In a time where its commonplace for a controller to cost £200+, you might think that it’s all a bit much. I’m here with a Razer offering originally released back in 2021. But amongst more expensive modern competitors does the Wolverine V2 Chroma hold up? Could this be the controller you’ve been looking for?
Razer Sharp
Coming in at around £100, the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma looks the part. Does it perform? Let’s plug it in and check it out.
Design
As with most controllers these days, the key question being is it Xbox or PlayStation layout? Well, in this instance we are firmly in the Xbox layout. Mostly because the Wolverine V2 Chroma was designed for the Xbox. So it’s got those comfy asymmetric thumbsticks alongside the traditional face buttons. However, if you flip it over, you will be greeted with a few extras.
Four rear buttons greet you, as well as a couple of trigger stop switches. Don’t worry if that wasn’t enough buttons, there are two more remappable buttons on the top. Each is able to be remapped via either the Synapse Software or the Razer Controller Setup app on the Xbox.

Being a wired controller, you do have to have it attached to your system of choice at all times. That’s not such a bad thing as you get a nice long cable in the box.
Also, if you fancy different shaped thumbstick caps, you get a set of short and extended grips included. Giving you greater flexibility, no matter how you hold your controller. This really helps with fatigue when gaming. I used this controller a lot and never once had an instance where my hands cramped up or got sore.
Features
Now comes the bread and butter of a controller. With a certain amount of expectation when it comes to an expensive controller, the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma is actually pretty well armed in the features department.
Starting with those aforementioned trigger stop switches. This little slider greatly reduces the travel of the main triggers. Meaning that you can hit that fire button quicker than someone with a larger activation distance. Each button you press is super responsive as well. With Razer’s Mecha-Tactile system for tactile feedback and super fast responsiveness. It allows you to press any of the buttons and be assured of the desired outcome.
The controller comes with modified L-shaped hand grips. Giving greater ergonomics for a more comfortable hold. The non-slip rubber surface on the grips just gives you greater comfort, especially when the gameplay gets intense.

Oh and don’t forget that Chroma, with 16.8 million colours available, you can customise it however you wish. The Wolverine V2 Chroma even reacts dynamically to certain games. Adding to your immersion as you play through your favourite games.
Final Thoughts
So is it worth picking this controller up? Hell yes!
With a great number of features packed into a relatively well-priced controller. The Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma may have been out for a little while, but it’s not running behind some of the newer controllers.
The Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma Controller gets the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
