Project Nimbus Review – Sky Wars With Flying Mechs

Okay, no, let’s get this ironed out right away, Project Nimbus isn’t a game based on the Nimbus 2000 from Harry Potter. What it is however, is an intense, action packed, airborne mech shooter that’s bound to get you nose-to-screen, and teeth grinding. Project Nimbus has recently just flown its way out of Early Access on the 26th of September 2017, and is being developed by GameCrafterTeam, a development team of four, and an additional two composers. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic Earth in which the player controls mechs, otherwise known in-game as, “BattleFrames”. These giant suits are equipped with missiles and automatic weapons, powerful jets to enable them to fly, and heavily armoured for intense sky battles. Each BattleFrame pilot have their own styles of fighting, and while the gam...

Vostok Inc Review – A Plunder Through Space And Time

Nosebleed Interactive bring us their second offering, Vostok Inc. Build and destroy seem to be the main themes, build your empire and destroy your enemies. Seems fairly simple, but have the small independent company landed on the right planets? Time to fire up those boosters and blast into some space action. Gameplay Vostok Inc is essentially a twin stick spaceship shooter, however it's not only a twin stick shooter. Vostok Inc is the company you work for, and companies like to make money. Vostok Inc are no exception. You get a basic introduction to gameplay, move this stick to move, and this one to shoot, press this button to boost etc... Warm those thumbs up, you're gonna need them. The premise of the game is to get rich, you get moolah from shooting enemies and asteroids, so get s...

Ruiner Review – Cyberpunk Bloodbath

Ruiner is a Cyberpunk anime stylised top-down action shooter. It's the debut release from Reikon Games and produced by Devolver Digital. Before we delve too deeply into the world of Ruiner, as its Reikon Games' debut, I just wanted to give you a little info into their background. Reikon is a studio based in Warsaw that was founded in 2014. Four veteran game designers who have such titles as The Witcher Series, Dying Light and Shadow Warrior to their name. With that level of experience and knowledge, I'm pretty excited to see what they have given us in their first Indi release. Ruiner is very much a story driven game set in the year 2091 in a Metropolis known as Rengkok. You take on the role of a somewhat augmented man/machine sociopath hybrid who goes on a brutal vendetta after a voice ...

Plague Road Review – Fear The Reaper?

Plague Road, by game development studio Arcade Distillery, is the result of what happens when a kickstarter campaign successfully reaches out for backers, well 1119 backers to be accurate.  Requiring a $30,000 goal, the support shown for the project almost doubled the target with $55,734 raised. So what is Plague Road all about I here you cry? With a name like that it sure isn't going to be about fluffy bunnies and happy times.  Plague Road is a combination of a sideways adventure scroller with turn based tactical battles that sees you playing a lone doctor who is travelling through a land that has been ravished by a plague.  The quest? to search for survivors following the outbreak across a series of regions having left the relative safety of your farm.  As the story unfolds you learn ...

Prey Review – A Delayed Perspective

Developed by Arkane Studios, also known for Dishonored, and published by Bethesda, Prey was released back on May 5th 2017. You play as the scientist Morgan Yu aboard the space station Talos 1 in the year 2032. You and your brother Alex are part of the family company TranStar, who have repurposed the space station from a prison into an alien research facility. TranStar has been experimenting with the Typhon aliens to create neuromods which enhance and alter humans’ abilities, talents, and life expectancy. Everything goes to hell when the ship becomes overrun with the Typhon and you must venture forth to address the problem. The narrative is set in an alternate future, open world environment, which allows you to forge your own path. The game is more like a spiritual successor to 1994’s Syste...

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Review – You Did It Again Naughty Dog

The Uncharted series has been one of Naughty Dog’s finest creations, commercially and critically, without a shadow of a doubt; although I have to give a huge shout out to The Last of Us being on par as well. So after four main games with the brilliant Nathan Drake, one of Playstation’s finest developing partners has decided to expand the series with a new, shorter than normal entry in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Only this time, here come the girls. So is it any good? You bet your arse it is. Gameplay Nathan who? With “what’s his name” out of the picture, focus shifts to long-time supporting character Chloe Frazer, voiced by Claudia Black with her trademark wicked purr, who we join in the middle of the hunt for the Tusk of Ganesh in a war-torn region of India. In a nice touch for us fans ...

Sneaky Bears PSVR Review – Bears Everywhere

Sneaky Bears is here on the PSVR and is published by War Ducks LTD. This is an on the rails PSVR shooter using move controllers. You are trying to stop the evil Frankie from destroying humanity after he was discarded by the family who owned him. So, let the shooting begin. Gameplay Sneaky Bears has three modes, there is Survival Mode, Fire Mode and Bomb Mode. The game controls made me feel like I’d been thrown into an action movie. Even though I was wielding dual toy pistols I felt like a bad ass. First of all, there's Survival Mode, you fight waves of angry bears with a sole purpose of taking you out. First off you’ll notice your guns are holstered like a cowboy, on the left is a shotgun and on the right is a pistol. Reach down and draw!! Blam Blam I am an unstoppable gunslinge...

Nidhogg 2 Review – Worms Everywhere

Nidhogg 2 is a quirky hacking, slashing, stabbing fencing game. Which is now 16bit instead of 8bit like the original. It's a hard game to describe but I'll do my very best. Gameplay Nidhogg 2 gameplay is split into three different modes. You have Arcade Mode, which is yourself versus the computer. There is Local Multiplayer which is a good old-fashioned on the couch war with your friends. This can be the classic one on one, or you can set up a tournament for three to eight players. Finally, there is Online Multiplayer where you can play ranked matches or unranked matches. Again, these are one on one battles. Nidhogg 2 plays like a game of tug of war. There are seven screens and you both begin on the middle screen. You then kill your opponent anyway possible, you can use your fee...

DeadCore Review – Dead To The Core

Developed by 6 friends who met while studying game design in France, who call themselves 5 Bit Games, and published by Bandai Namco. DeadCore – previously named DeadLock started life as an entry in the 7DFPS Game Jam back in 2012, an event which tasks developers with creating a first-person shooter in just one week. After a minor crowd funding campaign, development began in January 2013, aimed at turning their creation into a full commercial release. They soon caught the eye of publisher Bandai Namco, who promptly snapped the game up. Deadcore suffers in one particular area: it has no purpose. Game Play If you’re looking for a game with story ( Who isn’t? ) I’m afraid you will be in a state of unease with Deadcore because quite frankly, there isn’t one, but more disappointingly the game ...

LawBreakers Review – Definitely NOT Overwatch

LawBreakers, originally called Blue Streak, was a free to play game or that's what the theory was. However, that has all changed. It comes in two flavours available on the PlayStation Store, the Standard version at £24.99 or the Deluxe version with some extra skins at £29.99. The back story to the game wasn't explained very well whilst in-game. This left me having to search online to find out the story behind LawBreakers. This wasn’t hard but a minor inconvenience all the same. LawBreakers is set in an alternate future after an event called “the shattering”. This wasn’t really made clear but at my personal guess it was some sort of act of mother nature, possibly? This event has caused problems with the laws of gravity. Anyway there are two factions in the game “The Law” the law enfor...
