Life is too short for a plain keyboard. There. I said it. We recently reviewed the KiiBOOM Phantom 98 and the Phantom 81 Lite keyboards neither of which can be described as plain! So it stands to reason that any KiiBOOM keycap set wouldn’t be either right? Join me as I take a closer look at the KiiBOOM X Cosydiaries Rainy Froggy Day Keycap Set and the KiiBOOM X Elyxirine Digital Dreams: Pastel Y2K Keycap Set.

Rainy Froggy Day

The KiiBOOM X Cosydiaries Rainy Froggy Day Keycap Set are actually a collaboration product between KiiBOOM and content creator Cosydiaries. Which if you’re fan of hers, you will have spotted straight away. Not least because of the name. They’re priced at $39.99 which is around £30 here in the UK. In the box you get 144 keys, meaning they can be used for 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL and full sized keyboards. It also means you have lots of choice about what keycaps you actually want to use.

Before I could test this cute little frog keycap set I first had to take off my other keycaps. Luckily thanks to the handy tool both packed in with my keyboard, and with the keycaps themselves, this was an easy job. They are clicked off and on very smoothly. In fact the only real fiddly bit was getting them out of the box, and that was a skill issue on my part caused by my long acrylic nails!

The keycaps themselves aren’t just pretty. These are some high quality keycaps, made from PBT plastic they are designed to withstand daily use. No design fade or chipping here. I’ve been known to chip cute keycaps mid assembly, but there was none of that here.

I went for MOA style which felt really nice to type on thanks to their ergonomic design. The joints in my hands can get painful when typing, but I found these really comfortable. Plus the sound of them is so satisfying. Only the best creamy thocky audio profile.

Digital Dreams: Pastel Y2K

Just as with the previous set, the KiiBOOM X Elyxirine Digital Dreams: Pastel Y2K Keycap Set are another collaboration product, this time with, you guessed it, Elyxirine. I hadn’t heard of this content creator before this review, I simply fell in love with the cute cyber Y2K aesthetic. However doing some little research I can totally see that this keycap set delivered on it’s content creator’s inspiration.

This keycap set is again priced at $39.99 which is around £30 here in the UK. Which I think is a good price given you get 144 keys to fit a range of keyboard sizes. And then even within that, a wide range of options as to which keycaps you actually use.

In terms of function there’s nothing I can really say that’s different from my look at the KiiBOOM X Cosydiaries Rainy Froggy Day Keycap Set. They’re made with the same materials, using the same 5-side dye-sublimation printing process so that the designs are long lasting. Although the texture of this set was slightly different. Which is something I appreciated as it did help me feel as though I had a whole new keyboard, which is always appreciated in this economy!

Final Thoughts

Having been hands on with a few KiiBOOM products now, it’s safe to say I am impressed. The KiiBOOM X Cosydiaries Rainy Froggy Day Keycap Set is perfect for a nature aesthetic. Whilst the KiiBOOM X Elyxirine Digital Dreams: Pastel Y2K Keycap Set has me firmly in it’s grips longing to be coding a MySpace page again. KiiBOOM has a range of sets though, menaing there is something for everyone. You don’t even have to compromise on quality, which is a god send to the tech girlies.

Both the KiiBOOM X Cosydiaries Rainy Froggy Day and the KiiBOOM X Elyxirine Digital Dreams: Pastel Y2K keycap sets get a Thumb Culture Gold Award!
