The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard has been out for some time now. The question is, how does it stand up against more recent releases? We got a nice little care package from the amazing people at Razer. So let’s see if we can answer that question.
Sneki Snek Saves Trees
Yes, you read that right, that little Sneki Snek in some of our pictures saves 10 trees. Razer’s commitment to sustainability means that for every Sneki Snek you purchase, 10 trees will be planted. I’d say that’s worth checking out. Much like this review. See what I did there?

Design
Like most Razer products, the BlackWidow V4 Pro has a beautiful black finish. A strong sturdy keyboard, with plenty of features under the hood. Fear not though, if black isn’t your colour, it does come in white too!
Featuring a command dial as well as 8 customisable macro keys, the BlackWidow V4 Pro can be set up exactly how you need it. Whether you want to choose from a predetermined list of commands and keystrokes or create multi-key macros. The options are endless.
With gorgeous RGB lighting, featuring immersive underglow as well as per-key lighting, the keyboard will allow you to use the Razer Chroma app to customise in millions of ways. Even better, with the software you can ensure that all your Razer hardware has the same light pattern for incredible cohesiveness. Featuring either Green, Orange, or Yellow mechanical switches, you can choose exactly what feel the keyboard has. Add to your comfort with the included magnetic leatherette wrist rest which also features underglow lighting.
Features
With so many features, it is often hard to summarise what makes a keyboard worth getting. So I’m going to try.
The BlackWidow V4 Pro is a proper mechanical gaming keyboard. Which means one thing that is always going to take a battering, is the keycaps. Fear not though as Razer have used Doubleshot ABS Keycaps for this keyboard. Using this doubleshot moulding process ensures that the keycaps never fade. Simply put, these keycaps are able to withstand even the most intensive of uses. Which is handy to say the least. All too many times have I seen the sad scene when the WASD keys start to wear and disappear from a keyboard!
Let’s talk about the Command Dial a bit more. This little twiddly knob allows you to quickly change certain bits of your setup. Being able to switch between keyboard brightness, switching apps, and even vertical and horizontal scrolling can be a god send. With a quick press, it scrolls through all the available options. That isn’t all though, as with the Razer Synapse software you can create and store up to 100 different modes. Generally, if you can think of it, you can make it happen.
Using the Synapse software you can also prioritise the latest input between two keys without having to release the previous one. Meaning that you can enjoy more responsive inputs, allowing quicker directional changes.
Connectivity
The BlackWidow V4 Pro is a wired keyboard, but don’t let that put you off. It’s an incredibly good keyboard to use. Add to that the amount of customisation possible with the Synapse software you are on to a winner.
A neat feature of this keyboard is the power passthrough. This means that you can daisy chain the USB power to run a charge cable for your mouse, or anything for that matter. Its quick a neat little feature.
Final Thoughts
I really like the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard. It has some great features and is an absolute joy to use. My only worry is the price point. Starting from £229.99 it is quite pricy for a wired keyboard. Hopefully, though this doesn’t put too many people off from upgrading their kit.
The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard gets the Thumb Culture Gold Award.

I’m afraid I don’t agree with your Gold Award there. I bought the V4 not long ago and the quality I experience was just terrible. Using the keyboard, I got so many key bounce errors where I type a letter and 2 more appear after the one I typed, that I almost through the bloody keyboard out the window.
They feel of the keyboard was good and I love the RED key switch feel, but man, of all the keyboards I have, it’s the worst.
I have a Keycron C3 Pro which worked pretty well, but had one key switch LED that was burned out and they are not replaceable. I also got a cheaper wireless keyboard that actually outperforms the Razer.
My current and oldest keyboard is a Steel Series Apex 5. It’s loud, but it’s been the most reliable keyboard I have had to date.
Maybe I got a defective V4, but that key bounce issue happened on many of the keys I would type when using it.
Hey there Dave, Thats a strange issue to have. I can honeslty say i’ve never had that issue. It types just fine for me!
