Playing Doom…30 Years Later – A Retrospective Review

Almost 30 years ago, id Software released what is still considered one of the most defining and important games in video game history. I am of course talking about Doom. Doom is an FPS action game developed and published by id Software and was released on December 10th, 1993. The game was originally published with only the first nine levels on MS-DOS but due to its success, the full game was later ported to Windows 95, the Sega 32X, Atari Jaguar, Super Nintendo, and then pretty much every well-known game console you can name. Not to mention ATMs, barcode scanners, and...pregnancy tests. If you played video games in the early '90s and you had a computer, you most definitely played Doom. This game defined a generation and set the standard for FPS shooters. It was one of the most talked...

Call of Duty: Vanguard Review

Another year, another Call of Duty game, and Call of Duty: Vanguard marks its eighteenth main entry into the franchise. This iteration sees the series return to its roots, that of a World War II setting. I do prefer the exploration of this era as opposed to the highly fictionalised games set in the modern-day, as they let you play out events that actually happened. Call of Duty: Vanguard - "If You're Going Through Hell, Keep Going", Winston Churchill This year's game has been developed by Sledgehammer Games with Treyarch handling the Zombies portion of the game, and once again, Activision is publishing. This is the third title developed by Sledgehammer, with the other two being Advanced Warfare and WWII. They did a great job with WWII so I was really excited about getting stuck into this...

Maneater: Truth Quest DLC Review

Developed and published by Tripwire Interactive. Maneater: Truth Quest is the DLC to the hugely popular video game Maneater. Released on Playstation 4/5,  Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC on 31st of August 2021. Maneater: Truth Quest - It's Never Save To Go Back In The Water When I first played Maneater I was absolutely amazing at how a game where you play as a shark could be. It blew me away at how good it was and when I finished it. I remember thinking that it had so much to offer and I couldn't wait to see if they were going to release some DLC for the game. Well in August I got my wish as the Truth Quest DLC was released. So let's jump back in the water and take a chunk out of this DLC, shall we? If you enjoyed this review then why not check out my review for the base game of Man...

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Review

Welcome to my review of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. That's a mouthful, isn't it! The return of the iconic trilogy is developed by Grove Street Games (GTA Chinatown Wars, Max Payne iOS, and Android) and published by Rockstar Games (L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption). We all know the story of these games. We play as someone who starts their story as a down and out, working our way up the chain of organised crime gangs. I was kindly given a PlayStation review key for the GTA remastered trilogy, and I played it on the PlayStation 5. Three Iconic Cities, Three Epic Stories. Plus Lots Of Bugs. So how does the return of three of my favourite games from my younger days play out? Continue reading to find out. Check out my previous review here where I played Airborne K...

Pumpkin Jack Review

Developed by Nicolas Meyssonnier and published by Headup Games, Pumpkin Jack is a spooky 3D platformer. It was released on PC in October 2020 and then released on Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch in October 2021. Pumpkin Jack - A True Ode To Old School Platformers Now for as long as I can remember, I have played platformers and they have always been my favorite genre when it comes to video games. There's just something about the simplicity of them but yet even so of the greatest platforming games look easy but are a real challenge. So if platformers are your thing then let's crack on with this Pumpkin Jack review. If you enjoyed this review then why not check out my latest one here. Demon Turf Review

Demon Turf is an exciting 3D platformer from developer Fabraz and publisher Playtonic Friends. Fabraz has been incredibly busy making Demon Turf available on the 4th November 2021 on PC (Steam, Epic Store, and GOG), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch. From the moment I saw the trailer, I knew I wanted to review Demon Turf. It looked like a mad scientist had crossed Mario 64 with Jet Set Radio. These are two of my favourites, so I couldn't wait to see the result and jumped at the opportunity to try the Steam version. So does it live up to my lofty expectations? Find out below in my Demon Turf review. Demon Turf - Can Beebz capture the Demon King's crown? Our heroine Beebz is a 1000-year-old demon who wants to become the Demon Queen. To do so, she must conquer four Turfs, overt...

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries Review

In a surprise turn of events MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries arrived onto PS5. This was the first time the series had been on PlayStation consoles since MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. For those of us old enough to remember that was on the original Playstation back in 1995.  Craig reviewed the PC version back in 2019 where he awarded it the Thumb Culture GOLD award.  To see his review click here. Mechwarrior 5: "Systems Are Critical" Sadly there was a rough first impression that gave me cause for concern when I sat down to experience Mercenaries and all of the available DLC packs. Several crashes caused me to uninstall and reinstall. It is worth noting here that this was after the game had officially launched. Hardly the start to the series that I was looking forward to.  My game-breaki...

War Mongrels Review

Today I bring you my review of a new PC game named War Mongrels. This game was released on to Steam on October 19th, 2021, and is brought to us by developers Destructive Creations (IS Defense, Ancestors Legacy, Hatred) and publishers Surefire.Games (Heroes of Hammerwatch). War Mongrels is a real-time tactical action game akin to others like Commandos, Desperados, and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Take control of a group of German, Polish, and Lithuanian freedom fighters and help them fight through German outposts, patrols, and villages. Back 4 Blood – Team Review

Its time for another TC Group review, and this time it's Back 4 Blood that gets the treatment! Check out what the members of the TC team thought of this from developers, Turtle Rock Studios. What We Thought Martin During my playtime of the beta of Back 4 Blood open beta, I did not enjoy this game. However, upon playing the game on full release I can safely say that I was very wrong with my opinion. Back 4 Blood is a brilliant game. The gunplay is great, each weapon feels completely different, and the tools and accessories you can use vary quite a lot. The horde of Ridden charging at you is intense and will get you sitting on the edge of your seat especially when the "Special Ridden" come for you. These range from massive "Exploders" who are actually more dangerous when they get kille...
