The main game taking up a lot of my time is Metaphor: Refantazio, which came out this October. I’ve enjoyed it so far, although outside of review games, I have only played Persona 5. JRPGs are something I enjoy, but usually when it’s turn-based, it’s a little hard for me to really get stuck in. The story of Metaphor: Refantazio is both simplistic and complicated, which I don’t mind. It’s a typical “try to change the world for the better by finding like-minded individuals” game. The way they go about dealing with harsh topics is interesting with the game dealing with Classism and Racial Bias.
I still haven’t gotten used to how the calendar system works, which frustrates me at times. Such as dedicating days to help build bonds and then some for grinding out levels for my archetypes. When I am grinding out level, however, it feels nice to switch off and just chill to some music while repeating dungeons. Character designs are okay. Some I love more than others like Heismays, Mrs Fabienne, Briggita, and the adorable Maria. But others I can’t help but cringe at. Sorry Hulkenberg, but the bangs just don’t suit you and your personality is meh.
The Archetypes have gripped my attention the most, not because oh they play cool. I’m just someone who loves various designs for creatures, especially for monsters.
One thing Metaphor has shown me is, man, I am bad at planning certain days for a shopping spree? Idlesday is the in-game day for discounts on everything and apparently I always seem to have a cut scene ready to take up the whole day or travelling to a new area to level up. The best way I’ve figured to get around this is using the Merchant Archetype to earn extra money while farming monsters. Little annoyed that the game doesn’t allow his abilities to stack when companions have him equipped, but I guess the game is like that for balance.
Well, at the time of writing this, I’m about 70 hours in level 50 and at the Dragon Temple on Virga Island. I can’t wait to see what else Metaphor has to reveal. I am enjoying it, but it definitely has a few “eh” moments. Interested in playing Metaphor: Refantazio? click here.
