Observer Nintendo Switch Review – The Handheld Horror You Can’t Put Down

Ladies, Gents and Cyborgs, I give you our latest addition to the Thumb Culture family, Coral!  Enjoy her first review! Observer is a psychological horror game developed by the Bloober team and published by Aspyr. The game was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox one, Pc in 2017 and very recently the Nintendo switch. It is based in 2084 and begins by telling you about a “digital plague”. You play as a man called Daniel Lazarski aka Observer, who is a detective. The future is robotic arms, legs, hearts and metal bits in your head, atleast this is how the Bloober team envision the year 2084 to be. If you’re wanting a game that keeps you in the moment and truly zoned into the storyline, Observer is the one for you! From buzzing residents of the creepy slums block to going to the tattoo shop for ...

Youtubers Life OMG! Xbox1 Review – Eat, Sleep, Edit Video, Repeat…..

I think it best that I add a caveat before starting my review of Youtubers Life OMG! I'm old. Well, old in gaming terms. I don't play Fortnite (cue the haters lol!) and can remember when games were in black and white, there were only three tv channels, Freddo's cost 1p and Wagon wheels were bigger etc, etc. Hopefully you get the gist! However I also understand and indeed use Twitch, Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat and most forms of social media. I also know who Joe Sugg is (unfortunately) and Arron Crascall, Discoboy, Jake Paul, Pewdiepie and others of that ilk. However Youtubers Life OMG! is not really aimed at the likes of me. It is very much for a younger audience who aspire to have a Youtube channel and become social media influencers. When I think of social media influencers I immediatel...

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics Nintendo Switch Review – Lovecraftian Horror On A Tactical Scale

When given the opportunity to review Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics I wasn't sure what to think of the alternate reality World War II set Xcom clone. Developed by Auroch Digital and published by Ripstone Ltd. Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a tactical squad command game based on the RPG spinoff to Call of Cthulhu; Achtung! Cthulhu by British board game company Modiphius Entertainment. Kickstarted in February 2018, the game smashed it's goal and achieved most of its stretch goals. Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. I got to play it on the Nintendo Switch for this review, so let's jump in! Gameplay Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is an isometric squad-based strategy game in the same vein as Xcom. Set during the second world war, Nazis ...

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition Switch Review – Axe, Smash and Bash!

I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game before but always remember when I worked in Game over ten years ago that new versions were always a sellout. However, as a PC gamer, it has never really been on my radar.  Sure, there was a Dynasty Warriors 4 released back in 2005 but it was a port, which I historically stayed clear of. This past Christmas I was lucky enough to receive a Nintendo Switch and even though this version is out on PC, the game felt more at home on the Switch.  Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition was developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo. It was released not only on Nintendo Switch and PC but is also available on Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4. With a massive following and a lot of people loving the game, it's my chance ...

Rain World: An intensifying survival platformer experience!

Rain World is a gorgeous and well-developed fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. You are the endearing part-slug and part-cat hero of the story. You’ve just fallen to the depths after attempting to escape the flood with your friends and family. Now you need to defy the odds and find a way back to your family. Developed by Vigeocult. It is an intense platformer, that’s available on Steam, Playstation and Nintendo Switch. It seems like a beautiful addition to the Nintendo Switch library of games and will keep you well entertained on the go. Gameplay You’ll need to decide if you want to play the role of Monk, Survivor or Hunter (although this isn’t available from the beginning). Each role acts as a different level of difficulty, so starting out as a Monk is a good place to beg...

Lego DC Super-Villains: Sometimes it’s good to be bad!

It is that time of year again when most gamer's attentions are on which of the mega Triple A titles they are going to spend their hard earned cash on. This year has seen some absolutely epic games released in what is always an exciting time for gamers. It is therefore very easy for games to slip under the radar and with yet another entry in the long running Lego series released you could be forgiven for thinking that it's not worth looking at. However, although many of the usual elements are present Lego DC Super-villains could be just the ticket if you fancy a break from endless horse riding or hunting down murderous Greek cultists. Gameplay To be fair to both Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and Traveller's Tales the Lego video games have been massively successful and popu...

Catastronauts Review – Space Madness!

Taking on space with the Catastronauts by Intertia Game Studios is great fun, a couch co-op experience that seems familiar but give you a great variation on the formula. Come with us as we embark on a space adventure unlike any you have experienced. Gameplay In traditional couch co op style, Catastronauts lets you and three friends take control of your own ship. After picking your character you are greeted with a basic tutorial which effectively is a screen that shows you the buttons. Simplistic is the best way to describe the controls. Pick up, Activate and run faster is pretty much all that you will be using. Once Catastronauts has taken you through the controls its straight into battle against an enemy ship.  So each round has a different challenge, you have to fire your weapon...

V Rally 4 – Return of the King?

We haven't seen a V-Rally game since 2002 with the third instalment hitting the Playstation 2. Fast forward 16 years and we are lucky enough to be graced with V-Rally 4. Will it be a return to the top? Or has that time out really affected the gaming franchise that Kylotonn wants to bring back to life? Lets find out! Gameplay As you can expect from a racing game, the game is all about racing (obvs), but how does it feel? Well lets start off by saying that it feels decent. Its not up to the same standards as other racing games like DiRT and the F1 series, but it holds its own as an arcade feel racer. The cars are twitchy and responsive when you get the hang of them. Don't expect to be able to throw the cars around corners without a fight though. Within V-Rally 4 there are a number of di...

Guts and Glory Review (18+) – Blood, Gore and Mayhem!

Oh my freakin' god what have I just played!  Let's get this said first.  Guts and Glory is certainly not for the faint hearted or those that don't like the sight of the red stuff.   Blood litters the streets, parts of limbs hang from hooks, my bicycle is in tatters and I am flying through the air after hitting a claymore mine.  Yep it can only be HakJak Production's gruesome racing/action game Guts and Glory!  Available across all formats and winner of both the IndieDB Editor's and Player's Choice award, was I going to find a great game or just some over the top blood bath of a gaming project? Gameplay Simply put, Guts and Glory requires you to race your character from one point to another through checkpoints within a makeshift 3D world while avoiding all sorts of everyday hazards su...

Aces Of The Luftwaffe: Squadron – Review – Flying High?

Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron by German developer Handy Games, who incidentally were acquired by THQ Nordic last month, is a retro arcade vertical scrolling shoot'em up that sees you take command of fighter aces as you take on waves of Axis planes, panzers....oh and even a flying saucer as you attempt to foil the occult plans of the Luftwaffe. Previously in 2015, the console version of Aces of the Luftwaffe was shot down in flames due to it's terribly received port from mobile.  Available now on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. Can Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron do better? Gameplay Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron begins immediately and you are introduced to 4 fighter pilots, namely; Steve Davis, John King, Melissa Monroe and Mark Taylor.  The 4 pilots all fly in a squad formation with ...
