Wholesome Direct 2021 Highlights

Wholesome Direct is a non-profit showcase run by Wholesome Games where volunteers curate games that they find to be particularly positive, thoughtful, uplifting, or cozy. I look forward to these showcases the most each time they are announced and this year's E3 presentation was no different. 75 games in total were shown in some way and I've picked out 10 of them below to give you the trailer and a brief description. Many more of the games deserve attention though, so make sure you stop by the Wholesome Direct website for a full run down and links to each game. Story Of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town Review – Farming Simulator

Story Of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is quite the mouthful. It's the latest in the Story of Seasons franchise. Those familiar with Harvest Moon will definitely want to keep an eye out for this one. For those unfamiliar, Harvest Moon isn't the game it once was. As licences and IPs moved around, the original crew were left without access to the namesake. Cue Story of Seasons launching in 2014; Harvest Moon through and through just under another guise. Fewer monsters to slay; more harvesting, mining, and friendships. You're also fortunat...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Switch Review

This is my first ever Animal Crossing game. Somehow previous titles have flown under my radar. Quarantined within a fairly small flat with a health pandemic circling the globe and many economies in free-fall, the carefree socialisation and mingling in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons trailers looked massively appealing. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is like a tiny ray of sunshine peeking through ever-darkening clouds. On your not-quite-deserted island nothing can (seriously) hurt you, and the only bugs you can catch are those which are too slow for your net. You don’t need to get into arguments about who is in charge or worry about where your next pay cheque is going to come from. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is exactly what isolated, confined, frightened people need right now. It’s q...
