CTR: Nitro Fueled Incense Burner & Other Merchandise

With the current frenzy of fast paced Karting action currently occupying (almost) everyone’s gaming consoles, the guys over at Numskull have released a whole host of collectable merchandise and goodies that will turn any man-cave into a CTR shrine, and they were kind enough to send us here at Thumb Culture a few pieces to have a look at. The Peace de la resistance among this selection is the Incense Burner, following on from the trend that started back with Spyro, we have a wonderfully detailed version of Crash sat in his ‘Team Bandicoot’ Kart ready to burn off the line and get him some of that Wumpa fruit! At approx. 20cm long, 17cm wide and 14cm high, Crash is a fairly large statue for an Incense Burner, but that is to be expected considering it’s a Kart, and I think it fits qu...

Night Call PC Review

Night Call PC Review Night Call is a narrative-driven Investigation game developed by Monkey Moon and Black Muffin and published by Raw Fury. The game is set to be released on PC today (17th July 2019), with plans to release on console towards the end of the year. From the moment the opening credits rolled I fell in love with the black and white hand-drawn graphics, as the taxicab drove down the street and the assault takes place, I felt like I was watching a 1950’s movie. You have the choice of 3 cases to choose from, the outcome of which and the fares that you pick up will be random. After the assault, You wake up to the sound of a doctor’s voice, who explains that you’ve been in an induced coma for the last 2 weeks after you were attacked ( the method of attack differs, depe...

Gaming and Epilepsy

More and more people are getting diagnosed with Epilepsy, yet there isn’t much awareness surrounding it – Especially when it comes to gaming! The Facts: In the UK alone there are circa 600,000 living with Epilepsy Around 87 people are diagnosed on a daily basis. Approximately 1,000 people die every year with around half of these been related to a sudden unexpected death in Epilepsy (also known as SUDEP) Photosensitive Epilepsy affects roughly 3% which is seizures triggered by flashing and/or flickering lights What is shocking is the fact that not many people are even remotely aware of the above or how serious Epilepsy can be. The effects it has on life alone, never mind the seizures can be extremely difficult to live with. For many people with Epilepsy gaming is a ...

Steel Division II PC Review – World War II Rolls Heavy Into Town

Steel Division II is the highly anticipated sequel to Steel Division: Normandy '44. A few months ago, I had the pleasure of trying out the Steel Division II beta test and let me tell you; I didn't think they were going to be able to improve the game. To my surprise, they sure did. If you haven't read my previous write-up Steel Division II by Eugen Systems is a real-time strategy game, set on the eastern front during World War II. It was released on June 20th, 2019 on Steam. Without further delay, let's jump in and check out the new additions since the beta preview. Gameplay One of the most significant additions to Steel Division II from its predecessor is the Army General mode. Featuring four separate campaigns from Operation Bagration, your goal is to advance and capture each majo...

Judgment PS4 Review – Fists of Justice?

Judgment is the latest release from Ryu ga Gotoku Studios & Sega, the teams that created the well-loved Yakuza series. Judgment is being called the spiritual successor to Yakuza as its set in the same fictional Japanese Red-Light District of Kamurocho. But, it's set after the conclusion of the Kiryu Saga. As a fan of the Yakuza series, I was both excited and a little nervous about getting my hands on Judgment and seeing what might be contained within… Gameplay Players take on the role of former Lawyer turned Detective Takayuki Yagami. Weighed down by the knowledge that he was responsible for the acquittal of a Murder suspect who then killed his own girlfriend. Yagami is entangled in a case where his former employer is defending a Yakuza charged with murder and thus our story un...

My Friend Pedro PC Review – Bananas In Gun Holsters

My Friend Pedro is a side-scrolling action shoot 'em up game developed by DeadToast Entertainment and published by Devolver Digital. The game was released on the 20th June and is currently available on the PC & Nintendo Switch. Let's start by saying if you haven’t seen the launch trailer for this game, then you need to see it RIGHT NOW as its hilarious. Click the link below and come back here when ready. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyahBxUAYbs What’s funnier than a talking banana telling you how to cook, and what’s cooler than a fast-paced protagonist on a rampage of gun shooting, knife throwing and using a…frying pan? Yes, that’s what I said. So with that being said, let’s matrix-style “slow-mo” dive right in and see why there has been a lot of interest in this game. &...

Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled PS4 Review – Woobeega!

Well, it is finally here! after all the hype and excitement I finally got hold of a copy of Activision's Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled (referred to herein as CTRNF.) Having not played it for many many years since its original form on the PS1, it is scary to think that when CTR originally came out I was 19, young, free and playing the field, with no real responsibilities, and here I am age 38 with a wife, mortgage and 4 kids, how times change!  The Crash Bandicoot franchise seems very much alive since the successful launch of the N'sane Trilogy, how will this blend of Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Tag Team Racing work out?  Will dev Beenox be able to resurrect the nostalgia? Gameplay Ok, let's cut to the chase.  The real reason you are probably reading this is to see ...

F1 2019 PS4 Review – Rise of a Legend

Codemasters have returned with the latest instalment of the F1 franchise and this year they have released F1 2019 earlier than usual. A Whole 2 months earlier than F1 2018. So why should you part with your hard earned money and purchase this game, only a whole 10 months after you probably bought last years? Let's Find Out! Gameplay Rather than going into the game telling you that it's a racing game, the best thing to do is to let you know what has changed in F1 2019. So the first thing that you will come across is the new F2 feeder series scenarios at the start of the career mode. This is a great way to introduce you to a couple of new characters that will pop up throughout your career. However this Feeder series is skippable, but its a great introduction into the game itself. U...

Home Sweet Home Ps4 Review – Hide and Seek and Scream

Is it safe to come out now?  For the last couple of weeks I have been playing through Yggdrazil Group's first-person horror/puzzle game Home Sweet Home, and those that know me will remember how easily I can jump when playing games of this nature! Gameplay With elements taken from Thai folklore which indeed adds to the story and atmosphere, you are fooled into thinking this is another typical horror game when you wake up in a room as a guy called Tim who has no memory as to how he got there but is aware that he has a family that he needs to find. With the basic scenario set out, you begin your single player mission to walk about the rooms and hallways of the building looking for answers.  It does not take that long to come across strange goings-on when you see out of the corner of your...

Project Nimbus: Complete Edition – Nintendo Switch Review – Mecha-fight!

Allow me to preface this review by saying that I am a huge fan of mecha, in both anime and video game form. For those of you who don't know what mecha are, they're giant robot battle suits. Examples include Gundams, Xenogears, Armored Cores, Battlemechs, etc.  Sometimes they're very fast-moving, while others they're just huge bipedal tanks that shoot lasers. When given a chance to check out Project Nimbus: Complete Edition on the Nintendo Switch, I couldn't wait to get into it. Developed by GameCrafterTeam and published by GameTomo for PC and Mac first, then ported to Switch, Project Nimbus: Complete Edition promised high-speed mecha dogfighting. Let's dive in and find out how well it delivered. Gameplay Project Nimbus: Complete Edition is a high-speed aerial mecha combat game. Featu...
