Stories Untold Review – Stranger Things Could Happen

Stories Untold is a creepy collection of interconnected short stories that will have you gripped from beginning to end. The spine chilling text adventure, which is smothered in 80s nostalgia, will leave you in awe, pondering what you just experienced. Gameplay The game has four distinct episodes that all have unique gameplay mechanic. The first, House Abandon, is text adventure. You are seated at a desk in front of a Spectrum-esque computer and a CRT monitor. The game starts innocently but soon, it takes a dark turn. It was during this episode that I realised the pure brilliance and innovation of the developers No Code. The atmosphere that they create during the episode is astounding and that is due to the fantastic writing and sound design.  After finishing the first episode, I c...

Northgard Review – A Blessing From The Gods

Today I'm looking at the RTS game Northgard on the PS4. Northgard has been developed by Shiro Games and published by Shiro Games and Merge Games. It's available now on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems, Linux.   Gameplay As I have mentioned already, Northgard is an RTS game. I admit I'm not a massive RTS fan with an exception for a few WWII RTS games. Not because I don't like them, but because I suck at them. Northgard has a tutorial which I'm grateful for, I'm curious about the translation of this game to a joypad. First off as I started this game I realised I couldn't cop out with switching this game over to easy mode. There is no easy skill level to help me relax into Northgard. Tutorial wise, Northgard does a fine job gui...

Decay of Logos Review – Decay Of Dreams

Decay of Logos. From the title, I thought this was going to be another one of those logo/company guessing games however I was relieved to actually find a rather cool looking third-person RPG game.  Developed by Amplify Creations and published in partnership with Rising Star Games, Decay of Logos has been on a journey since early conception by game designer and programmer Andre Constantino in 2014.  Playing as a young girl named Ada you explore the fantasy world with your mystical Elk as you seek revenge on the culprits behind your village being destroyed.  All is, however, not what it seems. Gameplay Yes, everything isn't at all as it seems!  I will confess, I have held back on writing this review for a little while.  I wanted the devs to address issues that other gamers have picked up o...

Paranoia: Happiness Is Mandatory Review – And Who Knows If You’ll Like It?

Think Big Brother meets Red Dwarf meets the Fallout Vault meets Black Mirror and you’ll have an idea of what recently released CRPG Paranoia: Happiness Is Mandatory is all about. Developed by Black Shamrock & Cyanide, published by BigBen Interactive and available on the Epic Games Store for Windows PC, Paranoia does what it says on the tin from the outset. Happiness might be mandatory in this game, but it’s certainly not an easy mindset to get into. Especially with the all-seeing Friend Computer breathing down your neck at every turn.  So, how do you ensure the survival of the happiest when you don’t know what the hell’s going on? Let’s dive in and find out. Gameplay Paranoia throws you in at the deep end from the beginning, waking you up from your cloning tank and walking yo...

Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training Review – Dumb or Dumber?

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training helped make the Nintendo DS popular with non-gamers and as a result of this, Grannies and Mothers all over the world were putting down their knitting needles and picking up a stylus. Fast forward to 2020 and Nintendo are back with an updated version of the classic, however does it still have the same appeal as previously?   Gameplay Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, Brain Training gives you a range of exercises to complete which helps you in preparation for the dreaded 'Brain Age' test! These training exercises focus around maths, logic and memory-based task, which I know doesn't sound terribly fun but trust me, it is! Due to how the game tracks your progress, you constantly want to better your score and as a result, you'll pick ...

Super Crush KO Nintendo Review

Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch and Indies have complimented each other beautifully. In the early months of the systems life, after besting Ganon, it was Indies we all turned to. Of those, Graceful Explosion Machine stood out with its bright visuals and tight action gameplay. Skip forward a few years, and the team over at Vertex Pop are back with Super Crush KO. Released on 16th January (for Nintendo Switch and Steam), it's time for another injection of bold colour and fast action into your game library. Gameplay Super Crush KO keeps with the gameplay sensibilities seen in Vertex Pop's past titles, but applies them to an action brawler. As Karen, you find yourself victim to the most heinous of crimes. Rule Zero has been broken - someone's taken your cat! (Also they're also i...

Doctor Who: The Edge of Time PSVR Review- Intergalactic triumph or sonic screw-up?

There is no arguing the Doctor Who is a global phenomenon. Love it or hate it, it can't be denied that it is one of the most recognisable programs on television. Over its many years of existence, it has attracted a large and dedicated fan base of those who like to call themselves "Whovians" (each to his own!). Like the directors of the final Skywalker saga, films have found, such fan bases claim a certain amount of ownership over their beloved franchise and they are notoriously difficult to please. Developers Maze Theory and publishers Playstack have therefore firmly placed themselves in the "Whovians" crosshairs with Doctor Who: The Edge of Time which I believe is the eponymous Time Lord's first outing in VR. So have they managed that difficult balancing act of producing a great game an...

Hardcore Mecha Review- Lock And Load

So today I bring you Hardcore Mecha made by RocketPunch Games. More importantly, I have managed to get my hands on the PlayStation 4 version before general launch. Gameplay The first thing that hit me when I started Hardcore Mecha was the OST. I sat at the main menu listening to the opening soundtrack because it's that damn good. Hardcore Mecha starts you off with a tutorial for your first level. It's more like dangling a treat in front of you. Your tutorial level is in an all singing and all dancing mecha. This thing does everything and is a glimpse of things to come. Hardcore Mecha is at its heart a 2D side-scrolling shooter. Although in my opinion, it runs far deeper than just that. You can collect and research new weapons, defensive parts etc. you get to customise your mecha t...

WarpThrough Review – Warp, Dodge, Dip, Jump, Punch

Developed by Roofkat in the Netherlands, WarpThrough is a unique arcade-inspired action platformer. Created as a solo project by Ramon Huiskamp, WarpThrough has been shown off numerous times during its early development, during which players enjoyed the gameplay. Let's take a look at this one-man game, and see what he's come up with! Gameplay The gameplay in WarpThrough is pretty straight forward. You navigate small arenas that wrap around the screen, fight monsters and collect warps. The one thing that makes WarpThrough unique is that you have to stop moving to charge your attack. As you navigate the arenas to collect the warps, you have to kill the monsters, otherwise, they'll continue spawning, and you'll have a bad time. Collecting the warps allows doing research, which unlocks new l...

AO Tennis 2 Review – Ace Or Fault?

As the first Grand Slam of the year is on our doorstep, tennis aficionados start to dust off their classic tennis games to get their fill of the sport they love. Some may argue that the last great game was Virtua Tennis 2, others may side with Top Spin 4, however the one thing that fans can agree on is that as of late, tennis games have been awful. With that in mind AO Tennis developers, Big Ant Studios, returns to the baseline ready to serve with their aptly named AO Tennis 2. Echoes of their poorly reviewed first outing haunts them as they prepare to deliver their sequel. Sweat slowly dips, the furry ball has been firmly caressed. Will this be another fault or an ace? Gameplay If you are looking for an arcadey tennis game where you can speed around the court and pull off ridicul...
