Prey Review – A Delayed Perspective

Developed by Arkane Studios, also known for Dishonored, and published by Bethesda, Prey was released back on May 5th 2017. You play as the scientist Morgan Yu aboard the space station Talos 1 in the year 2032. You and your brother Alex are part of the family company TranStar, who have repurposed the space station from a prison into an alien research facility. TranStar has been experimenting with the Typhon aliens to create neuromods which enhance and alter humans’ abilities, talents, and life expectancy. Everything goes to hell when the ship becomes overrun with the Typhon and you must venture forth to address the problem. The narrative is set in an alternate future, open world environment, which allows you to forge your own path. The game is more like a spiritual successor to 1994’s Syste...

Project Cars 2 Review – Start Your Engines

Slightly Mad Studios (SMS) are the guys behind the amazing Project Cars racing game. Scratch that last part! Project Cars is by no means a game. Project Cars is a full-blown racing simulation. Anyway Slightly Mad Studios are back again. This time they bring us Project Cars 2 which is available on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4. Before I start this review, I know our regular readers will be wondering why I’m reviewing this game and not Stuart. Well as it happened the gods smiled down on me and wiped his hard drive and then sent him to EGX. So Stuart didn’t get the chance to hammer his Fanatec set-up this time around. So here I am with an evil glint in my eye getting ready to review Project Cars 2. I have to admit this is a favourite genre for me so I personally purchased this game ins...

The Hunter Call of the Wild – Winner Winner Venison Dinner

This is my experience with theHunter Call of the Wild. A title that finds you wandering through an open plain surrounded by towering, autumnal trees, and you’re waiting patiently for your sights to hold steady over the left lung of a lone deer, waiting for the wind to reduce, finger on the trigger, then BAM. The bullet leaves your glossy rifle, travels through the air and the wind carries it from the lung to the neck. You still get a hit, the deer jolts in agony, and runs away into the forest. Time to get tracking and claim your trophy. theHunter Call of the Wild is a huge open-world game created by developer, Expansive Worlds and publisher, Avalanche Studios. It was launched in February 2017, with the previous title The Hunter that was released in 2009 by developer, Emote Games and als...

PES 2018 Review – Championship Candidate or Relegation Reject

As someone who has been a keen PES player since its first release back in 2001 (when it emerged like the Phoenix from the ashes of International Superstar Soccer). This is a review I’ve been looking forward to doing. The release of these games reminds of the start of a real football season when you have the hopes and dreams of your team pulling something out to amaze you. Have Konami done that to us this year? Well let’s find out… I’m sure that by this stage PES doesn’t need any kind of real introduction or explanation of what the game is. So I won’t bore you with a breakdown of what the game is about, after all everybody knows what football is (or at least I hope so.) Gameplay So this year PES has given us much of the same as last year in terms of what is included in this title. Ther...

Mantis Burn Racing – Review – New BattleCars DLC!

I've played a fair few racing games in my lifetime and thankfully have seen the evolution from the days of Super Sprint and Outrun to the latest offerings like F1 2018 and Project Cars.  Car games are fun be they realistic or arcade-style.  For me, there's nothing better than being rewarded by a win for your efforts to race a car around a course.  Indie Developer Voofoo games' Mantis Burn Racing has graced the Xbox One, PS4 and Steam store since the middle of 2016 and was announced at the recent EGX in Birmingham, UK that a Nintendo Switch version is in the pipeline. In a moment I will talk about the new BattleCars DLC, however its worth quickly mentioning a little about Mantis Burn Racing incase you've never played it before! Gameplay So as I previously mentioned the game is a to...

NASCAR Heat 2 Review – Rubbing’s Racing Harry

NASCAR Heat 2 is quite clearly a sequel to NASCAR Heat, but having not played the first iteration I was able to go in to this game with a clear mind. Although how much of a good thing that will be is left to be seen. Developed by Monster Games and published by 704Games, NASCAR Heat 2 takes on the massively popular racing franchise over in the USA. So does it cut the mustard with an F1 fan like myself? Gameplay The gameplay of NASCAR Heat 2 is summarised in the following words, Round And Round. Essentially it's an oval racer which challenges you to draft your opponents in order to overtake and make your way through the field. Sounds simple right? Well, you would be a fool to believe so. It's tactical and brutal, go down to low on the corners and you can quickly find yourself facing onc...

Necrosphere Review – 8 Bit Wonderful

Necrosphere is a platform game developed and published by Cat Nigiri. This indie game already has three rewards under its belt from Brazil's Independent Games Festival 2017. These awards are Best Brazilian Game Finalist, Best Gameplay Finalist and Innovation Finalist. Necrosphere is a lightweight contender weighing in at 400mb with the Deluxe Edition. The story is kind of cool too. You play a character named Agent Terry Cooper who has died and entered the Necrosphere, which is the place where everyone goes when they die. While in there he discovers that there are portals to Normalsphere. Which, yes you guessed it. That’s the name for the living world. Gameplay Gameplay is important in any game regardless of story or graphics. This is something Cat Nigiri have not forgotten about a...

Aporia: Beyond the Valley – Solve The Puzzles, Be The Hero.

Investigate North have treated us to a second game, Aporia: Beyond the valley. The team have reined it in a little since Cloud Chamber and have concentrated on a more solitary existence in Aporia. Have they hit the nail on the head or is the game now lacking? Gameplay Aporia: Beyond the valley starts with no information about who you are, what you are doing there or even why you are doing it. Aporia is a first-person perspective game using the standard WASD movement method. You can jump, you can duck and you can interact with items in the world. The setting looks like it's based on a bit of an Aztec - Inca mash up, there are ancient buildings and beautiful forests. My first instinct was to draw my weapon and wait for the marauding zombies to attack. I had no weapon and there were no zomb...
