I do love is games that make your choices matter and offer alternative endings and gameplay based on those choices. So I was pleasant...

Dustwind – Xbox One Review

Developed and published Dustwind Studios. Dustwind is a post-apocalyptic tactical strategy game. There are so many video games out there now that are set in a post-apocalyptic world. Will this be just another copy and paste of all the rest or will there be some surprises up its sleeve. Let's find out in the Dustwind Xbox One Review. Dustwind - Played One Played Them All Now years ago whenever there was a release of a tactical strategy game. I always got excited to play it but lately there just seems to be so many of them knocking about. Is there really any more room for these types of games anymore. Well, let's find out if Dustwind falls into the category of just another mediocre RTS game. As usual, if you enjoyed this review then why not check out my latest one here. You can also che...

Deflection Review

Deflection, by one-man indie studio Coreffect Interactive, is a turn-based chess game with a rather neat strategic twist. Featuring laser turrets and pieces that can alter the way that the laser distributes across the board it is up to you to destroy your opponent's King. Deflection - Laser-Guided Turn-Based Fun With its roots in the abstract game of Khet, will Deflection be a nod to the classic or a portal to travesty? Read on! Gameplay When I was a lot younger than I am now I can fondly remember spending a lot of time playing Laser Chess on the Atari ST.  Although the gameplay back then was a top-down 2d version, the concept was the same as Deflection. Against an AI, local or online user, you battle it out on the game board with the sole goal to defeat your opponent's King.  Takin...

Islanders Console Edition Review

Today I bring you my review of one of the latest indie games to hit the PlayStation 5, Islanders Console Edition. This game was originally released on PC in April 2019 under the name of Islanders. It's brought to us by developers and self-publishers GrizzlyGames, who you may know from another hit game of theirs, Superflight. Islanders - More Relaxed Than Chuck Noland Sunbathing At Home The idea of Islanders Console Edition is for the player to build up a civilisation on procedurally-generated islands. Can I gain enough points to progress to the next island? or will I be throwing my beach ball into the sea? Continue reading to find out. Check out my previous review here where I played the retro-inspired shooter, KUR. Gameplay At first, we choose which game mode we want to play. High Sco...

Deadly Days Review

Deadly Days has now launched on consoles following arriving on Steam towards the end of 2019. Developed by Pixel Split and published by Assemble Entertainment comes this Retro-inspired Zombie title. In Deadly Days Never Trust a MKing Burger For those that are unaware Deadly Days is a semi Strategic and Semi Roguelike Zombie game. The difference with this one is you actually get an explanation as to why the outbreak started. Gameplay The opening to the game gives you the background as to what has happened. Famous burger chain MKing has released a brand new burger, containing a secret "addictive" ingredient (with a view obviously to increase sales and profits - as with most evil cooperations) The side effect of this addictive ingredient is that it makes it really...REALLY addictive. Black Book Review

Black Book is a deck-based action-adventure title that also has a whole load of other stuff thrown in. Developed by Morteshka and published by Hype Train Digital and designed by Vladimir Beletsky, there is nothing to not like about the visuals of this title. Initially released in May 2020, Black Book is available across most platforms including macOS. Black Book - The Sealed Book That Holds The Answers I have been playing many titles that I wouldn't usually pick up lately. This has been broadening what I play and what I look out for in a game. Black Book stood out to me due to the beautiful environments along with what I can only describe as a fairly dark storyline. Check out my previous review here. Gameplay Black Book is a deck-building adventure RPG detective title. That's right all...

Patron is a survival city builder with a unique social dynamics system. Gather and produce resources, build your fledgling village into a prosperous city “Had I been present at the Creation, I would have given some useful hints for the better ordering of the universe.” Can I survive the challenges Patron throws at me?
