Persona 5 Royal Review – Takes Your Time, Takes Your Heart

Atlus' Persona 5 released on Playstation 3 and 4 in 2016 to widespread acclaim. Fans of the J-RPG genre loved the lengthy story, in-depth character relationships and action-stealth exploration and critics were into it too. Persona 5 Royal is an upgraded, even more content-rich edition of the original title. There is a lot to explain, and I hope to make this review accessible for those like myself who do not have a degree in Shin Megami Tensei lore. Persona 5 Royal can be purchased digitally for £49.99. In Persona 5 Royal you play as *name of your choice* (we'll call him Phil from now on), a nerdy looking fellow who got chucked in the sin bin for using his fists to stop a powerful man from carrying out a rape. Phil is a good lad, but has been forced to transfer across the country to a ne...

Resident Evil 3 Review – Bloody Brilliant!

News footage infests the television showing chaos from around the world. A disease. An infection. The brain dead roam the desolate streets hunting for food. Yes, the Coronavirus has really done a number on us. In order to escape this horrid reality, the majority of us turn to the virtual world. Here we can lose ourselves in a universe far different than our own. Lurching on to the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC on April 3rd is Resident Evil 3, a remake of the 1999 classic which shares more than a few similarities to our current predicament. Capcom reinvigorated the Resident Evil franchise with the horrifyingly terrific Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. In a landmark move for the franchise, Capcom transformed the game from a sub-par action-orientated horror game (Sorry Resi 6) to a dark, tw...

Wales Interactive is slowly becoming the ‘go-to’ company for narrative-driven games. They reignited the FMV, interactive film genre with fantastic games such as The Bunker and Late Shift. Dr Amy Tenant, the lead scientist at Nanocell Technology, is somehow connected to the blood-vomiting event that is being circulated in the media. Due to a string of events, she finds herself trapped inside a laboratory deep in the depths of London. With little time and air, will you be able to connect the dots and make the right decisions to uncover the secret that ties the events together? Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun Retro Brawler Bundle Review – DNR?

Wow, well here is a blast from the past!  Thanks to devs Arc System Works, you are now able to play nearly every Double Dragon and Kunio-Kun vintage game as well as a few others taking you right back to the '80s and '90s!  So basically the era when I was a carefree child regularly playing on my Atari St with my dad and my neighbourhood friends.  It's time to don those garish Bermuda short and T-shirt combos, strike up a bit of jive bunny and the master mixers and go back in time with the Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun Retro Brawler Bundle. Gameplay Do you love 8-bit side scrollers, kicking and punching your way through levels, defeating big bosses and also having the option to play with a mate both offline and on some titles up to 4 players online? TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2 Review – High Speed Fun

Racing returns to the Snaefell Mountain course in TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2. Published by Bigben Interactive and developed by Kylotonn Racing Games, we take back to the track and build on the previous title that we reviewed here. Gameplay Without delay, let's dive straight into the gameplay section, and in essence, the main mechanics are pretty similar to the previous iteration. TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2 is a street racing game, however, it has a big difference. The main game is centred about the looooong track on the Isle of Man. For those of you that have watched this on TV then you will know that the speeds these riders get up to is astounding. The game is no different, the sense of speed as you are bouncing off the limiter is super impressive. So what else can...

Doom Eternal Review – In League With Satan

Let's face it, Doom Eternal needs no introduction. It's the latest release in the genre-defining series, and after Doom (2016) ran in, punched a big hole in our chest, and tore our hearts out, fans have been eagerly awaiting more. For those of our readers who have no idea what I'm talking about, the original Doom revolutionised first-person shooters way back in 1993. Developer ID Software took everything they learnt for their previous title, Wolfenstein 3D, and turned it up to 11. It's a frantic, unrelenting game, which pits you against the toughest S.O.B's Hell has to offer. ID Software have always shown great reverence when it comes to Doom. It's a game that has been ported to everything (even calculators), but when it comes to sequels, there's only a small handful. As such, when a...

Rugby 20 Review – A good Try?

Just in time for the 2020 Six Nations comes Rugby 20 from Developers Eko Software and publishers BigBen Interactive. Rugby has been poorly served by the video game industry over the years although to be fair it is not the easiest game to convert to the pixel format. However, given that both American Football and Baseball have seen successful sims in recent years it shouldn't too hard to cater to those ardent egg chasers out there should it? Rugby 20 is the latest edition to a franchise which appears to be operating on a biannual basis. Rugby 18 was not particularly well received by critics and players so can Rugby 20 finally be the game to break the mould. Read on and find out. Gameplay One of the biggest issues I have with Rugby 20 is the lack of depth in the game modes. There is y...

Two Point Hospital Review – I’ve Got A Bad Case Of Lovin’ You

Back in the 90s, Bullfrog Productions were on top, creating hits, and making tidal waves with their Theme series. The first title Theme Park went on to receive countless rereleases, and multiple sequels. However, it's spiritual successor Theme Hospital remained a cult classic, and only ever received a smattering of ports. For years, fans have clamoured for a new entry, and whilst there's been pretenders, nothing has lived up to the heights set back in 1997. Until now. Two Point Hospital, created by Two Point Studios, is the sequel we always wanted. When the game's development is lead by Mark Webley and Gary Carr, two gentlemen responsible for the creation and direction of Theme Hospital, you can be sure it's worth booking an appointment. Originally released on PC in August 2018, Two ...

Overpass Review – Mud, Glorious Mspoud!

Every time I hear the word off-road I immediately think of the Off-Roaders from the Fast Show (showing my age again) and mud. Lots of mud. This winter has provided lots of the latter and the prospect of reviewing an Off Road game sounded a bit like my daily drive to work at the moment. Overpass has been billed by Swedish developers Zordix AB and publishers BigBen Interactive as unique in its genre offering a realistic take on off-road driving with over 20 officially licensed quads and buggies to be driven over technical obstacles along wilderness tracks. So does Overpass deliver on the dev's promise? Well, as they said in the Fast Show "Lets off-road"!   Gameplay The opening menu offers four basic game modes - Quick race, Career, Custom challenge and Multiplayer. Quick race i...

Hunt: Showdown Review – Spine Chilling Evilness

Is it safe to come out now?  For the last few days, I have been playing a multiplayer survival horror called Hunt: Showdown by Crytek on the PS4 and boy have I jumped out of my seat a few times in the process! Gameplay In a nutshell, Hunt: Showdown is what would happen if you blended Van Helsing, The Walking Dead and elements of The Darkzone from The Division into one and mixed them with some 1895 Louisiana inspired countryside. Your core mission is to play as a hunter and track down mysterious bounties either by yourself, in a duo, or even a trio by investigating areas in your world that emit a strange glow that can only be seen while using a mysterious energy called Dark Sight.  For every bounty there are 3 locations in the world that you need to explore that contain a pile of e...
