Steering Wheel Series – The Fanatec Hardware

Having been a huge fan of the racing game genre for a long time, I consider myself to be a decent racer when it comes to using the controller. Playing games like Project Cars, Driveclub, GT, and many more, I always felt like something was missing. Could a steering wheel make me better? This was a big question that always rocked around inside my head, and finally i decided to find out. After reaching out to the good people at Fanatec who generously donated some brilliant hardware it was time to finally find out if using a wheel made me better. The Hardware For this I am using the Fanatec CSL Elite PS4 Starter Kit, with an additional Loadcell kit. To those of you that aren't familiar with this allow me to elaborate. The Fanatec CSL Elite Racing wheel is officially licensed for use...

Rogue Islands Review – Don’t Call It Minecraft

Rogue Islands is dubbed a first-person shooter rogue like game sporting procedurally generated worlds full of magic, monsters, and fantasy based settings. It is developed by Big Fat Alien, published by Keystone Games and is currently still in early access on steam with promises from the developers to balance and add more content over time. They are currently slated to be in early access for the next 3 months, but as you know in the gaming community, this can stretch into the foreseeable future. The game is currently being led by industry veteran Jane Whittaker. You might know him from previously worked on classics such as GoldenEye 64 and Alien vs Predator. He has also led projects for Atari and Electronic Arts. You are Motwort the gnome. With your ship, The Tawny Mote, you set out t...

Nidhogg 2 Review – Worms Everywhere

Nidhogg 2 is a quirky hacking, slashing, stabbing fencing game. Which is now 16bit instead of 8bit like the original. It's a hard game to describe but I'll do my very best. Gameplay Nidhogg 2 gameplay is split into three different modes. You have Arcade Mode, which is yourself versus the computer. There is Local Multiplayer which is a good old-fashioned on the couch war with your friends. This can be the classic one on one, or you can set up a tournament for three to eight players. Finally, there is Online Multiplayer where you can play ranked matches or unranked matches. Again, these are one on one battles. Nidhogg 2 plays like a game of tug of war. There are seven screens and you both begin on the middle screen. You then kill your opponent anyway possible, you can use your fee...

Superhero Carnage in Agents of Mayhem

The latest Saints Row takes you through a futuristi...no wait, that can’t be right. Oh, of course, it’s an easy mistake to make. The latest release from Volition sees futuristic superhero title, Agents of Mayhem coming to PC and consoles with a very strong Saints Row feel. The following piece is from my time with the Xbox One version of the game. Agents of Mayhem is set in the city of Seoul, which is set within the same universe as Saints Row, and holds the signature purple hue style Volition are famous for. You take control of three MAYHEM agents, part of an organisation of superheroes with the task to complete linear missions to overthrow the super villain organisation known as LEGION who, rather unsurprisingly want to take over the world. The game takes place after the events of t...

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul PSVR – To Scare Or Not To Scare?

Well I'm a huge horror movie fan so when I received Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul by VRWERX to review on my PSVR I think excited was an understatement. I could barely contain myself, the excitement for me was like being a kid at Christmas. So, let's not keep you waiting any longer for how my nerves fared in this my latest horror outing. Gameplay Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul has a lot of potential. You have a haunted house to explore. There's a creepy cellar there for you too. Things move and dart about in the shadows through your peripherals. This game can make you jump and trust me it will make you jump and probably scare you have to death. Unfortunately, this is where Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul stops being everything you want it to be. VRWERX bully you into using...

Sonic Mania Review – Getting All The Feels

Sonic makes his return in Sonic Mania and he is bringing a few friends. The game is developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games and published by Sega for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. The game was announced to commemorate Sonic's 25th Birthday and features remastered 2D graphics and animations as well as stages from games of old, and a few new ones for good measure. Gameplay The gameplay of Sonic Mania is simplistic at heart, but as with every other Sonic game that has come before it, it has a great challenge. Following the events of Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic and Tails receive a powerful energy reading from Angel Island and board Tails's plane, the Tornado, to investigate. However, Doctor Eggman has sent an elite group of robots, the Hard-Boiled H...

The Lost Bear PSVR Review – Short But Sweet

The Lost Bear is co-developed by Fabrik games and OddBug Studio and published by Fabrik Games and is available for PSVR. When you first sit down and put on the PSVR headset and dive into The Lost Bear you know you are in for a treat. Sitting down on the comfy chair in front of a large stage area is mesmerising. Lets see how it fairs under scrutiny. Gameplay I will admit that it took me a little while to find the correlation of the games title - The Lost Bear - and what was happening on screen. However it suddenly dawned on me about 15 minutes into the game. You control Walnut, and your aim is to rescue your small teddy BEAR (!) from the Toysnatcher and get back to your Brother. You jump, run and slide to climb ledges and to reach other platforms, chasing down the little critter...

The Evolution Of Football In Gaming

Hey there fellow football fans. With the start of the new season comes the annual release of the 2 mainstay gaming titles: FIFA & PES. I’m sure this is a topic that we could sit and talk about for hours given the sheer volume of titles at our disposal. All of which have a plethora of features and pleasing attributes. However as both FIFA and PES are due for release over the coming weeks, we don’t really have the time for that kind of debate. So I thought it would be nice instead to just have a quick look over the origins of a few of the football titles from our past that shaped Football gaming as we know it (in my opinion at least). FIFA International Soccer (EA Games): For FIFA it all started back in 1993 on the Mega Drive/SNES. This is a key title in my opinion as not only was i...

Knock-Knock Review – Who’s There? Insomniac Hallucinations

When you become a lodger of a new property, you probably expect to just sit and relax, kick up your feet with a beverage of fresh tea, and run your fingers over the fabric of your armchair as you listen to the gentle crackling of the firewood in your fireplace. Sadly that isn’t possible in Knock-Knock. Originally launched on PC back in 2013, and then later ported to IOS devices in 2014, the creepy, side-scrolling thriller by Ice-Pick Lodge LLC is now available on Xbox One thanks to publisher, Sometimes You. The story finds you, a new lodger for this cabin, a cabin famed for being used as a laboratory in the past by three generations of previous lodgers, a cabin situated deep in the woods. You move in, but begin to notice weird happenings occurring, such as items going missing, strange s...
