The latest LEGO Ideas set has been revealed, and it’s none other then the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine set. With a classic retro-inspired vintage style this buildable vending machine is a conversation-starting display piece. The set was submitted by Belgium-based Fan Designer, Rob Vangansewinkel, as part of the LEGO Ideas programme.
Talking about his design, Rob said, “As a kid, I had a real vending machine at home and loved it – so the idea of creating a working LEGO brick version that dispenses minifigures just clicked. I started with a digital version of the model and posted it on LEGO Ideas. But I wasn’t sure if the dispensing mechanism would really work, so I spent about two months testing and refining the design with actual LEGO bricks. I even took apart my old vending machine to understand the mechanics and make it work, and I’m so proud of the final product”.
Anyone Got Any Change?
Now what would a LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine set be if it were not functional?! Not a vending machine if you ask me! So it’s good job this set has the clever LEGO building techniques we all know and love to make it just that.
Simply insert the included LEGO coin, turn the handle, and release one of 16 colourful capsules. Each of the capsules contains minifigure parts ready for you to build. With themes such as Castle, Paradisa, Fabuland, as well as Classic Space explorers the nostalgia doesn’t end with the look of the machine though, it extends to these minifigures too! There is even a nice little easter egg of one of the minifigures being of Rob Vangansewinkel, the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer!

Whilst we do have to wait until 4th June for the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine to hit the shelves, there is some good news. If you’re a LEGO insider you can get your hands on it in during early access from 1st-3rd June on the LEGO website. Which may only be a couple of days, but when you can get hands on with LEGO sooner why wait?
