Winter Ember – Xbox Series X Review

As a fan of stealth adventures I was excited when Winter Ember dropped into TC Headquarters inbox. Developed by Sky Machine Studios and published by Blowfish Studios/Gamera Games, from watching the trailer I couldn't wait to get stuck in! Into the Shadows! Winter Ember takes its inspiration from games such as Thief and Dishonored, some big games to live up to! Did it meet them? Read on to find out and if you like this review check out my previous one here! Gameplay Winter Ember, as with most stealth titles is a tale of revenge where you take on the role of Arthur and skulk around in the shadows, looting unsuspecting people and their houses, hiding from enemies and quite frankly anyone else that you don't want to show your face to! The game starts with Arthur escorting ladies bac...

The Hand Of Merlin – Xbox One Review

Developed by Room C Games, Croteam and published by Versus Evil. The Hand of Merlin is a turn-based RPG set in Arthurian times. It was released on Xbox One, Series S/X, Playstation 4/5, Nintendo Switch and PC on the 14th of June 2022. The Hand of Merlin - Marvelous Enough To Make A King Proud If there is one genre I love when it comes to gaming, it has to be tactical turn-based RPGs. I could play these kinds of games all day which also makes me very sceptical when a new one is released because it is either very good or very bad. There's no in-between, but having characters from the age of Merlin was too good to pass up. If you enjoyed this review then you can check out my previous one here. Gloomhaven & Jaws Of The Lion PC Review

So you want to know about Gloomhaven eh? Well, if you got to that city it's yer funeral, but I'll tell yous what I know. A few years back, this fella by the name of Isaac Childres designed a board game. Gloomhaven he called it. Bloody fun that thing was. In any case, it got real popular, and suddenly the folks over at Flaming Fowl Studios have an idea. "Hey," they says, "what if we made that Gloomhaven into a video game?" Blam! That was it! Now here we are! The game mixes tactical-RPG gameplay with dungeon crawling and it's bloody marvellous. What? You don't believe me? Well, all right then I'll explain a little more. But remember, when all of yer free time is pulled in by this gem, that you asked for this. Don't come bawling to me when you don't got enough hours in yer day no more. ...

Silt Switch Review

Since it was announced, I’ve paid a fair bit of attention to the conversations around Silt (Spiral Circus, Fireshine Games). Limbo is mentioned as a comparison more often than not. In a way this isn’t surprising. Both indie games share an obvious similarity in their black and white aesthetic. Tom Mead, the lead designer on the project, told me it was a flattering comparison and that PlayDead were one of his favourite studios. But he felt that it was a ‘basic comparison’—only down to the colours. I think he’s right. In a way, I know he’s right. Full disclosure: I’ve known Tom for a long time. We went to university together and have been housemates more than once—in fact, he’s one of my closest friends. Without doubt, this makes my ability to review Silt objectively a little difficult,...

Dolmen PS5 Review

Almost a year after Dolmen was announced at a Koch Media preview event, it is finally here. I've been anticipating this since I saw it and now I finally get to play it. My initial impression last year was that looked like a mixture of Dark Souls and Dead Space - Dark Souls in Space! If executing correctly, that sounds like an amazing idea. Dolmen - Less Like Souls, More Soulless Dolmen is the first major game developed by Brazilian studio Massive Work Studio and published under the newly formed Prime Matter. The game was released on May 20th, 2020 on both generations of PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. A dolmen by definition is a single chamber tomb. Will this game live up to its namesake? Will the game be filled with wonder and treasures, or will it be empty and nothing but bare bones? Rea...
