Obsessed with mini figures? Love opening mystery boxes?
Rocinante Games is here to fill the hole in your heart when you’re just desperate to open a plastic bag and see which figure you get with their new release. Mystery Egg Shop Simulator: Prologue is a long demo of their upcoming release.

I played through the Prologue, which you can find on Steam, to see whether this game had high hopes or was going to end up in a back office never to be shelved.

Mystery Egg? Don’t mind if I do!

A person in a tropical shirt stands behind a counter with product boxes and a retro cash register. Game UI displays tasks and balance. Playful, task-oriented scene. There is yellow font at the top of the screen saying "click highlighted products to scan" relating to the product boxes with yellow outlines on the counter in front of the player.
How many mysteries can one man need?!

Gameplay

Mystery Egg Shop Simulator features the pretty generic simulator gameplay. Buy things through a shop; unload boxes from a van; stack the shelves with product; cash out customers.

It adds another layer to the gameplay with the collectable mini-figures. Similar to the card elements in the game TCG Shop Simulator, in Mystery Egg, you can open the various products that you stuck and collect the figures. From this, you can list duplicates for sale or complete dioramas, which you can sell at full completion for a decent whack of cash.

A virtual storefront displays a $220 diorama with figurines in a case on a marble counter. The background shows a street view. Tasks and controls are listed on the left.
How much for some plastic cats?!

The prologue introduces players to these mechanics with a pretty fleshed-out tutorial. Mystery Egg Shop Simulator closes the door after you reach three different types of mystery eggs. You can continue to play on from here if you wish!

Graphics & Audio

The NPC design in Mystery Egg Simulator is, at times, questionable. With bulging eyes and for some reason shirts that never button up the NPC cast is super diverse.

A cartoonish character wearing a red and white striped outfit and top hat walks down a city sidewalk. The setting is daytime with buildings and a tree. Text overlays display tasks and inventory status, creating a playful and quirky atmosphere.
Is that Panic! At The Disco?!?!

The figures themselves are very cute, especially the monsters from the first box. Mystery Egg Shop Simulator does offer a wide range of different designs from what I can see so far. It ranges from the cutesy aliens to realistic cats and then to caricature football figures.

Wumpus I will cherish you forever

As for audio, there’s nothing remarkable as the game doesn’t need anything to overpower the simplistic gameplay. It works well for what it is needed for.

Longevity

As it is just a demo, it only took me an hour to complete Mystery Egg Shop Simulator. However, I really, really want more game. Excited does not even begin to describe what I feel waiting for the full release. I need to open more boxes. I need to complete more collections!

Final Thoughts

I really, really loved Myster Egg Shop Simulator. I’ve actually gone as far as to wishlist the full release, which has a 2026 release date. If you want a simulator game that doesn’t take itself too seriously and offers more than just stacking shelves and scanning products, then you need to give this little prologue a try!
