Strange Brigade: The Thrice Damned DLC Review – Continuing The Chaos

As you may know, I absolutely loved the Strange Brigade main game, check out the review here. So it was only natural that the latest DLC The Thrice Damned would be right up my street? Right? Lets take a look. Whats New So essentially we join up with the Strange Brigade in The Thrice Damned, a separate story to the main game that thankfully doesnt give you any spoilers as to what happens during your main jaunt into the unknown. Having played through the first two episodes of the The Thrice Damned, Isle Of The Dead and Sunken Kingdom, before we get to the end I thought it was best that I get my thoughts on paper before the third instalment is released this month. So what does The Thrice Damned bring to the party...well a couple of new characters, Tessie Caldwell and Hachiro Shimuz...

Call of Cthulhu Review – Afraid of the Light

Cyanide Studios brings us Call of Cthulhu, a new version based on the classic role playing game based on the works of H.P.Lovecraft. Where would we be if we didn't have things to base new stuff on? Time to set everything up and play with the lights on, definitely hoping that the atmosphere is good. Just need to pop into my time machine. Gameplay Call of Cthulhu is set in 1924 when everything is a bit more basic. No advanced technology to get to grips with, just an old lighter to help you see. There is a mystery to be solved, and you are just the man for the job. Well being a private investigator it would fall easily within your remit. You start in your office looking around. It seems you are not a very good detective really and about to lose your funding. If only a big case would com...

GRIP: Combat Racing Review – Too Fast…TOO Fast!

Before I start going into the review for GRIP: Combat Racing, I just want to leave a gif showing how it makes you feel. Now onto the review. Gameplay In simplistic terms, GRIP: Combat Racing is a track racer, with a splattering of arena combat thrown in for good measure. Loading up the game you are greeted with the main menu, where you can get access to the campaign, single player, online and split screen elements of the game as well as the garage where you can customise your cars with decals and new colourings. Diving into the campaign, you essentially go through tiers of events designed to ease you into the game as well as challenge your skills as a racer. The further up the tier tree you get the faster and more difficult the game becomes, starting with a nice gentle pace, ev...

Castlevania Requiem PS4 Review – A Classic risen from the Dead?

Ever since I first played Castlevania Symphony of the Night back in 1997 I was hooked. I enjoyed it so much that I went back and played previous Castlevania titles on older consoles as well to make sure I hadn’t missed out on something iconic. So, it comes as no surprise when I first heard that Konami were releasing Castlevania Requiem on the PS4 and that it was going to contain ‘remastered’ versions of both Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood, I was dying to 'sink my teeth' into to it (excuse the pun). I will say that I have tried to stay away from any news of this title prior to reviewing, as I wanted to experience it completely for myself. So just bare this in mind if you read something below that has been announced previously. The only question left to ask is; what does...

Heliophobia Review – Dreams Can Become Nightmares

Here we are again. Halloween is here again, everyone digs out their horror games or treats themselves to a new one.  Luckily enough for me I got treated to a new game to enter the horror genre. Heliophobia is a game by Glass Knuckle Games and is available on Steam. Gameplay Heliophobia drops you straight into the game to give you that added sense of  mystery. This is a good start for the game and something I liked about it. Initially to me the game felt like the famous P.T demo on PlayStation as the first section completed through me back to the start. Or what I thought was the start. As I stepped out onto the stage for the first time I noticed a long line of doors marked Audition and Standby. Heliophobia instantly feels like it's going to be a long windy path filled with scares and ...

Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor Martyr Review – Bloodfest

Warhammer has always been a piece of my life.  I remember the early days of playing D&D style adventures during lunch breaks at school that culminated in epic battles using carefully painted figurines that spread across a battlefield of huge proportions in the common room.  The Warhammer club was in full swing! The Warhammer universe has made steady progression across digital platforms for many years and Neocore's latest offering, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr finally hit consoles in Summer.  For the sake of this article I am going to refer to the game simply as Martyr from now on. Are you ready to purge the unclean and protect the Imperium from corruption?  Lets get on with it! Gameplay In a first for the Warhammer 40K Universe, Martyr is branded as an open-world s...
Dakar 18 Review – The Road To Nowhere

Dakar 18 Review – The Road To Nowhere

Developed by Bigmoon Entertainment, Published by Deep Silver, and based around the Dakar Rally. For those that don’t know the Dakar Rally, it is a rally race that is an off-road endurance event. The terrain that the competitors traverse is much tougher than that used in conventional rallying, and the vehicles used are true off-road vehicles rather than modified on-road vehicles. Dakar 18  is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Gameplay As the game loads in, you are presented with a very quick, very brief training introduction in the form of your “co-navigator” shouting at you. For me, as a variety gamer, I personally struggled with this as the industry jargon was straight over my head. I persevered on, once I’d been through the brief training, into the first “tut...

The Legend of Evil Review – Evil Dresses in a Suit!

It’s ok to root for the bad guy, at least this is what Legend of Evil is telling us. Your job, as Bill, is to bring home the apocalypse, in style, with a dark legion at your disposal. Be careful though, being evil isn’t as easy as you’d expect! Gameplay Legend of Evil is a single player, side-scrolling strategy tower-offense game and comes armed with two games modes: Campaign Mode and Rogue Conquest Mode. Having played many a tower defense game, it’s a nice spin to instead be playing a tower offense game! Coupled with having a time limit, as well as it being played as a side-scroller vs. the typical top-down. It adds an incredible dimension to the genre, something that boasts very well on the Nintendo Switch. The Campaign Mode is incredibly challenging and if like me, you’re not ...

FIFA 19 Review – To Upgrade Or Not To Upgrade

With FIFA 19 it brings together a few new additions to the previous iteration, however does that mean that it's worth paying full price for this years version? Lets check out whats new this year. Gameplay Part three of The Journey brings a story from three separate angles, Alex Hunter returns, this year you are able to control both Danny Williams and Alex's Half-Sister Kim. With their storylines interchanging and intertwining you are able to switch between them at any time to see what each character is up to. This brings a great addition to the game, expanding the story to see how Alex gets on at Real Madrid, seeing what Danny gets up to once Alex leaves to go abroad and then following the hottest new talent in the Women's World Cup with Kim. FIFA 19 expands the Ultimate Team universe...

Downward Spiral: Horus Station – Its Space Jim But Not As We Know It

So here we are with Downward Spiral: Horus Station created for us by 3rd Eye Studios. Now this is a new company so it will be interesting to see what they can bring to the table. Lets see shall we? Gameplay Downward Spiral: Horus Station is essentially a VR game on PC/PSVR. It does also have controller support on the PlayStation 4 for people without PSVR. Personally, I think on a controller the game is clumsy and shouldn't be played like this, VR was forefront of the development teams minds when they created this game. The game itself doesn't give you too much help setting the scene and atmosphere. There is no narrative cut scene to set the mood. In-fact when you start off your adventure there is no help at all. Downward Spiral: Horus Station is an environmental storytelling ga...
