Tank Mechanic Simulator – Renovating History

I have been lucky in my life to play all manner of sims, some have been great and others have been atrocious.  Having recently reviewed car mechanic simulator, a game that seemingly gave you a basic understanding of where parts are on a car, but at the same time leaving out the swearing and grunt work behind that "five-minute" job, I was intrigued to take a look at Polish devs DeGenerals S.A fantastically titled Tank Mechanic Simulator.  Slathered in world war 2 wartime history, was I going to regress into Uncle Albert of Only Fools and Horses fame as I tell everyone about my tank restoration exploits or would I end up walking away from the rusty mess? Gameplay The back story to Tank Mechanic Simulator is that you are a museum owner/tank restorer, having taken over from your late fat...

Cloud Gardens – This is Art-A-Stack…

Cloud Gardens is an incredibly relaxing, diorama creating puzzle game from Noio Games. Their first game since the excellent Kingdom franchise debuted; Cloud Gardens is what I like to call a seed 'em up. It's an incredibly different pace compared to their more roguelite, tower defence style of the Kingdom games. Giving you small urban wastelands, that you can manipulate and grow plants in. Your goal is to populate and produce a diorama. That is until you achieve a certain level of foliage and you're able to progress. You quickly realise Cloud Gardens is just an incredibly relaxing puzzle game, with some clever engine design too. Gameplay Cloud Gardens starts up and you're just given a voxelised space to examine; it is up to you to work out how to play the game. In fact the first level is ...

Tamarin – Cutesy Shootsy

Chameleon Games is a small studio made up of some Ex-Rareware developers founded in 2013. Their game, Tamarin was made to be reminiscent of 3D Platformer collectathons like Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 or Jet Force Gemini. Developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC, Tamarin released on September 10th, 2020. For this review, I'll be taking a look at the PC version of the game, so let's get into it, shall we? "Explore, leap and shoot to save your family from the insect invasion! Leap with the agility of a tamarin as you journey into the Northern wilderness, in a world full of exploration, 3D-platforming and bug-splattering action!" - Steam Store Gameplay Tamarin is a 3d Platformer sometimes. Other times it's a third-person shooter. You begin the game with a short cutscene of a nice peaceful ...
Manifold Garden – Up Is Down And Down Is Up?

Manifold Garden – Up Is Down And Down Is Up?

Created as a debut title for William Chyr Studios by a small team of programmers, Manifold Garden is an interesting take on the puzzle-platformer adventure.  Take what you know about physics and toss it out the window. That knowledge is no good here. Up is not necessarily up, and down isn't always down.  Created by William Chyr, who wanted to create a puzzle game that he felt, as a player, he could finish. Manifold Garden was initially revealed with the name Relativity, referring to the M.C. Escher work that inspired it. There are a few behind-the-scenes type videos available on YouTube if you're curious about how this games impossible geometry was pulled off. Currently Manifold Garden is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. PC and Mobile ports are being worked on. ...

PGA Tour 2K21 – It’s All In The Hips

Time to channel your inner Justin Thomas with PGA Tour 2K21! PGA Tour 2K21 is the latest golf game on the market from publishers 2K and developed by HB Studios Multimedia Ltd and is the first golf game from 2K and the first official PGA Tour video game since 2015.  Out now on PC, XBOX & PS4, let's see if PGA Tour 2K21 is on par! Gameplay First off just want to say a massive well done 2K & HB, they have nailed this game. PGA Tour 2k21 includes plenty of tutorials for newcomers to the games, shot suggestions and even a putting guide that will show you exactly where your putt will go, as long as you hit the power correctly. You can switch this off depending on your ability to read the greens and give yourself more of a challenge, kind of like the EA Sports Golf games used to hav...

Golftopia – Where To Putt It?

MiniMax Games Ltd released an anticipated title into early access via Steam in July this year. That game is in fact Golftopia. The futuristic golf course simulator game that gets you off the green and gives you an arsenal of tools to create and run your own course. I have to be honest here, personally I am not a fan of golf, but I am a fan of a good simulator game! Keep reading to find out how I got on designing and running my own sci-fi themed course. Gameplay Having played the older SIM Golf game and really enjoying it I was keen to put Golftopia to the test. The thing with SIM games is ultimately they all have the same storyline of a sort. You are a creator/manager of whatever theme the simulator game is related to. This sounds easy, however, so many developers have got this wrong in ...

Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade Review – Quarter Cruncher Supreme

The Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade features a series of arcade releases of the immensely popular shoot-em-up franchise. Often touted as one of the pioneers of the genre, Darius was unique in that its cabinets used three screens to create a longer visual range on which to play the game. Having a triple screen set up made for a very wide and eye-catching cabinet. Unfortunately, my local arcade growing up didn't have the funds to acquire such a machine. First released in 1987 by Taito Corporation, Darius set a high standard for Shmups(Shoot-Em-Ups). This is the second of two collections released for the Darius Franchise. I'm taking a look at the collection of Arcade releases on the Playstation 4, whereas the review for the Console collection can be found Here. Gameplay Darius Cozmic Collec...

Climbros Review – Why Climb The Switch? Because It Is There

It can't be an easy life for my hands. When I'm not giving them blisters from overly long gaming sessions, I'm destroying them at the climbing gym. Thanks to lockdown, I've not been able to hit the walls for a while now. So you can understand my delight when I saw Climbros coming soon to the eShop . An arcade climbing game that will let me run riot on routes in a way I can't in real life? Harness me up! Well, the time is now. Climbros launches on Switch today. Read on to find out if it's worth your time to tie in and crush this route. Gameplay First things first, this isn't a true climbing experience. If you don't know an ATC from a GriGri, or a crimp from a pinch, then don't fear. Climbros will prepare you for climbing as much as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater will prepare you for doing ...

Bug Academy Review – Swarmy Study Buzzies

If you had asked me a while back if I would play a game about insects, my answer probably would have been; "Sim Ant?!". Since I was a young boy, I've enjoyed weird little games where you play as insects doing insect stuff. Sim Ant was semi-educational and fun. Bug Academy takes the idea of insect gameplay and adds a whole lot of fun physics. Developed by Igrek Games, and published by Ultimate Games for Microsoft Windows via Steam for a measly CAD$ 11.49, Bug Academy came out on January 14th, 2020. So, without further delay let's jump in and see what the BUZZ is about. (hehe, see what I did there?) Gameplay Bug Academy is a physics puzzler where you control a buzzy swarm of insects to complete various tasks. Igrek Games have laid out Bug Academy as a series of lessons about the various ty...

Murder By Numbers Review – Elementary my dear quadrature

Remember the 90's? Flannel shirts, MTV, Furby, Tamagotchi's, bowl Cuts, neon patterns, amazing cartoons, and the idea that all robots are sentient. Murder By Numbers dives headfirst into all the nostalgia possible, and in classic 90's fashion, sends you and your robot buddy to hunt down bad guys. Only, instead of muscle-bound action heroes, these criminals will face the wrath of cognitive thinking. Developed by Mediatonic games, Murder By Numbers is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC. Gameplay Murder By Numbers is at its heart a series of logic puzzles (commonly known a Picross or Nanogram puzzle) wrapped in a visual novel. Set in the '90s, you follow Honor Mizhari, an actor who finds herself in a somewhat forced career change. She used to be a hit TV detective but now fin...
