Wholesome Direct 2021 Highlights

Wholesome Direct is a non-profit showcase run by Wholesome Games where volunteers curate games that they find to be particularly positive, thoughtful, uplifting, or cozy. I look forward to these showcases the most each time they are announced and this year's E3 presentation was no different. 75 games in total were shown in some way and I've picked out 10 of them below to give you the trailer and a brief description. Many more of the games deserve attention though, so make sure you stop by the Wholesome Direct website for a full run down and links to each game. EGX 2019 – Game(s) Of The Show!

So EGX 2019 has come and gone, and with it, a whole raft of games played, watched, experienced. We could write up all about the individual games that the team got to play, but we would be releasing content until next years show! Instead, we thought it best to give a short run down from each person that was at the show and for them to give their own personal "Game of the Show!" So without further ado, let's get started! Stuart S Having been to EGX for a number of years previously, I kinda knew what to expect when walking through the doors at the eXcel London. A Whole swathe of indie games surrounded by those classy and shiny triple-A titles. Personally I always spend more time around the indie sections, namely the Rezzed and Leftfield areas! This year at EGX 2019 it was no different...

Playstation State of Play – Roundup and Release Dates

Wow, I don't know about you but having just sat through the Playstation State of Play Live event there was a right mixed bag of games to look forward to!  I'm excited over some of the forthcoming releases, and also worried at the same that I will also have even less money in my bank account as a result! First off we saw the very strange looking Humanity from Enhanced games, coming in 2020, which reminded me of a mix between lemmings and we are billions as waves of people seemingly snaked across ledges while avoiding being shot and maimed, the end goal seemingly being a bright white light.  Not much was said but graphically there was a lot going on! Call of Duty Modern Warfare by Infinity Ward, releasing October 25th was up next, having played the beta over the weekend I felt very...

EGX Rezzed 2018 Review

Wow what a busy weekend I had the other day! I had the great delight of checking out the latest indie offerings at EGX Rezzed in London where there was so much to see and play!  With just under 200 games on display set across two floors of Tobacco Dock beside the river Thames, I was in gaming heaven.  Showcases by SEGA, Nintendo and Xbox were equally matched by the talents on display within the large Indie rooms that housed the majority of up and coming titles. Here is my pick of up and coming games that you should look out for! Another Sight by Italian developers Lunar Great Wall Studios tells the tale of a young girl called Kit who suffers the misfortune of a tunnel collapsing while out exploring.  The accident results in her losing her sight, creating a surreal world around he...

EGX 2017 Daily Summary – Day 2

If you haven't read the EGX day 1 summary then head over to here and have a quick read...go on it's ok, I can wait.... Welcome back! Now it's time for the summary of Day 2, as the previous article it will be a short summary of the days events, purely so that you get a flavour for what EGX is all about. So let's get stuck in with the first game... Raging Justice When I received the press release for Raging Justice is instantly reminded me of classic side-scrolling beat em ups such as Street Of Rage and Double Dragon, but with a really nice claymation style to the game. You can imagine my excitement when I took control of the game and it was EXACTLY what I expected. MakinGames is made up purely of Anna and Nic and after speaking to them both you can see exactly why they wanted to ...

EGX 2017 Daily Summary – Day 1

So it's that time of year again and rather than bombarding you with tens of other articles, like you would find elsewhere, we at Thumb Culture thought it might be best just to give you a bit more of a personal account of the day. So that if you have never been to an EGX show before, you will get a taste of what you might expect. The day started with a bit of a wild goose chase trying to determine where you pick up press passes from, if only we knew that its the same place as EVERYBODY ELSE! Rather than being sent all the way to the other end of the Birmingham NEC. Once we picked up our press passes, we were straight in and faced with the familiar low light setting, noise heavy playground for gamers' to try out the newest and latest games. Having made a few appointments it was time fo...

THQ Nordic – Exclusive London Showcase Event

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to THQ Nordic's Showcase Event located within a dark eerie crypt deep below St Andrew's Church in Holborn, London.  Having made my way via land and rail I was excited to be one of the first to have a play at the latest builds of their forthcoming titles; Battle Chasers: NightWar, Elex and SpellForce 3 and also get to interview the team behind them. As I descended into the cool and dimly lit dungeon-like crypt I was greeted by the PR crew, Dead Good Media, who enthusiastically led me to the 3 banks of neon lit gaming PC's where I would be spending as long as I wanted playing each of the games.  I seriously couldn't wait. Battle Chasers: NightWar was the first game on my list to play, especially after the feedback from fellow ThumbCulturis...
