Double Kick Heroes – Death Metal Madness!

Back in April 2018, I previewed a crazy button bashing game featuring a Gundillac, and a zombie apocalypse, all set to metal music.  Double Kick Heroes looked a very promising game and was set to imminently release.  As with all great plans, however, devs Headbang Club stumbled across financial issues when seeking a publisher and the game was delayed.  They did not waste their time however and decided to expand further onto their already well-received idea.  Fast forward to the present and Double Kick Heroes has now been released onto PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Gameplay To sum the gameplay of Double Kick Heroes, it is a pixel graphic guitar hero that meets the zombie apocalypse but replace the guitar with a drum kit!  The background to the game is to get the daring metal band acro...

Microsoft Dropped A Ton Of News Today – Xbox Game Pass, Series X And More…

We've been in an annoyingly quiet patch for next-gen news as of late. Sony and Microsoft have been playing a game of chicken leading to some frustration from gamers around the globe. That is until yesterday when an unfortunate leak led to Microsoft having to commit to the news of the Xbox Series S. They've followed that up twofold today though with some genuinely amazing announcements. Not only has the price and date of the Xbox Series X been confirmed, but we've also had news about Xbox Game Pass and some of the launch titles on the horizon. The Xbox Series X... First revealed during the Video Game Awards in December 2019, news trickled out at a decent pace for the Xbox Series X. That is until lately when things had become eerily quiet; likely exacerbated by the delay of Halo Inf...

Hotshot Racing – Drifting All The Way To The Podium!

Somebody hit the turbo button on the indie scene a few years ago now and kicked it into high gear.  It has flourished wheel to wheel along with retro gaming, so naturally, new retro-inspired games are a big thing.  Hotshot Racing is a nostalgic love letter to the 90s arcade racing games.  Developed by Lucky Mountain Games and Sumo Digital, who have a fine racing pedigree including Outrun 2, TOCA 3, DiRT 2, F1 2011, and Forza Horizon 2 to name a few.  Published by Curve Digital who specialise in indie games, Hotshot Racing is a very British affair and will be power sliding onto consoles and PC on September 10th.  Now its time to reminisce about skipping school to go to the arcade and pumping 50p coins into Daytona USA. Disclaimer: Thumb Culture does not in any way condone skipping school...

A Leak Forced Microsoft’s Hand – The Xbox Series S Lands 10th November!

If you've been following my articles you'll know I am getting quite frustrated with the Microsoft's and Sony's game of chicken. Unfortunately for Microsoft they've had to suddenly confirm the existence of the Xbox Series S after an unfortunate leak. Now the cynic in me does wonder if this was a genuine leak, or part of the messaging... but that's a conversation for another day. Either way we now have our first details about a date and price for one of these next gen machines! What was announced... The Lockhart has finally been revealed, with the name Xbox Series S. This comes after many leaks, rumours and even official packaging claiming there is an Xbox Series S. It's also launching at $299/£250, which is an incredibly good price. Whilst specifications aren't fully know just yet it'...

Manifold Garden – Up Is Down And Down Is Up?

Manifold Garden – Up Is Down And Down Is Up?

Created as a debut title for William Chyr Studios by a small team of programmers, Manifold Garden is an interesting take on the puzzle-platformer adventure.  Take what you know about physics and toss it out the window. That knowledge is no good here. Up is not necessarily up, and down isn't always down.  Created by William Chyr, who wanted to create a puzzle game that he felt, as a player, he could finish. Manifold Garden was initially revealed with the name Relativity, referring to the M.C. Escher work that inspired it. There are a few behind-the-scenes type videos available on YouTube if you're curious about how this games impossible geometry was pulled off. Currently Manifold Garden is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. PC and Mobile ports are being worked on. ...

Sony, Microsoft – You Know It’s September Right? Any Next Gen News?

When will we hear more about the next generation? You may have seen me summarise the next-gen news for 2020 recently. If not please go check out my post comparing what we know about the 2 next gen machines... At the time of writing it is the 1st September 2020. It is very much now 2-3 months from when some of us will be expecting to lay down a still as of yet undetermined amount of money to buy some new machines. My previous feature talked about the different approaches for each company; Microsoft adopting more of a drip feed of information, whilst Sony adopted the more traditional big bang of news. Now however, we're another major gaming event down (Gamescom 2020) and we're still no closer to finding out anything about the launch of these machines. I am the type of person that g...
