F1 2020 Review – Pole Position

It’s that time of year again when Codemasters releases their annual foray into the motor racing league that is Formula 1. F1 2020 comes at you with an abundance of new elements and even a totally new game mode for you to get stuck into. This year, however, we have an interesting situation where the game is actually released close to the start of the season, albeit a delayed start to the season due to the current pandemic sweeping the globe. So how does F1 2020 compare to all the previous iterations, does it leave the others behind, or does it get a bit of a bogged down start? Let's read on and find out. Gameplay F1 2020 returns with a bit of a double-headed update this year. On one hand, we have a great new feel on track due to the updated cars and on the other a bit of a bitter taste...

The Last Of Us Part II Review – Don’t Get Left Behind On This One…

When Naughty Dog announced they were making a sequel to the PlayStation 3 system seller The Last Of Us I was incredibly dubious. Even with the beautiful trailers and game footage leading up to the release of The Last Of Us Part II I couldn’t help but feel that I wanted the story and characters of this world left alone and for them to instead produce a new IP. In this review I avoid discussing the story and focus on the key elements; as such it is as spoiler-free as I could get it but does allude to some of the elements that make up the game. The Last Of Us Part II has some big boots to fill with its predecessor arguably being the best game of the last generation and an excellent swan song to the PlayStation 3. After 4 years of teasers and footage, Part II is finally here, 7 years after ...

Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade Review – Quarter Cruncher Supreme

The Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade features a series of arcade releases of the immensely popular shoot-em-up franchise. Often touted as one of the pioneers of the genre, Darius was unique in that its cabinets used three screens to create a longer visual range on which to play the game. Having a triple screen set up made for a very wide and eye-catching cabinet. Unfortunately, my local arcade growing up didn't have the funds to acquire such a machine. First released in 1987 by Taito Corporation, Darius set a high standard for Shmups(Shoot-Em-Ups). This is the second of two collections released for the Darius Franchise. I'm taking a look at the collection of Arcade releases on the Playstation 4, whereas the review for the Console collection can be found Here. Gameplay Darius Cozmic Collec...

Darius Cozmic Collection Console Review – Unforgiving, Relentless Fun!

In the current generation of gaming, we are no stranger to a remaster or a remake of previously popular games. This isn’t too dissimilar from the early days, where companies would port their popular arcade games (remember those?) to home consoles to bring the experience into your bedroom and milk you for some more of your hard-earned pocket money. Some of those coin-op conversions were a little bit, shall we say…shaky (I’m looking at you Pac-Man for the Atari 2600). Thankfully, Darius is not one of those game series. Darius started life out as your typical coin guzzling side-scrolling shoot ‘em up developed and published by Taito in 1987, but what set this apart from regular “shmups” was the non-linear level design and multiple endings (if you ever got there). The Darius Cozmic Coll...

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom – Re-hydrated Review – Fun Sponge

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, originally released way back in 2003, was that rare beast; a licensed title which delivered both in terms of quality and adherence to the source material. The colourful 3D platformer brought over everything which was great about the first three seasons of SpongeBob, including the various exotic undersea locales and the crazy characters which inhabit them. In spite of mixed reviews from the critics, fans were besotted, and it sold so well that it was added to the classic ranges for Gamecube, Xbox and PS2. Publisher THQ Nordic is in the business of fishing up quality properties from yesteryear, and they are now ready to unleash Purple Lamp Studios port (hoho), SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom - Re-hydrated upon the world. Is...

Those Who Remain Review – Worth Sticking Around For?

When I heard there was a game coming out called Those Who Remain I was concerned that somebody had done the unthinkable and made a game about Brexit. Fortunately that was not the case. Developed by Camel 101 and published by Wired Productions Those Who Remain is the latest entry into the crowded horror/survival game genre. It is described as "an up close psychological horror set in the sleepy town of Dormant. (where you)Confront uncomfortable horrors, keep your sanity in check and survive the night." So is Those Who Remain an exciting, groundbreaking new entry into a crowded genre? Read on and find out. Gameplay Those Who Remain sees you playing as Edward, your stereotypical mentally tortured horror game protagonist. You join him as he sits at his desk contemplating taking his own li...

Saints Row: The Third Remastered Review- Saint or Sinner?

Remastered versions of the previous generation's classic games are all the vogue at the moment. Some welcome, some not so. It seems as if developers are holding back the brand new games for the much anticipated new generation of consoles (although the current Covid-19 pandemic has not helped!). The next game hot off the remastered production line is Saints Row: The Third Remastered. Published by Deep Silver and developed by Volition the much-loved game first released in 2011 gets a makeover for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Having played the game the first time around on my PS3 I was keen to revisit Steelport and see if it was still fun to rampage around the city in a crazy costume wielding the legendary Dildo Bat (no that isn't a typo!). Read on to find out how I got on. Gameplay If you...

Pixel Ripped 1995 PSVR Review – Party Like It’s 1995!

For many of us, the 90s were the best times of our lives. I remember the excitement of receiving a new game for Christmas and playing it endlessly. Trials Of Mana Review – The Mana Comes Around

Legendary RPG developers Square released Secret of Mana released on the Super Nintendo in 1993. While considered by many to be an RPG classic, disappointing sales led to its sequel, known in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 3, never being localised for English-speaking audiences. Fans have made valiant efforts to translate the fairly substantial script but until very recently the game has not been widely available to Western audiences who weren't cool with emulation. This has all changed with the release of Collection of Mana, a compilation of the original trilogy of games, in which Seiken Densetsu 3 was renamed Trials of Mana. Now a fully 3D Trials of Mana is here to satisfy those with a hankering for the polygonal. It released on Switch, Playstation 4 and Microsoft Windows on April 24 2020, with...

Gigantosaurus: The Game Review – Roarsome Fun!

Gigantosaurus: The Game developed by Wildsphere and published by OutRight Games is a fun, family-friendly game set in the prehistoric world of the Gigantosaurus cartoon found over on the Disney channel.  The dino tale is a mixture of part saving the world and part super race and features four playable dinos; Rocky, Tiny, Mazu and Bill who each have their own special ability. Gameplay Before I go on I must say this.  Gigantosaurus is for young children.  From the opening animated scene, you will able to tell from the slow rhyming narrative that what lies before you will not be the hardest of challenges for you, but for younger people, you may need to offer some assistance on occasion. Gigantosaurus feels and plays a little like Spyro as you run around the cartoony map littered with...
