Si’s WASD Highlights

A couple of months ago fellow TC writer Jas and I headed oFf to Tobacco Dock, London to see the latest games on display at WASD. It was filled with indie devs galore and along with a few larger developers, made a fun-filled day out. I've been to Tobacco Dock previously for work, so was aware of how much space there is to be filled and having never been to EGX Rezzed, I was expecting the venue to be packed to the rafters with both exhibitors and the public. However for a Friday it was eerily quiet, the bonus being there were no queues to check out the games! Here are my show highlights! Be sure to check out Jas' here! Souldiers Developed by Retro Forge and published by Dear Villagers, Souldiers is a sprawling fantasy world 2d platformer. Inspired by Soulslike games you have to b...

Hush: Crane – An Interview with Co-Founder Jack Attridge

Breaking down the boundaries of interaction, for me that is where gaming gets interesting. Something a little different from button mashing or learning sequences of moves. Hush: Crane by developers Flavourworks, gives gamers a glimpse of how immersion can reach a new level. Using amazing-looking FMV and an engine known as "TouchVideo", your touch-screen gestures transition to real-world movements and actions. Each decision affects the story and sends you down a unique path. A taster of what is coming can be found for free on the Samsung Galaxy store, just look up "Hush: Crane" or click here. Having played the available episode multiple times, I was amazed at how many different outcomes there were in just the short time I had to play. Running just like you are in a movie, you can pan and...

Let’s Sing 2022 With Baga Chipz!

Here at Thumb Culture, we love it when gaming brings people together, either through virtual worlds or in real life. The recently released Let's Sing 2022, the first karaoke game available for the new console generation, is a great example of this! The latest addition to the critically acclaimed karaoke franchise is now available on Xbox Series S/X, One X, PlayStation 4 and 5 and the Nintendo Switch. To celebrate the launch of Let's Sing 2022, we decided to explore our love of karaoke within team TC and beyond, by chatting to the one and only Baga Chipz! But before we jump into that, I decided to test out the musical tastes of the Thumb Culture team by asking them to name their favourite karaoke tracks. The results were, let's just say, varied. Let's Sing: Thumb Culture Edition ...

Animmal Studios Talk About The Way Of Wrath!

In the latest in our series of developer interviews, we recently had the chance to talk to the independent developers behind upcoming RPG adventure The Way Of Wrath, Animmal Studios. The Way Of Wrath is an exciting new, story-driven turn-based tactical RPG set in an ancient world governed by shamanistic laws. You explore the beautifully handcrafted landscape, rebuild defences of an old fort, take on quests and unite war-torn people against the imminent wrath of enemy forces. Whether you lead with an iron fist, diplomacy, or trickery is up to you, but with every choice you make, you must be prepared to face the consequences.   Animmal Studios Developer Interview We're really excited to see this game come to life and so were glad to catch up with its two developers and co-fo...

Sunlight’s Krillbite Studio Chats To Thumb Culture

If you're a fan of narrative-driven, atmospheric experiences then you're going to love Krillbite Studio's Sunlight, which was released on Steam earlier this month. Here at Thumb Culture, we've had the chance to review Sunlight and chat to the game's designer and writer about the inspiration behind it. Sunlight is a lovingly-crafted short experience from the award-winning Norwegian studio. Inspired by the work of famous Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, Sunlight takes place in an atmospheric and stunning forest. Players explore their surroundings in first person as the story unfurls around them through a voiceover from the trees. It's visually intriguing from the start, but its when the audio kicks in and the storytelling begins that things really start to get interesting! With lush ...

EGX 2017 – Interview with COO of Slightly Mad Studios Rod Chong

So whilst at EGX I got the opportunity to ask Rod Chong the Chief Operating Officer a few questions about Project Cars 2. So here for your reading pleasure is the transcript of that interview. Stu: This game feels a bit more raw, its different, its definitely more realistic. I play with a Fanatec wheel and its ridiculous. Rod: The philosophy behind the tyres in particular has changed, it was a couple of months after project cars 1 was out and we sat down with a couple of Bentley racing drivers (Guy Smith), put them in their cars and they were going around Bathurst and going up the hill and the back end stepped out, he corrected as you would a real car and spun. He looked at us, "that's not real, i would have been able to catch it" and then we stuck David Brabban in the simulator,...

Exclusive Interview with Battle Chaser’s Joe Madureira

Following on from my Battle Chasers article that I wrote the other week (which can be found here), fellow Thumb Culturist Jason was lucky enough to meet the creator of the comic book come computer game Joe Madureira while he was at the THQ Nordic London ShowCase.  Enjoy his interview! Jason: Hi Joe, I’m Jason and I’m from Thumb Culture and the guys have come up with a list of questions for you.  One of our guys Glyn, really wanted to come down but couldn’t unfortunately. Joe: Did you guys just do a write up, like a preview? I feel like I may have read something. Jason: Yeah, Glyn did a write up and absolutely loved the game. Joe: Yeah it was a glowing and positive preview, it was really cool. Jason: He said the soundtrack was really amazing. I was listening out for it and it...
