Here comes a brand-new game on Steam from the developers at Pmdk13. And the name being waaaay too long is… My Wife Threw Out My Card Collection (So I Bought a Dump to Find Them All). Let us hope some people don’t take this name as advice for all the Pokémon card collectors out there. Now, the game is out now, and is priced at £6.49, which isn’t too bad if I say so. But if you wish to support them as well, then the supporters pack will cost you £4.79.

If you are looking for a game to just switch off too and isn’t too pricey, might I suggest checking out my review for A Game About Digging A Hole?

Oscar with have to relocate from grouch land for this.

The player is holding a bag and is stood atop a trash pile. I front are two smaller piles of trash and further in the distance is a yellow house.
I can see my house from here!

Gameplay

We are welcomed with a brief text explaining the game, but I mean the title sums it up honestly. After that, we begin picking up trash on our long goal to find our collection. There aren’t any obstacles for the player to face, but we do get a stamina bar to manage. This depletes with every bit of trash you collect and is replenished via the vending machine. Which is located outside the house. All trash is thrown into the blue mimic dumpster, this will give the player money in turn. Use the money to upgrade stats to speed up the whole process.

A book with the words "Rule 34" in gold. It is locked shut.
One rule, yet sooooo much content…. or so I’ve heard.

Not all the trash is meaningless, as some of it can not be thrown away, but you can sell them at the shelves in your home. For example, RGB Iron, a phone, and a balloon that has a tag saying triangle. You will notice a kennel outside the house, that you are able to unlock, that provides the player with a dog who will sniff out high-valued objects. And possibly the cards themselves. The only other note worth thing for players to find, are birds, that you place in a tree. They don’t do anything besides act as another collectable.

Graphics & Audio

The graphics are very typical of simulator games; very bright, colourful, but not the most detailed textures. The lighting is standard, and it gives off the usual cheerful but simple vibe. There’s plenty of meme and internet references within the trash items themselves, but after a while you see the same ones quite frequently. As for audio, there are a few sound effects and a radio that plays music (mainly all trash-themed in lyrics). A couple were damn good, but in the end I opted for my own music.

Longevity

I cleared all trash piles and found all cards after 14 hours. There are 21 achievements for the player to obtain, and you should be able to unlock them all by simply playing. However, one achievement for collecting all the birds seemed to be bugged and from the discussion boards for My Wife Threw Out My Card Collection (So I Bought a Dump to Find Them All) this is a common issue.

An empty garden with a blue shopping cart in the distance.
My work is done, and my cards recollected.

Final Thoughts

The game is okay, and I’d suggest picking it up to numb your brain on the weekend. But it does become repetitive rather quickly, thanks to the lack of tools or fun upgrades. I would have thought as you upgraded the trash bin, we would have unlocked some funny tools, like a vacuum cleaner or maybe bombs for getting through rubbish quicker.

I would also suggest maybe having the dog clear trash rather than just finding valuable items. As the game doesn’t make them all that hard to uncover. This is why I’m giving My Wife Threw Out My Card Collection (So I Bought a Dump to Find Them All) the Thumb Culture Silver Award.
