Sea of Thieves Review – The Seas Have Calmed

It has been a whilesince Rare’s swashbuckling title, Sea of Thieves launched. A highly anticipated title with many players, including myself being desperate to jump into the salty seas. However, to point out again, it has been a while since Sea of Thieves launched, and I feel it’s a good time to see how the game plays now that the tide of excitement has lowered. I saw Sea of Thieves grow from way back in the early months of 2017. Playtests had just got started in fact. I think I was the second wave of players to get accepted, but I didn’t get to play much. I knew from my short time with it though, that it was something nice and that the community was excited amongst one another in the private forums. February 2018 saw more playtests taking place as the game grew closer to launch,...

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Review – Stack Rats on Rats on Rats

Using fire, axes, bows, and a healthy dose of name calling wage an all out battle against the forces of both rats and evil northmen in Warhammer: Vermintide 2. Fatshark released Warhammer: End Times-Vermintide through Steam in 2015 amongst positive reviews. Following the familiar structure of Left4Dead it introduced us to the world of Warhammer and how much fun bashing in hordes of rat people can be. On March 8, 2018 they brought us Warhammer: Vermintide 2 for the PC to my excitement. Now after a month since release let’s see how it’s holding up.   Gameplay Verminide 2 doesn’t change the future of co-op gaming. But man does it improve upon it. You start in a tutorial as Markus Kruber, one of the five classes to play in this game, who has been captured and placed into a cag...

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 Review – B*Witched, B*Killing, B*Happy

Nippon Ichi Software bring us The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2, the sequel to this original release in 2013.  The big question is 'Have they managed to sway the indifference that met the first release?' Well I guess it's time to polish my armour, after all, after 100 years it's going to need a little TLC. Gameplay The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 tells the story of 2 sisters, Amelie and Milm. Amelie is a headstrong young girl who wants to protect her younger sister, and Milm has been possessed by an evil witch called Ckelka. You get to be the Hundred Knight and kill lots of things for them both, well all three of them if you are going to be picky. The learning curve on this game is very shallow, and anyone who has read my previous reviews will know that I am now in my element. Mo...

God of War Review – A Calmer Ghost of Sparta?

Yes, it’s that time… The Spartan himself, Kratos has returned in his first new adventure for the PS4. He's no longer happy with tormenting the gods from the Greek Mythos, he now wants to put the Norse gods in their place as well. God of War from Sony's Santa Monica Studios is one of, if not THE most anticipated PS4 Exclusive of the year. I know it’s one I’ve personally been looking forward to since it was first announced. Having collected and played every other release multiple times, it was torture when I found out the game was sat patiently at home for me while I was at work (Yes I considered going home sick just to play it... but I’m a model employee so I did my job and kept my Kratos rage at bay!) As it is always the case with the God of War series, the story starts off with a tr...

The American Dream PSVR Review – Guns for Everyone!

Who here is a fan of Gun Control? We all know how our friends across the pond feel about their 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. The American Dream allows us average Non US Citizens to peek into how wonderful their lives are because of it. The American Dream is the latest release from Samurai Punk (an awesome name if I do say so myself!) and is a Rail style FPS with a twist, taking the idea of Guns being a tool in the home and then replacing every other tool in the home with a type of gun as though it was completely normal (even the cutlery!). The big question now… Is The American Dream a Crack shot title, or firing wide of the mark? Let’s find out… Gameplay It’s pretty hard to spoil any story points in The American Dream as is the case with most rail shooters in my experience...
Double Kick Heroes Preview – Proper Death Metal

Double Kick Heroes Preview – Proper Death Metal

Double Kick Heroes by French based developer Headbang Club who reside in a "dark garage filled with guitars, drums and beer corpses" located in "Hell's 6th circle" is a side scrolling zombie splattering game where Rock music is your key to your escape.  Inspired by the dramatic worlds of Tarantino, King and Rodriguez, it is up to you to lead your dysfunctional band of rock musicians on a nightmarish roadtrip across the map while dismembering hordes of zombies that chase after your exclusively modded car, the Gundillac. Gameplay My initial thoughts when I first saw Double Kick Heroes was "Noooooo, not another pixel based game!" Having seen the strange popularity of the low-res graphic genre rise and rise since the introduction of Minecraft, many devs have adopted the blocky imagery wh...

Attack on Titan 2 Review – Big Naked Ladies…..

There is a point when you start playing a new game when everything falls into place and you accept  whatever powers, abilities or back story your character has as your new reality. With Attack on Titan 2 that moment came when I found myself tethered to a 50 foot tall naked giant woman, angrily swinging blades that wouldn’t look out of place in a piece of industrial machinery. Full disclosure here, I haven’t played the original game, or seen the Anime or read the Manga. I know what these things are and can appreciate them for their style and artwork, but I honestly didn’t know what this was all about until I started playing Attack on Titan 2. The game does a very good job of bringing you up to speed on what has happened. Attack on Titan 2 is made by Koei Tecmo and is released on March 20...

Assault Gunners HD Review – Not Quite There

Mechs and robots are always cool but is this Super Gundam Destiny amazing or Michael Bay what am I watching terrible? Mech games are always pretty niche in the west and the fact you’ve likely never heard of Assault Gunners in the first place is testament to this. Originally released on the PsVita in Japan back in 2012 and never localised, Assault Gunners has now been ported to PC and in this review the PS4 with new HD graphics and a lot of DLC. These days you’ll struggle to find much passion for the mecha genre outside of Gundam games and it feels like Assault Gunners HD is trying to fill that gap in the market. The rush from piloting a giant hulking machine as you blast others and collect items to upgrade is an itch that recent Mech games haven’t managed to scratch. It’s just a shame t...

Yakuza: Going Back to Move Forward?

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays, and enjoying a good start to 2018. With Yakuza 6 due out in March, I decided that my Christmas play-through this year was going to be Yakuza Zero. A game which id been dying to play all year but never quite found the time (as I have been a fan of the series since I first played it back on PS2). Well, I finally finished it, and upon discussing it with a few friends I found that the same question kept being asked… ‘Should I play the others on previous-gen consoles?’ Since it’s a question I have been asked by a number of people, I thought I’d put my opinions out there for all in the hope that it helps. It doesn’t look like we're going to be getting a Kiwami 2 (remake of the 2nd game) here in the west, and the price tag of the original western release ...

L.A. Noire Remastered Review – Unneeded But Welcomed

So before we dive into Team Bondi (now defunct) and Rockstar Games' remaster of L.A. Noire, let's set out the stall for this review. I am going to be writing this from the perspective of a new review. Some of you may not have played the original, so therefore it doesn't seem right to pass judgement on the remastered side of the game. All it really means is that there are prettier visuals than its original counterpart, honest. So what is L.A. Noire? What do you do? Why was it so groundbreaking? Let's find out! Gameplay L.A. Noire is set in 1947 in Los Angeles, USA, and lets the player control an LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) officer by the name of Cole Phelps. You take control of him as he moves up the ranks within the LAPD through five divisions, including homicide and arson among...
