If you are looking for your next game, then you might want to consider Rhythm Paradise Groove. The incredibly addictive game uses a tried and tested concoction of easy to pick up gameplay, with that “Just One More” flavour. Let’s find out just what makes it tick.

Get In The Groove

Having spent a number of hours playing through the different options in the game, I can tell you that you are going to want to pick this game up. Now if you want to experience everything for the first time, with no little tidbits of information. Then skip reading the rest of this review and head to the Nintendo Store and purchase it. For those who want to know more, let’s hit the Gameplay section.

Gameplay

When you fire up the game, you get to calibrate it to your TV to make sure that when you press the buttons, they are registered. If you are playing handheld, then there is no calibration needed. This only takes a few minutes and finds you pressing a button in time with the music beats. Pretty simple enough. Once you’ve done this section, you unlock the rest of the game. Play solo or with friends. Now, don’t get me wrong, everything is better with friends. Although in Rhythm Paradise Groove, playing alone can be incredibly rewarding.

Time it right and you’ll change the scene

In Solo, you get to play over 80 mini-games. Each with its own catchy music, curated by renowned Japanese musician Tsunku. There isn’t really much to it, just listen to the instructions and enjoy. Time your button presses, and you can’t go wrong. If you ace these levels, then you gain a medal, with these going towards opening up other levels and modes. Including the very fun dungeon runner mode. Using button presses to cast spells to defeat monsters as you journey towards the boss level.

If you want to play with friends, grab three of them and play more than 30 rhythm games. With either cooperative or competitive games, each gives you a unique way to enjoy the game. There is so much more in the background to taste; the aforementioned Beatspell dungeon runner is one, but you eventually unlock the Drum Lesson mode. Giving you access to learn the basics of drumming. Rhythm Paradise Groove gives everyone the ability to make great fun music whilst having fun with it.

If it’s all too much, then you can just head into the Cafe mode. Just relax and unwind.

Graphics & Audio

Each minigame has its own character, with numerous graphic styles, it’s really difficult to pinpoint it to one alone. From pixel art style games, through to cartoon ghosts hiding from the moon. It really is all there. Everything all adds up to a beautiful-looking game.

Honestly, as you’d expect, the audio is what makes this game such a joy to play. Each game has its own music track and audio prompt that you have to listen out to. If you’ve not got your TV calibrated correctly, though, you are going to have a nightmare playing the game.

Longevity

You’ll be playing Rhythm Paradise Groove loads. That’s it, that’s the section.

Listen for the sneezes!

Not really, just there is so much to get stuck into. I did find that after playing solo for around an hour, I had to take a break, not because the game was boring or anything like that, but more so that i could give my hands a break from gripping the controller tightly.

Final Thoughts

Rhythm Paradise Groove is a great game, one that you will absolutely love playing. I personally wouldn’t wait to pick this up and go and get it now. For me, this is an essential Switch 2 purchase.
