Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles PC Review

Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles is a 3D puzzle platformer developed by Luminawesome Games Ltd and published by Wired Productions. With a price tag of £15.99 Lumote is available via Steam for Windows or Stadia. Unlike most games, Lumote offers a free playable demo... So if you're on the fence, why not give it a try first? Lumote is the most beautifully addictive puzzle game I have ever played. Period. We all remember the first time we picked up a game and fell in love with it, you play 'one quick level' and before you know it it's been 6 hours, the kids have gone to bed and you're in the doghouse... again. Lumote has taken me back on that journey, from the second I picked it up I found myself saying "just one more stage.. just one more". Without a doubt this is the most beautiful, addic...

Flynn: Son of Crimson Review

The third project and first major title from California developer Studio Thunderhorse, Flynn: Son of Crimson is a 2D pixel art platformer channelling the vibe of the SNES/Sega Mega Drive era. The project was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter back in 2017 and published by Humble Games. Feel the Power of Crimson! Pixel art platforming has another great to add to its ever-growing library. Flynn: Son of Crimson takes the best elements of late ‘80s/early ‘90s platforming and takes players on a nostalgic yet new adventure. In the fantasy nation of Rosantica, the veil between civilisation and the dark entity known as The Scourge is growing thin. Twisted creatures have begun to break through and spread their malevolence. The only thing standing in its way is young hero Flynn, a boy wit...

Aztech Forgotten Gods Review

Aztech Forgotten Gods is a new action-adventure game developed and published by indie studio Lienzo (Mulaka, Hunter's Legacy) available on March 10th. The game is set in an alternate reality in which the American continents did not face conquering nations and civilizations such as the Aztecs were able to flourish and develop into a modern technical society. You wield the power of the Forgotten Gods and become a hero as you turn their power against them. Witness Aztec Influence for a Modern Era in Aztech Forgotten Gods I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first took a look at the info available for Aztech Forgotten Gods. Once I got to playing it, it took a while for it to really sink in too. Only once I'd got further into the game though it finally did click and I began enjoying it m...

Pixel Art Powerhouses Coming in 2022

In what seems like a heartbeat, 2022 is now in full swing and already filled with ample gaming promise. Titles like Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring already have gamers aboard the ray-traced and perfectly rendered hype train, eagerly waiting to see what modern marvels are in store this new year. But down the quirky and colourful virtual tracks of indie gaming, there’s a different hype train rolling by. No less intricate in its design, but with a more ‘92 than ‘22 kind of flair. The pixel art hype train! Pixel art indie games have seen a tremendous surge in popularity in recent years. And if this year’s release schedule is anything to go by, they show zero signs of slowing down yet. And we at Thumb Culture are all kinds of here for it and ready to jump aboard! Here are just a f...

Pumpkin Jack Review

Developed by Nicolas Meyssonnier and published by Headup Games, Pumpkin Jack is a spooky 3D platformer. It was released on PC in October 2020 and then released on Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch in October 2021. Pumpkin Jack - A True Ode To Old School Platformers Now for as long as I can remember, I have played platformers and they have always been my favorite genre when it comes to video games. There's just something about the simplicity of them but yet even so of the greatest platforming games look easy but are a real challenge. So if platformers are your thing then let's crack on with this Pumpkin Jack review. If you enjoyed this review then why not check out my latest one here. You can also catch up with what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to ...

Broken Blades Review

Broken Blades is the debut game from developer Pirates Game Studio and is published by Golden Eggs Studios & West Wind Games. It is a 2D rogue-like platformer set in a fantasy dungeon full of various creatures and monsters. After the tutorial, I learned the game doesn't waste time. Right away I was in control of the protagonist in a world deep underground but with no understanding of who I am and how I got there. Fighting various monsters along the way as well as dodging the various traps, I only know hopefully there is a way out. Broken Blades - The Sword Is Definitely A Fixer-Upper From my first-hand experience and the general opinion of other players, Broken Blades is very difficult so bear that in mind. You can pick the game up on PC where it is available now. Platformers aren't ...

Sonic Colours Ultimate Review

Time and time again it has been said that Sonic's transition to 3D hasn't been as easy as, say, a certain plumber's. For that reason, I didn't even touch a 3D Sonic game until 2011 when Sonic Generations came out. It's also no secret that I am a HUGE Sonic fan and my heart lies in his heyday on the Sega Mega Drive and I didn't want anything taking that away from me. I really enjoyed Sonic Generations, but apparently, I've missed out by skipping the Sonic Adventure games on the Dreamcast. Given the reputation, I think it's acceptable to approach new 3D Sonic games with caution. Sonic Colours Ultimate - Is it Heads and 'Tails' Above the Rest? But Sonic Colours Ultimate isn't strictly a new Sonic game. It's a remaster of Sonic Colours which was released in 2010 exclusively on the Nintendo W...

Spelunker HD Deluxe Review

The Spelunker games are nearly as old as me, originally released in 1983. The game at its heart hasn't changed a massive amount as you walk, run and jump your way through cave systems. Spelunker HD Deluxe is an update to Spelunker HD that was released on the Playstation 3. Published by ININ Games who actually focus on feel-good, and retro arcade games. Spelunker HD Deluxe - Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place If you like this review check out my previous review here where I played The Persistence Enhanced on the PlayStation 5. Let me know in the comments what you think of this review. Gameplay In the role of an adventurer, your goal is to get as deep into the cave system as possible. In your way stands snakes, ghosts, and a variety of fiendish traps. Adventure mode is where players ...
