Circuit Breakers Review – Die Robot

Circuit Breakers is a fast-paced multi-player top down shoot ’em up where you can get together with five of your friends ( or alone like I did ) and fight to rid the universe of an intergalactic robot army or compete against them and rid the universe of each other! Far in the future, advances in artificial intelligence have created the first truly sapient AI, FIRST- short for First Intelligent Robotic System model Two- system. Fearing for it’s safety in a galaxy of savage humans, FIRST escaped to the depths of space. On a distant planet it finally landed, building an army for their inevitable return… Game Play So, you find yourself on a rainy day with nowhere to go and nothing to play because your 100 + uncompleted games is just too much responsible right now and in a world increasingly ...

AereA Review – Musical Hit or Musical Tragedy?

AereA is a music themed action RPG (ARPG) developed by Triangle Studios and published by SOEDESCO.  Presented in 4K resolution, you are to play as one of the Great Maestro Guido's disciples as you explore the mysterious floating island of Aezir.  Your quest? to find 9 primordial instruments in order to restore balance and peace to the world. With a fair amount of ARPGs currently currently on the market such as Victor Vran and Super Dungeon Bros, I was wondering how AereA would squeeze itself into the genre and set it apart from the others. Gameplay The intro kicks in and a simple menu appears set to a background containing Aezir broken into a number of smaller islands and a floating airship.  Selecting "start game" I embark on choosing my save slot and selecting my character. ...

ZHEROS Review – The Forgotten Land

ZHEROS by Rimlight Studios is a fun, family friendly 3D beat 'em up that is available on Xbox One, PC and most recently PlayStation 4.  ZHEROS can be played either in single player or two player co-op mode.  Your mission? To take on an epic journey through distant and unknown galaxies in an attempt to stop the evil Dr Vendetta from taking over the universe with his mutilated twisted minions. Rimlight attempts to bring back the classic sideways scroller beat 'em up that has been a successful formula since the days of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe.  So how does ZHEROS stack within this genre? Lets take a look. Selecting your character you can choose to play as either the strong and dimwitted Mike, the smart and agile Captain Dorian or with the new "Forgotten Land" DLC, as Thione. ...

Crawl Review – Retro Hit? Or Creepy Miss?

Crawl is a roguelike, brawler indie video game by Australian developer Powerhoof and I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review this quirky retro gem. Crawl is (appropriately) a dungeon crawler with an 8-bit heart of gold. The art style and music are pure retro: Modelled after arcade dungeon crawlers, they manage to somehow give the hero and monsters their own personalities and a trippy, kinetic feel. If Atari’s classic Gauntlet (the 1985 original) was three-quarters view instead of top-down, it might have looked like this... Gameplay The main player advances through randomly generated dungeons as a human hero while up to three other spirit players control the dungeon's enemies and traps to kill the main player. The spirit player who kills the human hero swaps roles to ...
