We Happy Few Review – Don’t Be Such A Downer

You might need some joy to enjoy this one. We Happy Few is developed by Compulsion Games and is an action, adventure game exploring a drug fuelled retro futuristic 1960s England. It is available on PC, Xbox one and PlayStation 4. I was playing on the PC version. It does contain some mature content at times meaning it did have problems being released in Australia due to some of its content. Gameplay We Happy Few is set up so no two playthroughs are alike, whilst this is good for replay-ability it’s a nightmare to review! There are three characters each have their own back story and without giving you too much information they all intertwine quite nicely however, some of the stories lack in depth compare to the main story but, this gave the game a fresh feel as you weren’t just stuck as...

Narcosis Review – Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Are you afraid of the dark…?... Narcosis is a deep sea adventure, first-person, survival, horror game that does not disappoint. Stuck on the ocean floor with nothing but a knife, surrounded by darkness, igneous, sea grass, fish and unknown ‘creatures’ brings an unknowing, tense feeling of what is to come.. But will you survive?  The game was developed and published by Honor Code, Inc. Released on 28th March 2017, and is available on PS4, Xbox one, PC and VR! The choice is yours. Gameplay Narcosis is a single player game with no multiplayer option available, but there is no need for multiplayer. The game is survival based and very strategical. It’s a game that makes you think whilst you play, planning for future events. The wrong plan will only lead to your death. All you ...

Moonlighter Review – Like Indiana Jones owned a shop.

Introduction Moonlighter is hard. There I said it. Don’t let the cute graphics, simple gameplay and cartoon violence lull you into a false sense of security. It is a real challenge to make any real progress and you will die a lot playing this game. Moonlighter is a rogue-lite, action RPG where you play as Will, a brave shopkeeper who dreams of being a hero. Published by 11bit studios and created by Digital Sun the game has two very distinct sides to it. You are both a beast slaying, sword swinging adventurer and a timid shopkeeper with dreams of becoming a hero, but it all makes sense when you play the game. The game is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Gameplay During an archaeological excavation some gates which lead to different realms and dimensions were found on the outs...

Hello Neighbor Review – Horror and stealth in your street.

Hello Neighbor is a horror stealth game from Dynamic Pixels and tiny Build and it has just been released on iOS devices and PS4, it could already be played on mobile, PC and Xbox. It is a software survival puzzle game with a really unique style. American spelling aside (neighbour has a U in it and so does colour) I turned off my spell check and got on with reviewing this beautifully weird game. Gameplay Hello Neighbor is broken down into acts and in each one the house is very different and increasingly expansive. The game launches with you as a kid in the street who witnesses something strange in his neighbor’s small suburban house. You have to use stealth cunning and puzzle-solving skills to negotiate the map and find out what that nasty neighbor was doing. Get seen or noticed by him an...

18 Floors Review – Puzzle Solving VR Stylee

For those of you who have played through this game, you’ll realise that the title of this game may be the biggest puzzle of all, but more on that later. 18 Floors is a Virtual Reality locked room puzzler from Aoga Tech (Developer) and Shanghai Wishing Entertainment Limited (Publisher). There are no spoilers in this review, but I will mention some of the gameplay method. It is available on HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift and the platform I played it on, PSVR. The one thing that everybody seems to know about this game is that the title is grossly misleading. There are 2 floors in this version and on completion it says there are more to follow. It would be easy to immediately dismiss this game as unfinished and underdeveloped just to get a Dev credit out there, but to do so would ignore the qual...

Le Tour De France Season 2018 – Review

While the rest of the country is glued to TV’s asking whether or not football really is coming home, I squeezed my ample  frame into a lycra onesie, put on my cleats and filled my water bottle with vodka and coke to play Le Tour De France Season 2018 on the PS4. Brought to us by Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive, Le Tour De France Season 2018 was released at the end of June on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Gameplay The Tour De France series of games started back in 2010 and is based on one of the world’s most iconic sporting events. It is a deep and engaging simulator which allows you to play as both an active rider and strategic manager for your team. The game allows you to play solo, in 1v1 or couch co-op as a rider and across a range of races. Tour mode allows you to play through the...

The Spectrum Retreat Review – Welcome To The Hotel Penrose, Such A Lovely Place?

Two years ago, 20-year-old game designer Dan Smith won a BAFTA in the Young Game Designers category for his prototype of what would become The Spectrum Retreat. Publisher Ripstone has stepped in to help turn the game into a fully-fledged product. It's quite an achievement for the up and coming game maker, so let’s check in and enjoy our stay, maybe? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW7HN9Pd9nU   GamePlay We have all been there at some point in our life, right? You wake up in a strange hotel room with no memory of how you got there or what happened the night before.  Just as you start thinking of an egg McMuffin, a knock appears at the door, but this isn’t the usual breakfast call. You are greeted by an android asking you personally to come down for breakfast. (Just how much did...

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker Review – You Believe Me, Don’t You?

A FMV murder mystery with a bit of a twist. Are they the insane ones? Is any of this real? Whats really going on? Thrust into a new world by the death of a doctor, can you handle the patient load as things appear to change all around you? Are you sure they are the crazy ones? D'Avekki Studios developed The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, a FMV Lovecraft mystery, back in 2017.  FMV, meaning Full Motion Video, where the characters you interact with are real people, its almost like watching a movie that you control the narrative to. You can type out your questions and answers to which there are 1600+ full screen HD responses the characters can use to continue the conversations.  This sounds great in theory but I found my self typing multiple questions and phrases just for them to be con...

How Video Games Saved My Life And Helped My Mental Health – The Healing Power Of Gaming

We've heard it time and time again, "Video games make people violent", "Video games aren't a productive use of your time" and "Video games are a negative and angry place". These words are usually spoken by people who don't know a lot about the gaming world, who fear the unknown and adhere to all the misconceptions, typically brought to the world via the media or frustrated parents. All of these words you have undoubtedly heard, couldn't be further from the truth. How do I know that? Well, because I am a gamer and If it wasn't for video games I wouldn't be here talking to you today. In essence, gaming has saved my life and I'm here, thankfully, to tell you why.
