Horizon Zero Dawn Review – Expand your Horizon

Sit back, unwind and let me take you to a vast world that's lush with rolling fields, mountains that lay in a noble line on the spine of the land as if long ago it was a great beast, only to lie down one day and never get up and sunsets that take your breath away. Feeling relaxed yet? Don't be! As right above you is a Stormbird with wings bigger than you've ever seen, ready to tear you apart with one swoop of its tremendous claws and then just in front of you, eyeing you from the grassy verge is a Thunderjaw, ready and waiting to crush you with one swift move from the tip of its armed scythe-like finned tail! Welcome to Horizon Zero Dawn, a PS4-exclusive action role playing game developed by Guerrilla Games, creators of the Killzone franchise and who until recently were pretty much ...

Mass Effect: Andromeda Review – Brave New World?

Mass Effect Andromeda is Bioware’s latest game, touted as an epic, sci-fi action RPG, does it deliver on its promises? Or does it fall short of the lofty bar set by other games in the RPG genre? Read on to find out. Set between the events of Mass Effect 2 and 3, Andromeda casts you as a young explorer searching for a new home for the human race. This begins with a fairly robust character creator and a lengthy prologue mission which sets you up as the new pathfinder, whilst getting to grips with the games mechanics. You’re quickly introduced to your squad mates and family, but with very little back story or exposition it’s hard to care about them in any meaningful way and is one of Andromeda’s biggest flaws. Almost all of the characters you come across are dull and wooden, with odd dialo...

Darknet Review – Taking A Dip Into A Hacking World

Darknet is a game where you're placed in the shoes of an elite hacker. Building up reputation and a whole lot of money. Everyone likes earning money right? unfortunately, the money isn't real but we can always dream. The game is all about hacking and the formula works great, the concept of hacking to me is absolutely awesome. What Darknet does right is the fact it's more complex hacking than the likes of watchdogs and Deus Ex , where they opt for simple one button hacks.   It's a great balance for being fun, simple to learn but hard to master. All fit into a nice little puzzle game at a great price. Upon starting the game up i was thrown straight into the tutorial, working my way into the hacking world. It starts you off in the middle of a digital sphere. surrounded by ma...

Old Time Hockey Review – Slap Shot or Slap Stick?

Ice hockey is known as a brutal, unrelenting sport with hard hits and heavy body checks all the while trying to fit the small puck between small gaps between the goal tenders pads and the netted goal. Old Time Hockey by V7 Entertainment tries to focus on the brutality of the game, with the game returning to the 70s with its afro hair, big moustaches, a severe lack of helmets and bench clearing brawls. Old Time Hockey plays out as you would expect, five verses five on the ice, a view that comes straight from ice hockey games of old, and a unique style with vibrant colours and over the top graphics. With only a few modes to play, the game concentrates on the gameplay in the exhibition mod. You take control of any of the teams that are playable and play a single match, it's the epitome ...

Hidden Folks Review – Hand Drawn

Hidden Folks, by Adriaan De Jongh is a Where’s Wally Clone with a few massive differences. The graphics are hand drawn, black and white, and the sound is all created through mouth, every sound effect from clicking on monkeys, to opening tent doors, they are all voiced by Mr De Jongh and this gives it some great comic relief. Some of the sound effects are basic, but the buzz buzz buzz of the buzzing bees is always fun to listen to. Anyone familiar with Where’s Wally will know the reference at the top of the review, those that aren’t aware of the series of books, essentially you are tasked with finding Wally in the page of the book as well as finding other items throughout the world. It is this game mechanics that Hidden Folks is all about. You get given a list of items to find before...

Typoman Revised Review – Word Up

So I recently got the opportunity to play and enjoy Typoman Revised, and boy did it not dissapoint, from the graphics to the gameplay it was an absolute delight to play. Well not really! So lets start at the begining, Typoman Revised is developed and published by Brainseed Factory, an independant games company from Germany and is available on the Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Wii U and PS4 (reviewed) Typoman is a puzzle platformer, which see's you trying to beat each screen by using words to solve puzzles ranging from simple to damn hard. Now i struggle with word puzzles, give me numbers any day of the week, but words are a different kettle of fish for me. You play as the HERO (with the letters making up your body) and you are thrown into this dark and dreary Limbo-esque world where monsters a...

The Golf Club 2 – What Can It Achieve?

So The Golf Club 2 (TGC2) has recently has its launch window announced and this prompted me to take a look at its competition and why TGC2 will be the best golf game out. So it may not have all of the sponsorships and official courses that its EA counterpart had, but what the EA game lacks and TGC has in abundance is something that every golfer out there aims to achieve, and that my friends is FEEL. What is feel? I hear you asking, well if you speak to a golfer, feel is simply knowing how the club is moving in terms of the shaft all the way down to the head of the club, all through the swing. This allows you to have a better confidence of making good contact with the ball. Now on EA's efforts this was missing, you would just have to press down on the left thumbstick, wait for the ...

Mahjong Deluxe 3 Review – PONG!

Mahjong, the tile-based puzzle game from China during the Qing Dynasty has yet another released as a video game. These games have been released year after year on various formats and yet they always seem to pop up so there must be a fan base out there somewhere. Having got the opportunity to give the latest version of the matching pairs game by EnsenaSoft a playthrough I couldn't resist. Puzzle games are scarily addictive and even more scarily simplistic in their design, find a pair, essentially that is the essence of the game. So what is new about Mahjong Deluxe 3? Not a lot, the game covers 8 worlds with a grand total of 640 puzzles ranging from nice and easy to ridiculously complicated puzzle boards. The best addition that you might enjoy is the move onto 3D puzzle boards, allowing y...
