It’s a great time to be a gamer and LEGO fan. Not only have we had the recent Fortnite reveals and the news about the Shadow the Hedgehog bust, but LEGO decided to use San Diego Comic-Con as the perfect place to announce the brand new LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set!
This set is the fifth addition to the 18+ LEGO Super Mario range, and we couldn’t think of anything more perfect than Mario and Yoshi being reunited in 16bit style.
WAHOOO!
As this is a set aimed at us adults LEGO have really leant into the side-scrolling Nintendo nostalgia and I love it. The LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set uses a 2D build to bring the pixelated joy of our 16bit childhood to life. Mario may be an icon but we all know the real fan favourite is his trusty companion and stead, Yoshi. The Yoshi fun doesn’t even end once you’ve built this 1215 masterpiece. Nope. Just as with the PAC-MAN Arcade set, you can turn a handle or dial for interactive fun! Turn the handle at the base to see Yoshi run with Mario on his back. Or turn the dial hidden behind Yoshi’s head to make his tongue move in and out. We even heard that there is even more interactive fun as this model set includes an Action Tag, that works with the digital Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach figures sold separately.
Mamma Mia!
Carl Merriam, a Senior Designer on LEGO Super Mario explained: “In this model, we wanted to capture the original sprite animation from Super Mario World. This meant re-creating the pixel art in LEGO bricks and then adding a mechanism to make Yoshi run with Caped Mario riding on his back. AND if that wasn’t enough fun, we also added a dial to make Yoshi’s tongue pop in and out – just like in the game!”

It’s a-me, instantly adding this to my LEGO cart. A Mario cart if you will. Ok I’ll stop now.
