The oddly named game called A Game About Digging A Hole, was developed by Cyberwave. And the game is about, yep you guessed it, digging a hole. Right now I don’t know the pricing but it will be released on Steam for those who are interested.

An Article About A Game

A suit panted leg, with a brown formal foot wear. A tire is just next to it with orange rims. A couple houses are seen to the right.
Let’s get to it.

Now there is a smidgen of a story for this Game About Digging A Hole. And that is we buy a newly advertised house for sale, that supposedly has treasure buried in the garden. Yep, it’s that simple. But hey, the house was quiet, and cheap on the market for a low cost of £10,000.

Gameplay

So in A Game About Digging A Hole, we purchase a new shovel to help dig in our garden. The Shovel itself is upgradeable and will dig a wider area with each upgrade. Now, there is only a handful of stuff you can upgrade. Some upgrades I’d prioritize are the battery pack and shovel. Mainly because when the battery dies, you will die. However, you have your health to manage as well.

A list of the upgrades available. Each has a symbol as well as a bar to show how far you have left. At the end of each is the price. The lower left displays health and battery life.
Going steady but nearly done.

While digging deeper down into the garden, you will find ores. These are then sold on the computer in the house. And that is how you will pay for upgrades. Some other stuff you’re able to get is dynamite for clearing large rocks, and lights to illuminate tunnels. And that’s kinda of it, that’s the gameplay loop. Dig, upgrade, Dig.

Graphics & Audio

The graphics for A Game About Digging a Hole are simplistic, bright and cheerful. While the textures aren’t super detailed or anything, I think it suits the game just fine, and it’s pleasant to look at and not too harsh on the eyes. There also isn’t much in the way of audio besides some sound effects, but for games like this, I like to play my music on and vibe while playing (which I did with this one).

Longevity

The game is really short, and I ended up beating it a little over two hours. When you do, you unlock Achievement mode for the next time you start a new game. Odd that it’s not there to begin with, but it adds some time to the Achievement Hunters out there.

Finally!

Final Thoughts

Now, A Game About Digging A Hole keeps it simple and fun. It doesn’t try to do anything too wild, which I’m okay with. The game knows what it wants to do and I Dig it. The only improvements (well, more like suggestions) are to add some secrets while digging or maybe bones. Other than that, the game is enjoyable and great for killing some time. So I would recommend it and I think it deserves A Thumb Culture Gold Award.
